Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satisfaction at work is one of the most studied organizational variables and many studies show that it is extremely important for organizations. Closely related to work motivation and performance, satisfaction is an important factor for many attitudes such as absenteeism or intention to resign. The aims of the present study is to measure the degree of job satisfaction of public and private employees in Romania and to analyze the differences between the two sectors. In the present study participated a total of 120 full-time employees of various private enterprises and public organizations. The Job Satisfaction Survey (Spector, 1985) was used to collect data. The survey results indicate a moderate degree of work satisfaction of respondents across most analyzed dimensions of job satisfaction. Two of the analyzed dimensions, one intrinsic (nature of work) and one extrinsic (communication) registered a high score of job satisfaction in both sectors. Instead, the biggest differences are found on dimensions "supervision" and the "co-workers" (both extrinsic factors) private sector employees showing a higher degree of job satisfaction than those in the public sector. To enhance employee motivation, public-sector managers in Romania should improve their employees' extrinsic job satisfaction and help unsatisfied employees transfer to jobs they find more satisfying.

Book Factors Affecting Public Service Motivation

Download or read book Factors Affecting Public Service Motivation written by Samia Shaikh and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined public service motivation (PSM) in public sector and private sector organizations, and various factors that were found to influence PSM. Furthermore, we also analyzed the effect of PSM on employees' job satisfaction (JSA) for both sectors. The factors identified were rewards, working relations, career growth (CGA), Job Security (JSE) and workplace attributes (WPA). Data was collected from close ended likert scale type questionnaire. A sample of 220 professionals from various fields of private sector and 200 government sector employees were used to test a partial mediation model using structural equation modeling. Independent Samples T-test was done to compare the means of variables in public and sectors. Findings showed that there was no significant difference among rewards, PSM, JSE and working relations of public and private sector employees. However, there was a significant difference between JSA, WPA and CGA. The findings also suggested that Rewards (whether intrinsic or extrinsic) and Workplace attributes had no significant impact on the job satisfaction and public service motivation of public and private sector employees, whereas working relations, career growth opportunities and job security play a vital role in public service motivation and job satisfaction level of employees as these have significant impact to job satisfaction, with PSM as a mediating factor. These results have implications for managers who are interested in improving Human Resource Practices in Public Sector Organizations and private sector organizations. As investments in HPHRPs are positively associated with PSM and desirable employee outcomes, managers should endeavor to ensure that sufficient resources are allocated to implement HR practices.

Book Happiness and Economics

Download or read book Happiness and Economics written by Bruno S. Frey and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-16 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curiously, economists, whose discipline has much to do with human well-being, have shied away from factoring the study of happiness into their work. Happiness, they might say, is an ''unscientific'' concept. This is the first book to establish empirically the link between happiness and economics--and between happiness and democracy. Two respected economists, Bruno S. Frey and Alois Stutzer, integrate insights and findings from psychology, where attempts to measure quality of life are well-documented, as well as from sociology and political science. They demonstrate how micro- and macro-economic conditions in the form of income, unemployment, and inflation affect happiness. The research is centered on Switzerland, whose varying degrees of direct democracy from one canton to another, all within a single economy, allow for political effects to be isolated from economic effects. Not surprisingly, the authors confirm that unemployment and inflation nurture unhappiness. Their most striking revelation, however, is that the more developed the democratic institutions and the degree of local autonomy, the more satisfied people are with their lives. While such factors as rising income increase personal happiness only minimally, institutions that facilitate more individual involvement in politics (such as referendums) have a substantial effect. For countries such as the United States, where disillusionment with politics seems to be on the rise, such findings are especially significant. By applying econometrics to a real-world issue of general concern and yielding surprising results, Happiness and Economics promises to spark healthy debate over a wide range of the social sciences.

Download or read book Measuring Employees Job Satisfaction As Moderated by Cultural Dimension Power Distance in Public and Private Sectors Pakistani Organizations written by Saqib Malik and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether different facets of job satisfaction exist and if yes, then their existence determine employees' total job satisfaction in Pakistani public and private sector organizations, and whether cultural dimension Power distance moderates between 'job satisfaction facets' and 'total job satisfaction'. From one perspective, findings of the current study support all nine hypotheses that claim nine facets of job satisfaction determine overall job satisfaction. But on other hand findings of current study do not support that power distance moderates relationship between job satisfaction facets and employees overall job satisfaction. Management of organizations, whether public or private sector, should take note of the fact that almost all nine facets of job satisfaction have been found statistically significant factors of determining of job satisfaction among employees; hence these factors should be considered and used as primary movers for motivating employees for hard work, greater productivity and improved efficiency.
