This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the project “Development and Validation of High Resolution Climate System Models” with the support of the National Key Basic Research Project under grant No. 2010CB951900. It demonstrates the major advances in the development of new, dynamical Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) and Ocean General Circulation Model (OGCM) cores that are suitable for high resolution modeling, the improvement of model physics, and the design of a flexible, multi-model ensemble coupling framework. It is a useful reference for graduate students, researchers and professionals working in the related areas of climate modeling and climate change. Prof. Rucong Yu works at the China Meteorological Administration; Prof. Tianjun Zhou works at LASG, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Tongwen Wu works at Beijing Climate Center, China Meteorological Administration; Associate Prof. Wei Xue works at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University; Prof. Guangqing Zhou works at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Book General Circulation Model Development

Download or read book General Circulation Model Development written by David A. Randall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-07-19 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Circulation Models (GCMs) are rapidly assuming widespread use as powerful tools for predicting global events on time scales of months to decades, such as the onset of EL Nino, monsoons, soil moisture saturation indices, global warming estimates, and even snowfall predictions. While GCMs have been praised for helping to foretell the current El Nino and its impact on droughts in Indonesia, its full power is only now being recognized by international scientists and governments who seek to link GCMs to help them estimate fish harvests, risk of floods, landslides, and even forest fires.Scientists in oceanography, hydrology, meteorology, and climatology and civil, ocean, and geological engineers perceive a need for a reference on GCM design. In this compilation of information by an internationally recognized group of experts, Professor Randall brings together the knowledge base of the forerunners in theoretical and applied frontiers of GCM development. General Circulation Model Development focuses on the past, present, and future design of numerical methods for general circulation modeling, as well as the physical parameterizations required for their proper implementation. Additional chapters on climate simulation and other applications provide illustrative examples of state-of-the-art GCM design.Key Features* Foreword by Norman Phillips* Authoritative overviews of current issues and ideas on global circulation modeling by leading experts* Retrospective and forward-looking chapters by Akio Arakawa of UCLA* Historical perspectives on the early years of general circulation modeling* Indispensable reference for researchers and graduate students

Book Parallel Supercomputing In Atmospheric Science Proceedings Of The Fifth Ecmwf Workshop On The Use Of Parallel Processors In Meteorology

Download or read book Parallel Supercomputing In Atmospheric Science Proceedings Of The Fifth Ecmwf Workshop On The Use Of Parallel Processors In Meteorology written by Geerd-r Hoffmann and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-07-15 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weather forecasting and climatology have traditionally been users of the world's fastest supercomputers. The recent emergence of massively parallel supercomputers as likely successors to current vector supercomputers has created an acute need to convert weather and climate models to suit parallel supercomputers with thousands of processors. Several major efforts are underway worldwide to accomplish this. ECMWF has established itself as the central venue for bringing together operational weather forecasters, climate researchers and parallel computer manufacturers to share their experience on these efforts every second year. The recent dramatic developments in supercomputer manufacturing have made the 1992 ECMWF Workshop timelier than before.

Book Handbook of Ecological Models used in Ecosystem and Environmental Management

Download or read book Handbook of Ecological Models used in Ecosystem and Environmental Management written by Sven Erik Jorgensen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that roughly 1000 new ecological and environmental models join the ranks of the scientific literature each year. The international peer-reviewed literature reports some 20,000 new models spanning the period from 1970-2010. Just to keep abreast of the field it is necessary to design a handbook of models that doesn't merely list them,

Book Models and Measurements Intercomparison II

Download or read book Models and Measurements Intercomparison II written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models and measurements intercomparison II (MM II) summarizes the intercomparison results from model simulations and observations of stratospheric species. Representatives from 23 modeling groups using 29 models participated in these MM II excercises between 1996 and 1999. Twelve of the models were two-dimensional zonal-mean models while 17 were three-dimensional models. This was an international effort as seven were from outside the U.S.A. Six transport experiments and five chemistry experiments were designed for various models. Models participating in the transport experiments performed simulations of chemically inert tracers providing diagnostics for transport. The chemistry experiments involved simulating the distributions of chemically active trace gases including ozone.
