Book Desingularization of Nilpotent Singularities in Families of Planar Vector Fields

Download or read book Desingularization of Nilpotent Singularities in Families of Planar Vector Fields written by Daniel Panazzolo and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work aims to prove a desingularization theorem for analytic families of two-dimensional vector fields, under the hypothesis that all its singularities have a non-vanishing first jet. Application to problems of singular perturbations and finite cyclicity are discussed in the last chapter.

Book Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields

Download or read book Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields written by Freddy Dumortier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reports on recent work by the authors on the bifurcation structure of singular points of planar vector fields whose linear parts are nilpotent. The bifurcation diagrams of the most important codimension-three cases are studied in detail. The results presented reach the limits of what is currently known on the bifurcation theory of planar vector fields. While the treatment is geometric, special analytical tools using abelian integrals are needed, and are explicitly developed. The rescaling and normalization methods are improved for application here. The reader is assumed to be familiar with the elements of Bifurcation and Dynamical Systems Theory. The book is addressed to researchers and graduate students working in Ordinary Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, as well as anyone modelling complex multiparametric phenomena.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of papers in this volume represents recent advances in the under standing of the geometry and topology of singularities. The book covers a broad range of topics which are in the focus of contemporary singularity theory. Its idea emerged during two Singularities workshops held at the University of Lille (USTL) in 1999 and 2000. Due to the breadth of singularity theory, a single volume can hardly give the complete picture of today's progress. Nevertheless, this collection of papers provides a good snapshot of what is the state of affairs in the field, at the turn of the century. Several papers deal with global aspects of singularity theory. Classification of fam ilies of plane curves with prescribed singularities were among the first problems in algebraic geometry. Classification of plane cubics was known to Newton and classification of quartics was achieved by Klein at the end of the 19th century. The problem of classification of curves of higher degrees was addressed in numerous works after that. In the paper by Artal, Carmona and Cogolludo, the authors de scribe irreducible sextic curves having a singular point of type An (n > 15) and a large (Le. , :::: 18) sum of Milnor numbers of other singularities. They have discov ered many interesting properties of these families. In particular they have found new examples of so-called Zariski pairs, i. e.

Book Desingularization Strategies of Three Dimensional Vector Fields

Download or read book Desingularization Strategies of Three Dimensional Vector Fields written by Felipe Cano Torres and published by Lecture Notes in Mathematics. This book was released on 1987-05-20 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a vector field #3, where Ai are series in X, the algebraic multiplicity measures the singularity at the origin. In this research monograph several strategies are given to make the algebraic multiplicity of a three-dimensional vector field decrease, by means of permissible blowing-ups of the ambient space, i.e. transformations of the type xi=x'ix1, 2is, xi=x'i, i>s. A logarithmic point of view is taken, marking the exceptional divisor of each blowing-up and by considering only the vector fields which are tangent to this divisor, instead of the whole tangent sheaf. The first part of the book is devoted to the logarithmic background and to the permissible blowing-ups. The main part corresponds to the control of the algorithms for the desingularization strategies by means of numerical invariants inspired by Hironaka's characteristic polygon. Only basic knowledge of local algebra and algebraic geometry is assumed of the reader. The pathologies we find in the reduction of vector fields are analogous to pathologies in the problem of reduction of singularities in characteristic p. Hence the book is potentially interesting both in the context of resolution of singularities and in that of vector fields and dynamical systems.

Book Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields and Hilbert s Sixteenth Problem

Download or read book Bifurcations of Planar Vector Fields and Hilbert s Sixteenth Problem written by Robert Roussarie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a coherent, exhaustive and progressive way, this book presents the tools for studying local bifurcations of limit cycles in families of planar vector fields. A systematic introduction is given to such methods as division of an analytic family of functions in its ideal of coefficients, and asymptotic expansion of non-differentiable return maps and desingularisation. The exposition moves from classical analytic geometric methods applied to regular limit periodic sets to more recent tools for singular limit sets. The methods can be applied to theoretical problems such as Hilbert's 16th problem, but also for the purpose of establishing bifurcation diagrams of specific families as well as explicit computations. - - - The book as a whole is a well-balanced exposition that can be recommended to all those who want to gain a thorough understanding and proficiency in the recently developed methods. The book, reflecting the current state of the art, can also be used for teaching special courses. (Mathematical Reviews)

Book Lecture Notes on O Minimal Structures and Real Analytic Geometry

Download or read book Lecture Notes on O Minimal Structures and Real Analytic Geometry written by Chris Miller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume was produced in conjunction with the Thematic Program in o-Minimal Structures and Real Analytic Geometry, held from January to June of 2009 at the Fields Institute. Five of the six contributions consist of notes from graduate courses associated with the program: Felipe Cano on a new proof of resolution of singularities for planar analytic vector fields; Chris Miller on o-minimality and Hardy fields; Jean-Philippe Rolin on the construction of o-minimal structures from quasianalytic classes; Fernando Sanz on non-oscillatory trajectories of vector fields; and Patrick Speissegger on pfaffian sets. The sixth contribution, by Antongiulio Fornasiero and Tamara Servi, is an adaptation to the nonstandard setting of A.J. Wilkie's construction of o-minimal structures from infinitely differentiable functions. Most of this material is either unavailable elsewhere or spread across many different sources such as research papers, conference proceedings and PhD theses. This book will be a useful tool for graduate students or researchers from related fields who want to learn about expansions of o-minimal structures by solutions, or images thereof, of definable systems of differential equations.

Download or read book Numerical Control over Complex Analytic Singularities written by David B. Massey and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generalizes the Le cycles and numbers to the case of hyper surfaces inside arbitrary analytic spaces. This book defines the Le-Vogel cycles and numbers, and prove that the Le-Vogel numbers control Thom's $a_f$ condition. It describes the relationship between the Euler characteristic of the Milnor fibre and the Le-Vogel numbers.

Book Topological Invariants of the Complement to Arrangements of Rational Plane Curves

Download or read book Topological Invariants of the Complement to Arrangements of Rational Plane Curves written by José Ignacio Cogolludo-Agustín and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors analyse two topological invariants of an embedding of an arrangement of rational plane curves in the projective complex plane, namely, the cohomology ring of the complement and the characteristic varieties. Their main result states that the cohomology ring of the complement to a rational arrangement is generated by logarithmic 1 and 2-forms and its structure depends on a finite number of invariants of the curve (its combinatorial type).

Book Multiple Time Scale Dynamics

Download or read book Multiple Time Scale Dynamics written by Christian Kuehn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to dynamical systems with multiple time scales. The approach it takes is to provide an overview of key areas, particularly topics that are less available in the introductory form. The broad range of topics included makes it accessible for students and researchers new to the field to gain a quick and thorough overview. The first of its kind, this book merges a wide variety of different mathematical techniques into a more unified framework. The book is highly illustrated with many examples and exercises and an extensive bibliography. The target audience of this book are senior undergraduates, graduate students as well as researchers interested in using the multiple time scale dynamics theory in nonlinear science, either from a theoretical or a mathematical modeling perspective.

Book From Representation Theory to Homotopy Groups

Download or read book From Representation Theory to Homotopy Groups written by Donald M. Davis and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A formula for the odd-primary v1-periodic homotopy groups of a finite H-space in terms of its K-theory and Adams operations has been obtained by Bousfield. This work applys this theorem to give explicit determinations of the v1-periodic homotopy groups of (E8,5) and (E8,3), thus completing the determination of all odd-primary v1-periodic homotopy groups of all compact simple Lie groups, a project suggested by Mimura in 1989.

Book Dualities on Generalized Koszul Algebras

Download or read book Dualities on Generalized Koszul Algebras written by Edward L. Green and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Koszul rings are graded rings which have played an important role in algebraic topology, noncommutative algebraic geometry and in the theory of quantum groups. One aspect of the theory is to compare the module theory for a Koszul ring and its Koszul dual. There are dualities between subcategories of graded modules; the Koszul modules.

Book Extending Intersection Homology Type Invariants to Non Witt Spaces

Download or read book Extending Intersection Homology Type Invariants to Non Witt Spaces written by Markus Banagl and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intersection homology theory provides a way to obtain generalized Poincare duality, as well as a signature and characteristic classes, for singular spaces. For this to work, one has had to assume however that the space satisfies the so-called Witt condition. We extend this approach to constructing invariants to spaces more general than Witt spaces.
