Book excerpt: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo desarrollar y evaluar un modelo de riego por pulsos en un pivote central. Se determinó un modelo que estima la tasa de aplicación de un aspersor i-Wob de acuerdo al diámetro de alcance de las boquillas. Posteriormente se integró el modelo con intervalos de tiempo, obteniendo la lámina de agua con aplicación de pulsos. La evaluación del modelo se realizó en un pivote de 202 metros de largo que riega una superficie de 7,4 hectáreas. Se observaron 3 puntos bajo el pivote, a 36,5, 91,4 y 157,7 metros del centro del pivote. La evaluación se realizó para velocidades de 52 y 100 horas por giro, con fracciones de pulsos de 40, 60, 80 y 100% aplicado a períodos de tiempo de 35 segundos en el pivote. El modelo propuesto presenta variaciones que en su mayoría no superan 1,5 mm, con diferencias relativas (RD) de no más del 15 % al compararlo con las mediciones realizadas en el pivote central. En algunos casos las diferencias entre el modelo y las mediciones superan los 2 mm con un RD que 2 sobrepasa el 25%. Se estima que esto ocurre debido a que el modelo no considera la velocidad del viento, que en terreno sobrepasó los 2 m s-1, además del efecto del cierre y apertura de las válvulas solenoides, lo que justifica las diferencias que existen. Finalmente, con los argumentos descritos, el modelo propuesto simula satisfactoriamente la lámina de agua con aplicación de riego con pulsos. Esto permitirá evaluar dicha tecnología y sus implicaciones en riego de precisión en un pivote central.
