Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Download or read book The Jurassic of Denmark and Greenland written by Jon R. Ineson and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jurassic of Denmark and adjacent areas occurs mostly in the subsurface and research has thus focussed on the wealth of borehole and reflection seismic data resulting from over thirty years of hydrocarbon exploration. The Jurassic of East Greenland, in contrast, is exposed in spectacular cliffs along fjords and mountainsides and has come to be regarded as a unique field laboratory, particularly amongst those working on the Norwegian shelf--the conjugate margin of East Greenland. This bulletin presents the results of a period of intensive research into the Jurassic in the late 1980s and 1990s. Following detailed chronostratigraphic and biostratigraphic reviews of the Jurassic of Northwest Europe, the successions of Denmark and East Greenland are subjected to a range of stratigraphic, sedimentological, structural and geochemical studies that together provide the basis for a detailed comparison of the Jurassic evolution of the East Greenland and Danish sedimentary basins.
Download or read book Recent Developments in Applied Biostratigraphy written by Alister James Powell and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2005 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three organizations devoted to micropalaeontology held a joint meeting in London in September 2002 to encourage the trans-Atlantic sharing of ideas and to develop an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to both the academic and industrial realms. The 13 papers here, a small selection of those presented, discuss such topics as morphostratigraphy a
Download or read book Cratering in Marine Environments and on Ice written by Henning Dypvik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their global importance, little is known about the few existing examples of impacts into marine environments and icy targets. They are among the least understood and studied parts of impact crater geology. The icy impacts are also of great importance in understanding the developments of the outer planets and their satellites such as Mars or Europa. Furthermore, the impact mechanisms, crater formation and collapse, melt production and the ejecta distribution are scarcely known for impact on targets other than the "classical" solid silicates of the continental crust. The reaction of water and ice to impacts clearly deserves a more thorough study. The understanding of impact effects and consequences in the case of aqueous hits, soft sediments and icy targets has not been thoroughly explored and comprises the main focus of this book. A number of papers in the field of hypervelocity impacts on ice are included. These cover a review of available literature in the field of laboratory studies of such impacts, large impact structures on Titan, predicting impact cratering on a comet nucleus, and a novel report on the survival of bacteria fired at hypervelocity into icy surfaces. This latter paper is concerned with astrobiology and in particular Panspermia (natural migration of life through space).
Download or read book Mesozoic Resource Potential in the Southern Permian Basin written by B. Kilhams and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-08-31 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Southern Permian Basin, as its name suggests, is a historical heartland for hydrocarbon production from the Palaeozoic Rotliegend interval. However, in this mature basin the Mesozoic presents further possibilities to offer resource security to NW Europe. Such opportunities include increasing efficiency in the production of discovered hydrocarbons, exploration for further hydrocarbons (both conventional and unconventional) and efficient exploration for, and production of, geothermal energy. All these potential resources require a grounding in technically sound geoscience, via traditional scientific observation and the application of new technologies, to unlock their value. The main aim of this volume is to bring together the work of academics and industry workers to consider cross-border geoscience including contributions on Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and adjacent areas. The work presented intends to contribute to the development and discovery of further Mesozoic energy resources across the basin.

Download or read book An Australian Phanerozoic Timescale written by Gavin C. Young and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1996 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a new global perspective on the Phanerozoic timescale, by bringing together extensive Australian and overseas research on biostratigraphy, geochronology, and magnetostratigraphy. For the first time, correlations are established between Australian and European biozonal schemes for the entire Phanerozoic, by integrating local and international biozones, isotopic ages, and magnetic polarity intervals. Tie points are based on tightly constrained isotopic and biostrastigraphic ages, and this is the first compilation for the whole of the Phanerozoic to apply results from the latest isotopic dating techniques, including the high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) and variants of the (superscript 40)Ar/(superscript 39)Ar method. These have radically rescaled some parts of the geological column. An Australian Phanerozoic Timescale gives the essential framework for resource exploration, geologic modelling, and reconstruction of past environments and land-sea configurations during the last 545 million years of earth history.
Download or read book Cretaceous Palynostratigraphy of Offshore Southeastern Canada written by Jonathan P. Bujak and published by Geological Survey of Canada ; Hull, Que. : available from Printing and Pub. Supply and Services Canada. This book was released on 1978 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Palynology is one of the few techniques available for subdivision and age correlation of the subsurface sediments of offshore southeastern Canada. The Cretaceous of this area is subdivided into eleven palynological zones which are tentatively related to the standard European stage terminology. The Scotian Shelf-Grand Banks Cretaceous differs laterally in its development, being fairly complete on the Scotian Shelf, but having most of the Lower Cretaceous absent over the central Grand Banks and Upper Cretaceous absent from some of the eastern Grand Banks wells. Where present, Lower Cretaceous-Cenomanian sediments are considerably thicker than post-Cenomanian Cretaceous sediments in both areas. Dinocyst species diversity is fairly uniform throughout the Cretaceous, peaking in the Albian (70 species) and being much reduced in the Berriasian (37 species) and Aptian (42 species)." --
