Book Models Methods for Project Selection

Download or read book Models Methods for Project Selection written by Samuel B. Graves and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models & Methods for Project Selection systematically examines in this book treatment the latest work in the field of project selection modeling. The models presented are drawn from mathematical programming, decision theory, and finance. These models are examined in two categorical streams: the management science stream and the financial model stream. The book describes the assumptions and limitations of each model and provides appropriate solution methodologies. Its organization follows three main themes: *Criteria for Choice: Chapters 1-3 investigate the effect of the choice of optimization criteria on the results of the portfolio optimization problem. *Risk and Uncertainty: Chapters 4-7 deal with uncertainty in the project selection problem. *Non-Linearity and Interdependence: These chapters deal with problems of non-linearity and interdependence as they arise in the project selection problem. Chapters 8, 9 and 10 present solution methodologies, which can be used to solve these most general project selection models.

Book Handbook on Project Management and Scheduling Vol 2

Download or read book Handbook on Project Management and Scheduling Vol 2 written by Christoph Schwindt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-13 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increasing importance of product differentiation and collapsing product life cycles, a growing number of value-adding activities in the industry and service sector are organized in projects. Projects come in many forms, often taking considerable time and consuming a large amount of resources. The management and scheduling of projects represents a challenging task and project performance may have a considerable impact on an organization's competitiveness. This handbook presents state-of-the-art approaches to project management and scheduling. More than sixty contributions written by leading experts in the field provide an authoritative survey of recent developments. The book serves as a comprehensive reference, both, for researchers and project management professionals. The handbook consists of two volumes. Volume 1 is devoted to single-modal and multi-modal project scheduling. Volume 2 presents multi-project problems, project scheduling under uncertainty and vagueness, managerial approaches and a separate part on applications, case studies and information systems.

Book Transdisciplinary Engineering Crossing Boundaries

Download or read book Transdisciplinary Engineering Crossing Boundaries written by M. Borsato and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 1152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Concurrent Engineering (CE) approach was developed in the 1980s, based on the concept that different phases of a product life cycle should be conducted concurrently and initiated as early as possible within the Product Creation Process (PCP). CE concepts have matured and become the foundation of many new ideas, methodologies, initiatives, approaches and tools. This book contains the proceedings from the 23rd ISPE Inc. International Conference on Transdisciplinary (formerly: Concurrent) Engineering, held in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, in October 2016. The conference, entitled 'Transdisciplinary Engineering: Crossing Boundaries', provides an important forum for international scientific exchange on Concurrent Engineering and collaborative enterprises, and attracts the participation of researchers, industry experts and students, as well as government representatives. The 108 peer reviewed papers and keynote speech included here, range from theoretical and conceptual to strongly pragmatic works, which are organized into 17 sections including: Concurrent Engineering and knowledge exchange; engineering for sustainability; multidisciplinary project management; collaborative design and engineering; optimization of engineering operations and data analytics; and multidisciplinary design optimization, among others. The book gives an overview of the latest research, advancements and applications in the field and will be of interest to researchers, design practitioners and educators.

Book Quantitative Management in R D

Download or read book Quantitative Management in R D written by C. J. Beattie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our aim in writing this book has been to present for R&D Managers at all levels the type of quantitative methods that have been developed in recent years for the more efficient management of R&D. Hence, we have sought to write for anyone connected with the control of R&D - from the Directors responsible for the R&D effort of a large organization to the scientist in charge of one or two individual projects. Many of the techniques which we describe have appeared in recent years in the technical journals, often in a largely theoretical form. Few, however, have been made generally available in the management literature, and it has been our intention to fill this need. In doing this, we have concentrated on the tactical aspects of R&D Management - for example, project evaluation and research programme selection. To set these in context, we have also sought briefly to show how the R&D programme stems from the objectives of an organization as regards overall research strategy. We have thus dealt with quantitative management techniques that have seen practical application in R&D laboratories, and have described a number of actual applications to illustrate the method of use in practice. For the sake of simplicity, we have referred to Appendices all detailed mathematics, and other material not essential to an understanding of the main theme. We trust that the reader will discover something of use in these pages.
