Book Practical Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Practical Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint written by William Griswold Smith and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Descriptive Geometry In presenting a new text-book on Descriptive Geometry, the writer is fully aware of the excellence of existing treatises, and appreciates what they have contributed toward a higher standard of technical training. The authors of these treatises, pursuing their several courses, have carried the development of the subject to a high plane. However, in spite of the indisputable excellence of many of the text-books, they seem to have failed to arouse the interest of the student, partly by ignoring the practical applications, and partly by making only a slight attempt to present the subject attractively. Some of the books are valuable only for reference and are useless in the class room; others are incomplete in the essentials; some are faddish, emphasizing certain features and treating the rest inadequately, while even the best convey to the student only a very slight idea of the practical value of the subject. This has given rise to the belief, prevailing almost universally in the student body, that Descriptive Geometry is merely a disciplinary study, having little or no relation to the life work of the individual. Book The Essentials of Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Essentials of Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint written by F. G. Higbee and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Essentials of Descriptive Geometry IT has been the endeavor Of the author in writing this text to include only those portions Of descriptive geometry which possess industrial utility and which develop the qualities Of mind so essential in a draftsman. First and foremost descriptive geometry should aim to teach projection. A draftsman must be able both to read and to write drawings with facility, and projection is the very grammar Of the language Of the designer. Secondly, descriptive geometry should aim to develop the ability to solve problems concerning the relations Of points, lines, and planes. These are, of course, but elementary parts Of all engineering structures as shown on drawings and it is important that a draftsman be prepared to solve problems relating to them directly on the drawing board. Thirdly, and perhaps most important Of all, descriptive geometry should aim to promote the ability to analyse a problem into its component parts, to reason from a given set Of conditions to a required set Of conclusions, and to build up from the drawing a mental picture of the Object which is there represented, for Without the ability to analyse, to reason, and to Visualize a draftsman is lacking in the essential qualifications of his calling. Book Descriptive Geometry The Spread of a Polytechnic Art

Download or read book Descriptive Geometry The Spread of a Polytechnic Art written by Évelyne Barbin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to explore the history of descriptive geometry in relation to its circulation in the 19th century, which had been favoured by the transfers of the model of the École Polytechnique to other countries. The book also covers the diffusion of its teaching from higher instruction to technical and secondary teaching. In relation to that, there is analysis of the role of the institution – similar but definitely not identical in the different countries – in the field under consideration. The book contains chapters focused on different countries, areas, and institutions, written by specialists of the history of the field. Insights on descriptive geometry are provided in the context of the mathematical aspect, the aspect of teaching in particular to non-mathematicians, and the institutions themselves.

Book Essentials of Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Essentials of Descriptive Geometry Classic Reprint written by J. D. Phillips and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Essentials of Descriptive Geometry It may help some instructors who contemplate using the fol lowing text-book to know how the authors have used the book in their classes. With this in View, the following general method for conducting the course is suggested and an outline of lessons given. Each instructor will, no doubt, need to alter the outline to some extent to suit the conditions under which he works. At the University of Wisconsin, descriptive geometry is given as a three credit course for one semester of eighteen weeks. Each week's work consists of one general lecture for all students in the course, one recitation, and two two-hour drafting periods for each section. One of the two-hour draft ing periods is sometimes turned into a one-hour recitation period. At the lecture, the general principles involved in the next lesson are explained, general announcements made, and prob lems assigned for a home plate which is to be handed in at the beginning of the recitation period. At the recitation, the stu dents are drilled in the analyses of the problems and then sent to the black board with some particular problem to solve. Book Distinguished Figures in Descriptive Geometry and Its Applications for Mechanism Science

Download or read book Distinguished Figures in Descriptive Geometry and Its Applications for Mechanism Science written by Michela Cigola and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of chapters that focus specifically on single figures that worked on Descriptive Geometry and also in Mechanisms Sciences and contain biographical notes, a survey of their work and their achievements, together with a modern interpretation of their legacy. Since Vitruvius in ancient times, and with Brunelleschi in the Renaissance, the two disciplines began to share a common direction which, over the centuries, took shape through less well-known figures until the more recent times in which Gaspard Monge worked. Over the years, a gap has been created between Descriptive Geometry and Mechanism Science, which now appear to belong to different worlds. In reality, however, there is a very close relationship between the two disciplines, with a link based on extremely solid foundations. Without the theoretical foundations of Geometry it would not be possible to draw and design mechanical parts such as gears, while in Kinematics it would be less easy to design and predict the reciprocal movements of parts in a complex mechanical assembly.

Book Descriptive Geometry for Students of Engineering Classic Reprint

Download or read book Descriptive Geometry for Students of Engineering Classic Reprint written by James Ambrose Moyer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Descriptive Geometry for Students of Engineering In Fig. 2a we see the planes Of projection, the hexagonal pyra mid, and the projections of the outlines Of the pyramid on the planes, as in a picture. All is shown as one complete view, such as we see when several sides Of an Object we are looking at are seen from a single viewpoint. If, however, the eye is moved SO that we see only one projection at a time, a set of three difi'erent views would be Obtained, called orthographic projections. By the methods of orthographic projection, these views would be arranged as in Fig. 2b. In this latter figure, a horizontal line is first drawn to represent the X axis, usually near the middle Of the space to be taken for the drawing. Then at right angles to this line the Y and Z axes are drawn as shown. To represent by this method the views shown pictorially in Fig. 2a, the horizontal projection is drawn behind the X axis and on the left-hand Side Of the vertical Y axis. The front vertical projection is drawn below the X axis and vertically below the horizontal projection. The side ver tical projection is also drawn below the X axis but on the other side Of the Z axis. As the views are thus shown the horizontal projection shows the outlines Of the pyramid when the eye is im mediately over the horizontal plane. The front and side vertical projections represent the outlines as they appear when the eye is moved in front Of the front and side vertical planes. This is a very convenient way to arrange the projections Of an Object, and it has the advantage that it is more easily understood by mechanics Of ordinary ability, than some other arrangements of the same projections that will be discussed later. It seems needless, therefore, to include them in this elementary text. If it is desirable to include more advanced work in the course of Descriptive Geometry, this book will form such a foundation that the student may readily interpret any higher treatise. H. C. B.
