Book excerpt: Suyama had a plan: join the police, work her way up the ranks until she worked alongside Morita Kurematsu, and then make the detective hers. What her plan hadn’t included: was falling for Ieyasu Tonagawa, a man she’d envied since the age of eighteen because Morita shared his bed at night and not hers… a man she’d hated from the moment a judges gavel had seen her father incarcerated for a crime Tonagawa had committed. But plans had a way of changing, except her half-a-decade-old grudge shouldn’t have been so easily cast aside. But nothing could have prepared her for the betrayal that awaited her in Hokkaido by Hanyuu, the man who’d long supported her desire for vengeance against Tonagawa. Trapped in a nightmare of her own making, one phone call could see that all change. One call that would see her plans deviate from their intended course. There’d be no more running. Not from her past or the uncertain future that lay before her. And whether that future included both Tonagawa and Morita… that was up to the fates to decide. Deviation is the second book in the Nagoya Crimes Trilogy. It is a 53k Dark MMF Yakuza Romance that ends with a cliffhanger.

Book The Financing of Ideas and the Great Deviation

Download or read book The Financing of Ideas and the Great Deviation written by Daniel Garcia-Macia and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did the Great Recession lead to such a slow recovery? I build a model where heterogeneous firms invest in physical and intangible capital, and can default on their debt. In case of default, intangible assets are harder to seize by creditors. Hence, intangible capital faces higher financing costs. This differential is exacerbated in a financial crisis, when default is more likely and aggregate risk bears a higher premium. The resulting fall in intangible investment amplifies the crisis, and gradual intangible spillovers to other firms contribute to its persistence. Using panel data on Spanish manufacturing firms, I estimate the model matching firm-level moments regarding intangibles and financing. The model captures the extent and components of the Great Recession in Spanish manufacturing, whereas a standard model without endogenous intangible investment would miss more than half of the GDP fall. A policy of transfers conditional on firm age could speed up the recovery, as young firms tend to be more financially constrained, particularly regarding intangible investment. Conditioning transfers on firm size or subsidizing credit (as in current E.U. policy) appears to be less effective.

Book Large Deviations for Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Large Deviations for Stochastic Processes written by Jin Feng and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the results on large deviations for a class of stochastic processes. Following an introduction and overview, the material is presented in three parts. Part 1 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for exponential tightness that are analogous to conditions for tightness in the theory of weak convergence. Part 2 focuses on Markov processes in metric spaces. For a sequence of such processes, convergence of Fleming's logarithmically transformed nonlinear semigroups is shown to imply the large deviation principle in a manner analogous to the use of convergence of linear semigroups in weak convergence. Viscosity solution methods provide applicable conditions for the necessary convergence. Part 3 discusses methods for verifying the comparison principle for viscosity solutions and applies the general theory to obtain a variety of new and known results on large deviations for Markov processes. In examples concerning infinite dimensional state spaces, new comparison principles are derived for a class of Hamilton-Jacobi equations in Hilbert spaces and in spaces of probability measures.

  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 082182757X
  • Pages : 298 pages

Download or read book Large Deviations written by Jean-Dominique Deuschel and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second printing of the book first published in 1988. The first four chapters of the volume are based on lectures given by Stroock at MIT in 1987. They form an introduction to the basic ideas of the theory of large deviations and make a suitable package on which to base a semester-length course for advanced graduate students with a strong background in analysis and some probability theory. A large selection of exercises presents important material and many applications. The last two chapters present various non-uniform results (Chapter 5) and outline the analytic approach that allows one to test and compare techniques used in previous chapters (Chapter 6).

Book Sensory Evaluation of Food Principles and Practices

Download or read book Sensory Evaluation of Food Principles and Practices written by Harry T. Lawless and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-08-31 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is designed as a text for undergraduate and graduate courses in sensory evaluation and as a reference for industrial practitioners. It covers all the basic techniques of sensory testing, from simple discrimination tests to home use placements for consumers. It provides a practical guide to how tests are conducted and, for the reader who wishes a deeper understanding, provides the fundamental psychological and statistical theories that form the basis and rationale for sensory test design. Statistics used in sensory evaluation are demonstrated as integrated applications in the context of appropriate sensory methods and are also presented as a stand-alone material in appendixes. Statistical applications are tailored to common and relevance are obvious, and space is not wasted on designs or analyses that are not suitable for data collection from human observers. The text presents divergent philosophies in a balanced manner. Chapters are constructed so that beginning students who want only practical aspects of conducting sensory tests will find clear instructions on how tests should be conducted. Advanced students and practitioners will profit from the detailed section on rationale and sensory evaluation issues. "It covers the entire spectrum of sensory analysis. I have read many books on this intriguing subject, but this is the Rolls-Royce." a?? Aubrey Parsons, governing council member, International Union for Food Science and Technology
