Download or read book Third Sector Organisations and Organising written by Wendy Earles and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades there has been considerable transformation of the organisational arrangements for public service provision and advocacy across most Western democracies, not least in Australia. Waves of ideologically driven reforms have reshaped organisations, ways of organising and systems, particularly those in the third sector. Each wave has produced specific synergies and contradictions that contribute to the need for further reshaping. As artefacts, local organisations, ways of organising and systems hold historic meaning that can guide practitioners as they seek to understand past change, transverse existing landscapes, question the utility and soundness of current meaning, and seek to create new landscapes that respond to different value-sets. The studies present here were undertaken by the authors over two decades in partnership with local practitioners to respond to their expressed need for new maps and compasses to understand and transverse the rapidly changing organisational landscapes in which they practice. The authors draw on practitioners' lived experiences of micro-change in particular sites to construct synthesised stories, develop organisational typologies, articulate principles and logics of organising, and construct paradigmatic maps.

Download or read book Welcome to Maple Hill written by Myra Poteet-Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-11-10 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mattie Smith, a woman in her early sixties, has—she feels—accomplished quite a lot in her lifetime. Like everyone else, some of her ventures have been of her own choosing, but most—not; her hectic life leaving her precious little time to do the things she loves most—reading novels, spending time with friends and family, being involved in choirs, and the music that’s so much a part of her life... one would be hard put to say which of these would be placed at the top of her list! Life has a way of changing directions when you least expect it, changing your direction and placing you on a course you would never have dreamed of taking. So it is with Mattie. After several turns in her life, Mattie makes a decision that will alter her whole life and everything that she is-—or was—well... still is. After a lifetime of working at a public job, caring for home and family, and reaching—finally, the retired, “grandmotherly” stage of her life, she finds herself in a most unexpected—to say the least—undertaking. A great change was made in the life of Mattie and her husband Walt, several years back, when they made the decision to purchase property in the eastern part of their state of North Carolina, where he spent the biggest part of the winter months, bear hunting. The idea was to have a place so that Mattie could be with Walt occasionally, rather than being left at home alone for such long lengths of time, as she had been doing for years. She never in her wildest dreams imagined becoming a part of the hunt. But that’s exactly what she did at Walt’s request—a request that he didn’t really think she would take him up on. WELCOME TO MAPLE HILL is an open invitation into the life—and all the adventures therein—of Mattie Smith. It is also an introductory book, for the many ongoing experiences yet to share in the life of this housewife-turned-bear hunter! Come along—up close—on some real hunts, as Mattie describes in detail, what she sees... what she thinks, as she trails along beside her beloved husband... the “true” bear hunter!
Download or read book Virtues and Virtue Education in Theory and Practice written by Catherine A. Darnell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-05 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtues and Virtue Education in Theory and Practice explores questions about the locality versus the universality of virtues from a number of theoretical and practical perspectives. Written by leading international scholars in the field, it considers the relevance of these debates for the practice of virtue and character education. This volume brings together experts from education, philosophy, and psychology to consider how different disciplines might learn from each other and how insights from theory and practice can be integrated. It shows that questions about virtue relativity or universality have not only theoretical significance but also important practical ramifications. The chapters explore different complexities of virtue ethics and different approaches to nurturing virtue and beyond, questioning how well virtues travel across geographical and cultural borders. By examining the philosophical literature and making links between theory and practice in an original way, the book offers scholarly research-informed suggestions for practice. It will be of great interest to researchers and academics and students in educational philosophy, character education, ethics, and psychology.

Download or read book This Slice of My Life written by Cleveland James Dorsey and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2021-11-07 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything God creates, is relevant. What God inspires, is relevant. We are God's creation, and He inspired the words in this book. God desires that we be freed from sin's bondage. God desires for us to be encouraged and motivated in our Christian walk. But sometimes sin gets in the way, and we begin to allow sin to distort our lens. Instead, allow God to search your heart. And once God disentombs a sinful thought or desire, don't sit on His revelation. Do something about it! We need to address the motivational issues behind our sin. We have to realize that a victorious walk comes about when we stop allowing sin to master over our lives. God wants us to confront what we've been through. Fight through the weaknesses we have. Attack the issues that caused us to jump ship. You may have wondered around in the darkness. You may have rambled in the wilderness for a season, but God's sovereignty outshines the darkness. Satan loves to remind us of our issues, in an attempt to discourage our journey. But God is not surprised by our weaknesses. Don't allow sin to define you. Don't allow your past to abort your destiny. James Cleveland Dorsey is the Executive Pastor of the digital media ministry The Church Ignited, a Christian Life/Leadership Strategist, the founder of Restore My Core Conferences, and an Author. As a medical professional for over a decade and a decorated USMC Veteran, James dedicates his life to following the example of Christ's servanthood (Mark 10:45), helping mankind find their strength and confidence through a Godly mindset, and equipping God's creation to apply their faith in a manner pleasing to God. James and his wife, Anouska, have been married for 28 years, have three adult children, and reside in North Alabama.
