Book COMMENT DIEU VOIT LE MONDE

Download or read book COMMENT DIEU VOIT LE MONDE written by Bertin Nana and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-08-08 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Among the contributors are: R. Bernasconi, J. Colette, J.F. Courtine, L. Dupré, Kl. Düsing, J. Greisch, J. Kockelmans, P.-J. Labarrière and G. Jarczyk, E. Levinas, Al. Lingis, J.-L. Marion, O. C'est dans ce cadre qu'ont été créés en 2002 à l'Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne des séminaires de recherche sur la philosophie organique whiteheadienne. Book Barbarism and Religion Volume 1 The Enlightenments of Edward Gibbon 1737 1764

Download or read book Barbarism and Religion Volume 1 The Enlightenments of Edward Gibbon 1737 1764 written by J. G. A. Pocock and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-10-07 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Barbarism and Religion' - Edward Gibbon's own phrase - is the title of an acclaimed sequence of works by John Pocock designed to situate Gibbon, and his Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, in a series of contexts in the history of eighteenth-century Europe. This is a major intervention from one of the world's leading historians of ideas, challenging the notion of any one 'Enlightenment' and positing instead a plurality of enlightenments, of which the English was one. In this first volume, The Enlightenments of Edward Gibbon, John Pocock follows Gibbon through his youthful exile in Switzerland and his criticisms of the Encyclopédie, and traces the growth of his historical interests down to the conception of the Decline and Fall itself.

Book Ces Forces Obscures de L me

Download or read book Ces Forces Obscures de L me written by Christine Margerrison and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2008 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the first decade of a new century, this collection of bilingual essays examines Camus's continuing popularity for a new generation of readers. In crucial respects, the world Camus knew has changed beyond all recognition: decolonization, the fall of the Iron Curtain, a new era of globalization and the rise of new forms of terrorism have all provoked a reconsideration of Camus's writings. If the Absurd once struck a particular chord, Meursault is as likely now to be seen as a colonial figure who expresses the alienation of the settler from the land of his birth. Yet this increasing orthodoxy must also take account of the reasons why a new community of Algerian readers have embraced Camus. Equally, once isolated because of his anti-Communist stance, Camus has been taken up by disaffected members of the Left, convinced that new forms of totalitarianism are abroad in the world. This volume, which ranges from interpretations of Camus's literary works, his journalism and his political writings, will be of interest to all those seeking to re-evaluate Camus's work in the light of ethical and political issues that are of continuing relevance today."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Writing History in the Third Republic

Download or read book Writing History in the Third Republic written by Isabel Noronha-DiVanna and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02-19 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing History in the Third Republic offers new insight to the historiographical output of French historians between 1860 and 1914, a period often referred to as of positivistic historians or the école méthodique. Asserting their independence from Germanic influence by emphasising the French element in their work, historians in the period described their approach as methodical and positivistic and maintained that this was a distinctively French way of studying history. A heightened concern with sources, with facts as basis for all true knowledge, and with truth itself were unifying elements of the historiography of those historians now called école méthodique. The école represented the most sophisticated theoretical considerations about history and a method for historical studies in French academia in the late nineteenth century. The purpose of this book is to reassess whether or not this school is legitimately to be seen as having emerged in the Third Republic in response to political developments of nineteenth-century France, or if the so-called méthodiques share more in terms of philosophy of history and methodology than previously emphasized by scholars. This book contributes to the debate surrounding the role of history and its method, offering a counter-argument to postmodernist scholars while reassessing the contribution of twentieth-century theorists of history to the history of historiography.

Book Deity and Domination

  • Author : David Nicholls
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2003-09-02
  • ISBN : 1134982348
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Deity and Domination written by David Nicholls and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `Religion and politics are necessarily related', declared Ronald Reagan, while addressing an ecumenical prayer breakfast of 17,000 people in Dallas. But how are they connected? Many popular images of God - King, Lord, and Judge - are essentially political, while concepts of might, majesty, dominion, and power are used of both God and the state. This ambitious and original work explores the relations between these images and their political context through the analogy between divine and civil government, and considers what images of God may legitimately be employed by Christians in the twentieth century. David Nicholls suggests that religious conceptions have often affected political thinking - theological rhetoric, child of political experience, may also be mother of political change. Drawing upon politics, theology, history, sociology, anthropology, and literary criticism, this important new book will be essential reading for all concerned with the relation between Christianity and politics.
