Book Development of Nonlinear Model for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor CSTR

Download or read book Development of Nonlinear Model for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor CSTR written by Mohamad Ikhwan Zakaria and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) finds wide application in the chemical industry from pilot plant to full-scale production operation. CSTRs generally present operational problems due to complex open-loop nonlinear behavior in the form of input/output multiplicities and ignition/extinction phenomena. A major limitation of linear model is that plant behavior is described by linear dynamic model. As a result, linear model is inadequate for highly nonlinear process and moderately nonlinear process which have large operating regimes. This shortcoming coupled with increasingly stringent demands on throughput and product quality has spurred the development of nonlinear model .The objective of this research are development mathematical model for CSTR process based on first principal, validation of mathematical model through experimentation and nonlinear model identification of a CSTR process. The mathematical model based on first principles is developed from sodium hydroxide, ethyl acetate, and sodium acetate and ethanol mass balance. Then, the model equation is solving in MATLAB environment by doing algorithm for this process. The program for CSTR system is created and this program known as nonlinear fundamental model. The result from the MATLAB simulation program is compared with experimental result to validate the fundamental model. As a conclusion, the suitable nonlinear model for CSTR system has been developed and analysis shown the compatibility of the model with experimental result.

Book Nonlinear Adaptive Control for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor

Download or read book Nonlinear Adaptive Control for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor written by Patcharang Sirichaovalert and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is a type of reactors used commonly in industrial processing. It has inherently nonlinear and complex dynamic behavior and therefore it is difficult to handle with a linear controller. In this research, a nonlinear adaptive control approach is developed based on generic model control (GMC) with online adaptation of its tuning parameters. An extended Kalman filter has been incorporated to the control approach in order to determine unknown/uncertain parameters. The performance of the designed controller has been evaluated in two cases: disturbance changes and plant/model mismatches. The simulation results have shown that the nonlinear adaptive control provides good control performance in both cases. Moreover, this controller is found to be better than the GMC and conventional Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller in all cases.

Download or read book Development of Nonlinear Model for Plug Flow Reactor Process written by Ahmad Akmal Wahamid and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plug Flow Reactor are wildly use in chemical industries. The advantages of PFR reactor is Plug flow reactors have a high volumetric unit conversion and run for long periods of time without maintenance. The control of Plug Flow Reactor process a problem frequently encountered in the chemical industries. Controlling Plug Flow Reactor in chemical industries is very challenging because of the time varying and nonlinear characteristics of the Plug Flow Reactor processes. Nonlinear model of Plug flow reactor (PFR) process model is used to estimate the key unit operation variables when using a continuous tubular reactor to reach a specified output. In this paper gives an overview in selecting the best model in developing a nonlinear model for plug flow reactor. The steps in developing nonlinear model for plug flow reactor are developing of mathematical model in first principal including simulate under steady state and unsteady state condition, validation the mathematical model through an experimental. This model used reaction of ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide to perform saponification for simulating the behavior of a simple Plug Flow Reactor process in a time. The mathematical model based on first principles is developed then, the model equation is solving in MATLAB environment by doing algorithm for this process. The program for Plug Flow Reactor system is created and this program known as nonlinear fundamental model. Two models were developed in this step in for comparison. The result from the MATLAB simulation program is compared with experimental results which have been selected from two difference method to validate the fundamental model. The result showed that the different between the model and experiment result is around 1-37%. As conclusion, the suitable nonlinear model for PFR system has been developed and analyses have been carried out to check the compatibility of the model.

Book Chemical Engineering Dynamics

Download or read book Chemical Engineering Dynamics written by John Ingham and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-08 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the modelling of dynamic chemical engineering processes is presented in a highly understandable way using the unique combination of simplified fundamental theory and direct hands-on computer simulation. The mathematics is kept to a minimum, and yet the nearly 100 examples supplied on www.wiley-vch.de illustrate almost every aspect of chemical engineering science. Each example is described in detail, including the model equations. They are written in the modern user-friendly simulation language Berkeley Madonna, which can be run on both Windows PC and Power-Macintosh computers. Madonna solves models comprising many ordinary differential equations using very simple programming, including arrays. It is so powerful that the model parameters may be defined as "sliders", which allow the effect of their change on the model behavior to be seen almost immediately. Data may be included for curve fitting, and sensitivity or multiple runs may be performed. The results can be seen simultaneously on multiple-graph windows or by using overlays. The resultant learning effect of this is tremendous. The examples can be varied to fit any real situation, and the suggested exercises provide practical guidance. The extensive experience of the authors, both in university teaching and international courses, is reflected in this well-balanced presentation, which is suitable for the teacher, the student, the chemist or the engineer. This book provides a greater understanding of the formulation and use of mass and energy balances for chemical engineering, in a most stimulating manner. This book is a third edition, which also includes biological, environmental and food process examples.

Book Extremal Optimization

Download or read book Extremal Optimization written by Yong-Zai Lu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extremal Optimization: Fundamentals, Algorithms, and Applications introduces state-of-the-art extremal optimization (EO) and modified EO (MEO) solutions from fundamentals, methodologies, and algorithms to applications based on numerous classic publications and the authors’ recent original research results. It promotes the movement of EO from academic study to practical applications. The book covers four aspects, beginning with a general review of real-world optimization problems and popular solutions with a focus on computational complexity, such as "NP-hard" and the "phase transitions" occurring on the search landscape. Next, it introduces computational extremal dynamics and its applications in EO from principles, mechanisms, and algorithms to the experiments on some benchmark problems such as TSP, spin glass, Max-SAT (maximum satisfiability), and graph partition. It then presents studies on the fundamental features of search dynamics and mechanisms in EO with a focus on self-organized optimization, evolutionary probability distribution, and structure features (e.g., backbones), which are based on the authors’ recent research results. Finally, it discusses applications of EO and MEO in multiobjective optimization, systems modeling, intelligent control, and production scheduling. The authors present the advanced features of EO in solving NP-hard problems through problem formulation, algorithms, and simulation studies on popular benchmarks and industrial applications. They also focus on the development of MEO and its applications. This book can be used as a reference for graduate students, research developers, and practical engineers who work on developing optimization solutions for those complex systems with hardness that cannot be solved with mathematical optimization or other computational intelligence, such as evolutionary computations.
