This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous studies have documented the importance of diastolic dysfunction in heart disease. Now, providing cardiologists with the most current information available on the subject, the editors have pulled together contributions from an impressive array of top researchers and compiled them into one comprehensive, carefully edited source, Diastolic Relaxation of the Heart, Second Edition: The Biology of Diastole in Health and Disease. This brand new Second Edition, based on a recent meeting, includes such topics as: molecular biology of relaxation; consequences of altered gene expression; impaired relaxation in experimental models (ischemia and hypoxia, and hypertrophy and failure); diastolic dysfunction in the diseased human heart. Diastolic Relaxation of the Heart, Second Edition: The Biology of Diastole in Health and Disease, the successor to the editors' bestselling work on the same subject, published in 1987 - belongs on the shelf of every practising cardiologist. It will also be an invaluable addition to the library of scientists researching the effects of diastole on heart function.

Book Regulation of Cardiac Contractility

Download or read book Regulation of Cardiac Contractility written by R. John Solaro and published by Biota Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contractility describes the relative ability of the heart to eject a stroke volume (SV) at a given prevailing afterload (arterial pressure) and preload (end-diastolic volume; EDV). Various measures of contractility are related to the fraction as the SV/EDV or the ejection fraction, and the dynamics of ejection as determined from maximum pressure rise in the ventricles or arteries or from aortic flow velocities determined by echocardiography. At the cellular level, the ultimate determinant of contractility is the relative tension generation and shortening capability of the molecular motors (myosin cross-bridges) of the sarcomeres as determined by the rates and extent of Ca activation, the turnover kinetics of the cross-bridges, and the relative Ca responsiveness of the sarcomeres. Engagement of the regulatory signaling cascades controlling contractility occurs with occupancy and signal transduction by receptors for neurohumors of the autonomic nervous system as well as growth and stress signaling pathways. Contractility is also determined by the prevailing conditions of pH, temperature, and redox state. Short-term control of contractility is fully expressed during exercise. In long-term responses to stresses on the heart, contractility is modified by cellular remodeling and altered signaling that may compensate for a time but which ultimately may fail, leading to disorders.

Book Cardiac Imaging in Clinical Practice

Download or read book Cardiac Imaging in Clinical Practice written by Dmitriy Kireyev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a concise guide to echocardiography, SPECT, CT and MRI, including both the basics of cardiac imaging as well as tables of normal/abnormal values and guidelines. With advances in technology, cardiac CT and MRI are becoming more popular but are often limited to larger medical centers. By including the basics of these modalities, this book provides a comprehensive guide for a wide range of medical professionals. As physicians outside of cardiology often do not have sufficient exposure to nuclear stress tests, this book contains SPECT and stress test protocols in order to facilitate decision-making when ordering tests and interpreting results. Cardiac Imaging in Clinical Practice is a quick reference guide and will be useful at multiple levels of training, enabling the book to be used as a basic and advanced reference source. As such, it is appropriate for students, residents, fellows and staff attendings who want a practical and handy reference to the diagnostic options open to them.
