Book excerpt: The Pentagon is poised to begin development of a new generation of long range delivery systems. Such systems may be more dangerous than proposed improvements in nuclear warheads. At the same time, the gov¿t. is considering options for replacement of the intercontinental ballistic missiles that are the core of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. New delivery systems for nuclear weapons would involve many of the same technologies, from more maneuverable re-entry vehicles to improvements in guidance systems, that would be developed for long-range missiles carrying non-nuclear payloads. These technologies could provide the building blocks for new nuclear capabilities.

The following questions were used: What monitoring systems (MS) and other data sources provide info. on pesticide-related illnesses (PRI) that occur on farms? What are the strengths and weaknesses of these MS, and how comprehensive is the info. they provide in terms of kinds of health effects, pop¿n. subgroups, pesticides, and geographic coverage? Does the info. provided by these MS provide a basis for making reliable nat. est. of PRI that result from OEP on farms? Tables.

Book Surveillance Data from Swimming Pool Inspections

Download or read book Surveillance Data from Swimming Pool Inspections written by Mary Lou Lindgren and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swimming increases the potential for the spread of recreational water illnesses (RWIs) (e.g., cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis, and shigellosis). Local health programs inspect public and semipublic pools periodically to determine compliance with health regulations. During inspections, data pertaining to pool water chemistry, filtration and recirculation systems, and mgmt. and operations are collected. This report summarizes pool inspection data from databases at 6 sites across the U.S. collected during May 1-Sept. 1, 2002. The findings underscore the utility of these data for public-health decision making and the need for increased training and vigilance by pool operators to ensure high-quality swimming pool water for use by the public. Book Extracting Electron Densities in N Type Gaas from Raman Spectra Theory

Download or read book Extracting Electron Densities in N Type Gaas from Raman Spectra Theory written by Herbert S. Bennett and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents the theory for calculating Raman line shapes as functions of the Fermi energy and finite temperatures in zinc blende, n-type GaAs for donor densities between 10 to the 16th cm -3 and 10 to the 19th cm -3. Compared to other theories, this theory is unique in two respects: (1) the many-body effects are treated self-consistently; and (2) the theory is valid at room temperature for arbitrary values of the ratio R = (Q to the 2nd/alpha), where Q is the magnitude of the normalization wave vector and alpha is the normalized frequency used in the Raman measurements. These calculations solve the charge neutrality equation self-consistently for a two-band model of GaAs at 300 K that includes the effects of high carrier concentrations and dopant densities on the perturbed densities of states used to calculate the Fermi energy as a function of temperature.
