Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 34 (thesis year 1989) a total of 13,377 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 184 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 34 reports theses submitted in 1989, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book excerpt: The Electronic Systems Engineering Department of the Computing Division at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has developed a data acquisition system flexible and powerful enough to meet the needs of a variety of high energy physics applications. The system described in this paper is called CAPTAN (Compact And Programmable daTa Acquisition Node) and its architecture and capabilities are presented in detail here. The three most important characteristics of this system are flexibility, versatility and scalability. These three main features are supported by key architectural features; a vertical bus that permits the user to stack multiple boards, a gigabit Ethernet link that permits high speed communications to the system and the core group of boards that provide specific capabilities for the system. In this paper, we describe the system architecture, give an overview of its capabilities and point out possible applications.

Book Study and Implementation of Data Acquisition Tools in an Industrial Automation System

Download or read book Study and Implementation of Data Acquisition Tools in an Industrial Automation System written by Anshul Saxena and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As global price competition intensifies and complexity of the product increases, machine processes push the physical and operational limits of the system manufacturers. The most important result is increasingly narrow tolerances for the parameters controlling the machine process. In the present study the various parameters of a deposition machine such as flow rate, gas pressures, RF voltage etc. are controlled and regulated with narrow tolerances using a software tool and a high resolution data acquisition board (DAQ). A comparative study is made of two of the most widely-used data acquisition software tools in the industry, Matlab and LabView. A qualitative analysis is performed, and it is found that LabView is better suited towards the case in point, due to its higher flexibility, better driver support and wide-ranging I/O capabilities. To accomplish the objectives a user interface and a block diagram for each parameter is developed in LabView using NI-DAQmx programming. DAQ board is used to make the analog interface between the instruments and the personal computer. The acquired data can be seen in real time in LabView for instant calibration. Simulations for controlling and regulating all the parameters using LabView were performed to account for any discrepancies in the automation of the machine. Using TDMS File Viewer and Microsoft Excel, a database was created to load the real time data for export into graphs for later comparison. Modular development style also allows future improvements and advancements as one can easily remove or substitute industry systems in LabView. It was found that automation of an industrial machine with sophisticated data acquisition and control process can be accomplished using low cost Personal Computer (PC). Also, the system integration and software development are greatly simplified, and the total cost can be reduced. In addition, interfacing the software with the database for storage, recall of all the machine configuration parameters, and measurement results helps the user to search and sort the resulting database files in highly flexible and customizable data management architecture. The motivation of the study came from the need to develop an automated machine which can be controlled, regulated and able to store the data for later purposes. Display of real time data from the parameters also helps user to visualize the data flow of each parameter separately.

Book High Speed Data Acquisition System

Download or read book High Speed Data Acquisition System written by Mack Taylor Elliott and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the expansion and modification of an existing data acquisition system to effect extensive improvements in speed and flexibility. A microprocessor, flexible disk drive, analog to digital converter, direct memory access module, and high-speed line printer were integrated and interfaced to an IBM 360 digital computer with a high-speed data transmission line. The resultant system provided the capability of digitizing up to sixteen analog inputs simultaneously at rates in excess of 45,000 samples per second. The experimental data could be transmitted expeditiously to the IBM 360 computer for efficient manipulation. Additional benefits gained from the system were its capabilities as a remote terminal for the IBM 360 and a typewriter-quality word processor. The data acquisition and reduction system was qualified for functional performance and speed through a series of test exercises. The word processor was demonstrated in the production of this document. (Author).

Book Analog and Digital Hardware Development for a Microcomputer Controlled Data Acquisition System for Acoustical Imaging

Download or read book Analog and Digital Hardware Development for a Microcomputer Controlled Data Acquisition System for Acoustical Imaging written by Reid Owen Carlock and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the design and testing of a microcomputer controlled data acquisition system for an acoustical imaging system. Analog sinusoidal signals are processed through a 256 channel analog multiplexer to high speed phase and amplitude detection channels. Analog to digital conversion is accomplished with a microputer peripheral module. Data storage then follows in a 64k byte peripheral memory. Interface with a cassette tape recording system is accomplished for data transferral. (Author).
