Book Special Educational Needs

Download or read book Special Educational Needs written by Michael Farrell and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2004-01-23 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `This book provides a succinct overview of SEN policy and is likely to be a useful resource for those undertaking accredited courses related to SEN and inclusion′ - SENCO Update ′The combination of the theoretical and practical aspects of special educational needs makes this book a valuable resource for practitioners and should enable them to develop reflective and insightful practice.′ - Michael Shevlin, Trinity College Dublin, TES Extra Special Needs `This is a comprehensive and thorough overview of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) landscape as it is in the UK today. The book is very clearly aimed at specialists in the field, and Michael Farrell incorporates developments that are sometimes ignored - emotional intelligence for example. There is a nice touch in that each chapter concludes with ′thinking points′. I could see that the book could make a sound basis for a training course on SEN, based around these. The book is highly readable though I expect it is more likely to be used as a reference text, or, as I suggested above, as a basis for training. However it is used, it is invaluable as an up to date assessment of SEN in 2004 and highly recommended to anyone working, or planning to work in this field′ - Nurtuting Potential `Essential reading for every SENCO, in fact, for everyone involved in special educational needs. By examining the background to key areas the book gives teachers, managers and advisers the depth of understanding that is necessary to make informed choices about what constitutes the most effective practice′ - Dr Tony Lingard, Head of Learning Support, Cambourne Science and Community College `With its scope and depth of coverage, this book provides a useful resource through combining background information, theory and practice as well as the tools for further research for both novice and experienced practitioner′ - Ms Lyn Hurst, Headteacher This book provides a `route map′ for special education. Through examining related disciplines, which illuminate the field, it considers how special education can be better understood. The author views issues in special education within the wider disciplines of history, sociology, law, politics, ethics, economics, medicine and psychology. He looks at the national, local and school frameworks in which special education operates, and shows how provision for pupils with special educational needs is influenced by structures, procedures and practices at national, local and school levels. Features include: } the ethics of preventing disability } ′lesson′s history } identifying value in sociological perspectives } psychological and other Models of teaching } aspects of the National Framework } aspects of the Local Framework } the School SEN Policy } the Curriculum and School Organization This book is essential reading for teachers, headteachers, Special Educational Needs co-ordinators and all those who have an interest in special education and managing inclusion.

Book An Overview of South African Human Resources Development

Download or read book An Overview of South African Human Resources Development written by Andre Kraak and published by HSRC Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of human resources development (HRD) in South Africa. It focuses on three institutional subsystems within the larger South African social system that play an important role in developing human resources, namely: * the youth labour market * the world if work with its associated enterprise training system * the national system of science and innovation The analysis shows how, ion the current South African context, contradiction and incoherence characterise the interaction between institutions in each of these three subsystems. The book also argues that the skills problem is not located only at the high-skills end but also in intermediate- and low-skill needs. Each of these skill bands are experiencing severe HRD problems which require urgent resolution. The author argues that solutions to these problems lie in cross-sect oral governmental policy co-ordination and implementation and that in the absence of such" joined-up" action, HRD problems will continue to fall between the discrete mandates of separate government departments.

Book Environmental and Sustainability Education Policy

Download or read book Environmental and Sustainability Education Policy written by Katrien Van Poeck and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely collection surveys and critiques studies of environmental and sustainability education (ESE) policy since the mid-1990s. The volume draws on a wide range of policy studies and syntheses to provide readers with insights into the international genealogy and priorities of ESE policy. Editors and contributors call for renewed attention to the possibilities for future directions in light of previously published work and innovations in scholarship. They also offer critical commentary on the evolution of research trends, approaches and findings. Including a wide range of examples of ESE policy and policy research, the book draws on studies of educational initiatives and legislation, policy making processes and rhetoric, ideological orthodoxy and critique, curriculum making and educational theory, globalisation and neoliberalism, climate change and environmental worldviews, and much more. In addition, introductory commentary from the editors traces how ESE researchers have dealt with key trends, complexities and issues in the policy-practice-research nexus both conceptually and empirically. Throughout the collection, contributions illustrate how researchers might reimagine and reinvigorate policy research on ESE, including how working with other fields and diverse perspectives, ideas and expertise will aid the cross-fertilisation of a complex terrain of ideas, policy and practice. This book is based on a special issue of Environmental Education Research.
