Book Thermo and Fluid dynamic Processes in Diesel Engines

Download or read book Thermo and Fluid dynamic Processes in Diesel Engines written by James H.W. Whitelaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-01-11 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes versions of papers selected from those presented at the THIESEL 2000 Conference on Thermofluidynamic Processes in Diesel Engines, held at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, during the period of September th th 13 to 15 , 2000. The papers are grouped into seven thematic areas: State of the Art and Prospective, Fuels for Diesel Engines, Injection System and Spray Formation, Combustion and Pollutant Formation, Modelling, Experimental Techniques, and Air Management. These areas cover most of the technologies and research strategies that may allow Light Duty and Heavy Duty Diesel engines to comply with current and forthcoming emission standards, while maintaining or improving fuel consumption. The main objectives of the conference were to bring together ideas and experience from Industry and Universities to facilitate interchange of information and to promote discussion of future research and development needs. The technical papers emphasised the use diagnostic and simulation techniques and their relationship to engineering practice and the advancement of the Diesel engine. We hope that this approach, which proved to be successful at the Conference, is reflected in this volume. We thank all those who contributed to the success of the Conference, and particularly the members of the Advisory Committee who assessed abstracts and chaired many of the technical sessions. Weare also grateful to participants who presented their work or contributed to the many discussions. Finally, the Conference benefitted from financial support from the organisations listed below and we are glad to have this opportunity to record our gratitude.

Book Fuel Injection Systems 2003

Download or read book Fuel Injection Systems 2003 written by PEP (Professional Engineering Publishers) and published by John Wiley and Sons. This book was released on 2003-04-29 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel Injection Systems addresses key issues in fuel delivery and associated technologies which are evolving faster than ever. The rapid technological change has reduced product life cycles resulting in rapid evolution of design and development methods to enable timely delivery of increasingly complex technology. This is vital as the demands on engines are increasingly stringent, especially in the field of emissions, new fuel injection systems are being developed to meet these challenges, not only in passenger cars but also for heavy duty as well as large engine applications. This volume brings together international contributions from the leading experts in industry and the latest research from academia to provide a comprehensive update to all those working in design, development, and manufacturing of fuel injection systems. Contents include: Emission reduction with advanced two-actuator EUI for heavy-duty diesel engines Investigation of a two valve electronically controlled unit injector on a Euro IV heavy duty diesel engine using design of experiment methods Characterization of in-cylinder fuel distribution from an air-assisted fuel injection system using advanced laser diagnostics High contact stress applications of a silicon nitride in modern diesel engines The use of the HLMI (hydraulic leak measurement unit) Komatsu STA 6DI40 water emulsified fuel engine Timely control of diesel combustion using water injection

Book Engine Combustion

Download or read book Engine Combustion written by David R Rogers and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engine combustion pressure analysis is a fundamental measurement technique applied universally in the research and development of reciprocating combustion engines. As combustion pressure measurement systems have become almost standard equipment in engine test environments, technicians and engineers need to have a solid understanding of this technique and the associated equipment. This book provides practical information on measuring, analyzing, and qualifying combustion data, as well as details on hardware and software requirements and system components. Describing the principles of a successful combustion measurement process, the book will enable technicians and engineers to efficiently generate the required data to complete their development tasks. Readers will learn: The features and functions of equipment Best practices for successful measurements How to recognize and diagnose problems Engine Combustion: Pressure Measurement and Analysisis a comprehensive handbook for technicians and engineers involved in engine testing and development, and a valuable reference for scientists and students who wish to understand combustion measurement processes and techniques.

Book excerpt: This book tells the story of a family-run company that can be regarded as a classic example of a medium-sized "hidden champion". The use of Mahr calipers in workshops and factories had already begun as early as 150 years ago during Germany's industrial expansion. Göttingen's Mahr corporate group - with locations on several continents - had long been exporting high-precision measuring devices all over the world. The company's products themselves are less conspicuous, yet, thanks to their excellent performance, impact the industry's optimization processes and thus the everyday life of the people. As a stellar example, Mahr stands for precise measurement in the millimeter to nanometer range, from the workbench to the clean room, from the courageous founder to the innovative high-tech enterprise. It all began with Carl Mahr's business that first came onto the scene in 1861. He supplied precision mechanics, forestry offices, factories and railway companies with measuring devices. His son, Oscar Mahr, then opened the door to interchangeable production with the aid of go/no go gauges that enabled mass production as we know it today - also advanced by the armaments industry, as is carefully traced in this book. Members of the Mahr family led the company through the post-war period and economic miracles, through busts and booms, into the present, making up what is now the fifth generation. This portrayal, rich in illustrations, is based on extensive and sound research. Here, 150 years of engineering and economic history are interwoven with a profound and exciting portrait of entrepreneurial and inventive spirit.
