Book Global and Regional Mercury Cycles Sources Fluxes and Mass Balances

Download or read book Global and Regional Mercury Cycles Sources Fluxes and Mass Balances written by W. Baeyens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential themes in the biochemical cycling of mercury are the relative importance of anthropogenic versus natural sources, transformation and migration processes at the local, regional and global scale, global emission inventories of different mercury sources (both point and diffuse) of both natural and anthropogenic origin. In this regard, Siberia, with its vast territory and variety of natural zones, is of special interest in the global mercury cycle and in terms of the influence of geographical zones on source and sink terms in regional budgets. Siberia contains large areas of mercuriferous belts; natural deposits that emit mercury into the atmosphere and water. Siberian gold has been mined with the use of mercury since the early 1800s. But there, too, huge forest zones and vast areas of tundra and wetland (bogs) can act as efficient sinks for atmospheric mercury. Audience: Environmental scientists, legislators, politicians and the interested citizen wishing to gain a clear picture of the biogeochemical cycling of mercury.

Book Comparison of Adsorbed Mercury Screening Method with Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry for Determination of Mercury in Soil

Download or read book Comparison of Adsorbed Mercury Screening Method with Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry for Determination of Mercury in Soil written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A field screening method for the determination of elemental mercury in environmental soil samples involves the thermal desorption of the mercury from the sample onto gold and then the thermal desorption from the gold to a gold-film mercury vapor analyzer. This field screening method contains a large number of conditions that could be optimized for the various types of soils encountered. In this study, the conditions were optimized for the determination of mercury in silty clay materials, and the results were comparable to the cold-vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometric method of determination. This paper discusses the benefits and disadvantages of employing the field screening method and provides the sequence of conditions that must be optimized to employ this method of determination on other soil types. Book Mercury Ultra Trace Analysis

Download or read book Mercury Ultra Trace Analysis written by Dr. Paul Gouda and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Paul H. Ramses Gouda, is a globally renowned chemist who authored several science books and papers. He has been credited with the foundation of several analytical laboratory procedures utilizing Atomic Absorption and Inductively Coupled Plasma for ultra trace analysis of As, Se, Sb &Hg. These Methods were officially adopted by EPL and by other agencies, and as routinely practiced in the scientific arena they were named after him. The author, who first attended medical school before specializing in analytical chemistry and pharmacological research, has acquired two doctorates. His contributions to the scientific community include a recent paper on the unique concept of the duplication and manipulation of neurological compounds to trigger a natural and optimum physiological response. Tour the authors books at and his book-signing sessions at www.goudabooks.com and his science project, scheduled symposiums & seminars at www.optimumgreen.com This book offers a complete coverage of mercury analysis methodology. An analytical laboratory reference, a chemist manual, and a university textbook. A must for every library.

Book Lead Mercury Cadmium and Arsenic in the Environment

Download or read book Lead Mercury Cadmium and Arsenic in the Environment written by Thomas C. Hutchinson and published by . This book was released on 1987-05-08 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers presented by noted researchers consider the occurrence, flux, compartmentalization, and residence times of four elements recognized as significant environmental pollutants. Examines data available on these pollutants and pinpoints areas in which further research is needed. The presence of these elements in all ecological environments--oceans, freshwater systems, soils, the atmosphere, etc.--and their regional occurrence around the globe are examined in detail, as are their sources and effects on plants, animals, and humans. Particular attention is paid to lead, which is the most prevalent pollutant and poses the greatest risk to human health, especially the health of children.

Book Speciation Studies in Soil Sediment and Environmental Samples

Download or read book Speciation Studies in Soil Sediment and Environmental Samples written by Sezgin Bakirdere and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments clearly indicate that speciation studies in biological and environmental matrices are much more important than the total element determination due to the tremendous difference in bioavailability and toxicity of various chemical forms of a particular element. Different separation-detection techniques and hyphenated systems—each with its own advantages and disadvantages with respect to precision, sensitivity and detection limit—have been developed for the identification and quantification of the species present in systems at ultra-trace levels. This book aims to evaluate the speciation analysis in depth and present a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art analytical approaches used for the speciation of elements in environmental samples.
