Download or read book The Importance of Listening to Children and Adolescents written by Silvana Calaprice and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume highlights the importance of teaching adults to listen to children and adolescents, illustrating the principles and contexts that define young people’s tangible and intangible rights and ideals. It reflects on the difficulties that impede the implementation of children and adolescents’ right to be listened to, in line with guidelines linked to national and international policies regarding children and adolescents. The book provides examples of how educational research can be used as a resource for the development of educational processes and of educational systems that put listening and participation at the heart of educational culture, as instruments of intervention and a possible component of social transformation.

Download or read book Marginality and Modernity written by Mauro Giardiello and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the major stages in the evolution of the sociological concept of marginality, highlighting in particular the contribution made by Gino Germani. Its purpose is to analyse, starting with the sociological theory of the early 1960s, the progressive maturation of the scientific status of the concept of marginality, and to test the theoretical premise that gave rise to Germani's theory of marginality. The author begins by examining the contribution of the Chicago School. He explores the complex relationship between the theory of marginality and modernization by analysing North American theses and the criticisms mainly generated in Latin America. The goal is to reconstruct Germani's theoretical model of marginality, addressing its application to contemporary social and economic conditions.Giardiello's analysis is intertwined with two themes that are central to Germani's thought about marginality. The first concerns the origin of the concept of social exclusion within sociological thought. The second shows how marginality is clearly a phenomenology connected to the contradictions of modernity. Germani's paradigm of marginality enables the social scientist to resolve the contradictions between the analytical perspectives that deal with marginality in an objective way and the one that observes it subjectively.

Download or read book Racial Criminalization of Migrants in the 21st Century written by Salvatore Palidda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last two decades in the West, there has been a significant increase in the arrest, imprisonment and detention of migrants. The racial criminalization and victimization of migrants and Roma people has led judicial authorities, local governments, the police, mass media and the general population to perceive migrants and 'gypsies' as responsible for a wide range of offences. Taking into consideration the political and cultural conditions that affect and interconnect societies of emigration and immigration, the contributors examine and compare a range of cases in Europe and the United States. The contributions demonstrate how the persecution of the 'current enemy' is the 'total political fact' of the 21st century in that it ensures consensus and business, or what might be termed the 'crime deal' of today. This provocative book has international appeal and will be a valuable resource for academics, researchers and policymakers with an interest in migration and social and ethnic control.

Download or read book Legal Responses to Football Hooliganism in Europe written by Anastassia Tsoukala and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-21 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a number of perspectives on how different European states have responded to the phenomenon of football crowd disorder and violence, or “hooliganism”. It applies a comparative legal approach, with a particular focus on civil and human rights, to analyze domestic legislation, policing and judicial responses to the problem of “football hooliganism” in Europe. Academics and legal professionals from eight different European countries introduce and analyze the different approaches and draw together common themes and problems from their various jurisdictions. They offer insights into the interactions between (domestic) politicians, law enforcers and sports authorities. The book is important reading for scholars and practitioners in the fields of law, sports law, sociology and criminology, and for all those concerned with questions of law enforcement and human rights. While it perfectly fits the curriculum for postgraduate studies in the fields mentioned, it is also highly recommended as secondary reading for undergraduate students. Dr. Anastassia Tsoukala is tenured Associate Professor at the University of Paris XI, France. Dr. Geoff Pearson is Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law at the University of Manchester’s Law School, Manchester, United Kingdom. Dr. Peter Coenen was Assistant Professor of Law at Maastricht University in the Netherlands.
Download or read book La devianza minorile forme di controllo e rapporto educativo dei servizi sociali con i minori written by Domenica Loiacono and published by Passerino Editore. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
