Book Qu hacemos por una muerte digna

Download or read book Qu hacemos por una muerte digna written by Luis Montes and published by Ediciones AKAL. This book was released on 2012-11-22 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Ultimately, making and implementing laws to ensure a responsible right to die_as the U.S. has been struggling with in Oregon, Michigan, and elsewhere_will be informed by experiences in such places as the Netherlands, Australia, and the only country in the world where euthanasia is a clear-cut medical option: Colombia.

Book Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

Download or read book Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide written by Michael J. Cholbi and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses key historical, scientific, legal, and philosophical issues surrounding euthanasia and assisted suicide in the United States as well as in other countries and cultures. Euthanasia was practiced by Greek physicians as early as 500 BC. In the 20th century, legal and ethical controversies surrounding assisted dying exploded. Many religions and medical organizations led the way in opposition, citing the incompatibility of assisted dying with various religious traditions and with the obligations of medical personnel toward their patients. Today, these practices remain highly controversial both in the United States and around the world. Comprising contributions from an international group of experts, this book thoroughly investigates euthanasia and assisted suicide from an interdisciplinary and global perspective. It presents the ethical arguments for and against assisted dying; highlights how assisted dying is perceived in various cultural and philosophical traditions—for example, South and East Asian cultures, Latin American perspectives, and religions including Islam and Christianity; and considers how assisted dying has both shaped and been shaped by the emergence of professionalized bioethics. Readers will also learn about the most controversial issues related to assisted dying, such as pediatric euthanasia, assisted dying for organ transplantation, and "suicide tourism," and examine concerns relating to assisted dying for racial minorities, children, and the disabled.

Book EUTHANASIA AND ASSISTED SUICIDE

Download or read book EUTHANASIA AND ASSISTED SUICIDE written by Jean Pierre Wenger and published by MB Cooltura. This book was released on 2023-08-11 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Societies are based on the principle of the inalienable right to life, and indeed States have a duty to preserve life. Euthanasia is based on a human principle: to shorten the unnecessary suffering of the person undergoing a process of terminal deterioration. Of course, different cultures and different bodies of law have different assessments of the subject. The right to assisted suicide or to a so-called "dignified death" generates debates: those in favor ask why, if each person has the freedom to make decisions about his or her own life, the most important decision of all is prevented in a final phase. Those who are against it postulate the deviations that its legalization would provoke: for example, the disinvestment or even elimination of palliative care, considered as an unnecessary expense, and the possible helplessness of a patient in the care of a family overcome by suffering. It is even argued that there is a contradiction between euthanasia and physicians ́ Hippocratic oath.

Book Much more than euthanasia The evolution and core of the emerging right to die with dignity in Colombia

Download or read book Much more than euthanasia The evolution and core of the emerging right to die with dignity in Colombia written by Lucas Correa-Montoya and published by DescLAB. This book was released on 2024-07-31 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication has four objectives which are pursued in three chapters. First, it synthesizes and describes the emergence of the right to die with dignity in Colombia, analyzing how it was born, how it has evolved, and how it has been consolidated in recent decades, proposing a genealogy of the process that allows us to understand and communicate it. Second, it reflects on the law as an instrument of social change: it uses the path of the emergence and evolution of the right to die with dignity as a successful case—despite its difficulties and limitations. These two objectives are developed in the first chapter. Third, the publication examines Colombia's current state of the right to die with dignity. It explains its legal nature and core obligations and discusses the mechanisms available to exercise it and the criteria that must be met to access them. The second chapter develops this objective. Finally, in the conclusion of the text, it identifies the challenges that we will face in the future, not only in Colombia but also in Latin America, when it comes to the right to die with dignity, that is, the recognition, expansion, and deepening of the possibility of making free and autonomous decisions about the end of life.

Book Euthanasia and Law in Europe

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Griffiths
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2008-05-21
  • ISBN : 1847314309
  • Pages : 644 pages

Download or read book Euthanasia and Law in Europe written by John Griffiths and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05-21 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a successor to J Griffiths, A Bood and H Weyers, Euthanasia and Law in the Netherlands (Amsterdam University Press 1998) which was widely praised for its thoroughness, clarity, and accuracy. The new book emphasises recent legal developments and new research, and has been expanded to include a full treatment of Belgium, where since 2002 euthanasia has also become legal. The book also includes descriptions written by local specialists of the legal situation and what is known about actual practice in a number of other European countries (England and Wales, France, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, Switzerland). The book strives for as complete and dispassionate a description of the situation as possible. It covers in detail: - the substantive law applicable to euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, withholding and withdrawing treatment, use of pain relief in potentially lethal doses, palliative and terminal sedation, and termination of life without a request (in particular in the case of newborn babies); -the process of legal development that has led to the current state of the law; -the system of legal control and its operation in practice; -the results of empirical research concerning actual medical practice. A concluding part deals with some general questions that arise out of the material presented: Is the legalisation of euthanasia an example of the decline of law or should it, on the contrary, be seen as part and parcel of the increasing juridification of the doctor-patient relationship? Does the Dutch experience with legalised euthanasia support the idea of a 'slippery slope' toward a situation in which life-especially of the more vulnerable members of society-is less effectively protected? Is it possible to explain and to predict when a society will decide to legalise euthanasia?
