Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bering Sea, which lies between the United States and Russia, is one of the most productive ecosystems in the world and has prolific fishing grounds. Yet there have been significant unexplained population fluctuations in marine mammals and birds in the region. The book examines the Bering Sea ecosystem's dynamics and the relationship between man and the ecosystem, in order to identify potential reasons for the population fluctuations as well as identify ways the Sea's living resources can be better managed by government.

Book Climate Time Series Analysis

    Book Details:
  • Author : Manfred Mudelsee
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-08-26
  • ISBN : 9048194822
  • Pages : 497 pages

Download or read book Climate Time Series Analysis written by Manfred Mudelsee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-26 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate is a paradigm of a complex system. Analysing climate data is an exciting challenge, which is increased by non-normal distributional shape, serial dependence, uneven spacing and timescale uncertainties. This book presents bootstrap resampling as a computing-intensive method able to meet the challenge. It shows the bootstrap to perform reliably in the most important statistical estimation techniques: regression, spectral analysis, extreme values and correlation. This book is written for climatologists and applied statisticians. It explains step by step the bootstrap algorithms (including novel adaptions) and methods for confidence interval construction. It tests the accuracy of the algorithms by means of Monte Carlo experiments. It analyses a large array of climate time series, giving a detailed account on the data and the associated climatological questions. This makes the book self-contained for graduate students and researchers.

Book Cloud Based Remote Sensing with Google Earth Engine

Download or read book Cloud Based Remote Sensing with Google Earth Engine written by Jeffrey A. Cardille and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-04 with total page 1210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book guides its audience—which can range from novice users to experts— though a 55-chapter tour of Google Earth Engine. A sequenced and diverse set of lab materials, this is the product of more than a year of effort from more than a hundred individuals, collecting new exercises from professors, undergraduates, master’s students, PhD students, postdocs, and independent consultants. Cloud Based Remote Sensing with Google Earth Engine is broadly organized into two halves. The first half, Fundamentals, is a set of 31 labs designed to take the reader from being a complete Earth Engine novice to being a quite advanced user. The second half, Applications, presents a tour of the world of Earth Engine across 24 chapters, showing how it is used in a very wide variety of settings that rely on remote-sensing data This is an open access book.

Book Application of Remote Sensing in Coastal Oceanic Processes

Download or read book Application of Remote Sensing in Coastal Oceanic Processes written by Lei Ren and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing technology is a key technology and an important tool to help realize the sustainable development of marine resources and the environment. Remote sensing is playing an increasing role in global change research, resource investigation, environmental monitoring and prediction. In the process of maintaining the sustainable development of marine resources and the environment, remote sensing technology will not only greatly promote the development of information science and technology, space science and technology, environmental science and technology and earth science, but also further promote the intersection and integration of different disciplines. Ocean remote sensing technology provides a robust platform for the acquisition of marine basic data and plays a major role in issues such as the construction of new ports, the opening of new channels, offshore oil exploitation and coastal ecological governance and protection.

Book Principles and Applications of Ubiquitous Sensing

Download or read book Principles and Applications of Ubiquitous Sensing written by Waltenegus Dargie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-01-17 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications which use wireless sensors are increasing in number. The emergence of wireless sensor networks has also motivated the integration of a large number of small and lightweight nodes which integrate sensors, processors, and wireless transceivers. Existing books on wireless sensor networks mainly focus on protocols and networks and pay little attention to the sensors themselves which the author believes is the main focus. Without adequate knowledge of sensors as well as how they can be designed, realized and used, books on wireless sensor networks become too theoretical and irrelevant. The purpose of this book is to intimately acquaint readers with the technique of sensing (resistive, capacitive, inductive, magnetic, inertial, etc.) and existing sensor technologies. It also discusses how the sensors are used in a wide application domain and how new sensors can be designed and used in a novel way.

Book Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources

Download or read book Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources written by Ramakar Jha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-27 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides insights and a capacity to understand the climate change phenomenon, its impact on water resources, and possible remedial measures. The impact of climate change on water resources is a global issue and cause for concern. Water resources in many countries are extremely stressed, and climate change along with burgeoning populations, the rise in living standards, and increasing demand on resources are factors which serve to exacerbate this stress. The chapters provide information on tools that will be useful to mitigate the adverse consequences of natural disasters. Fundamental to addressing these issues is hydrological modelling which is discussed in this book and ways to combat climate change as an important aspect of water resource management.
