Book Aspects Of Harmonic Analysis On Locally Compact Abelian Groups

Download or read book Aspects Of Harmonic Analysis On Locally Compact Abelian Groups written by Jean H Gallier and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-06-21 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourier transform is a 'tool' used in engineering and computer vision to model periodic phenomena. Starting with the basics of measure theory and integration, this book delves into the harmonic analysis of locally compact abelian groups. It provides an in-depth tour of the beautiful theory of the Fourier transform based on the results of Gelfand, Pontrjagin, and Andre Weil in a manner accessible to an undergraduate student who has taken linear algebra and introductory real analysis.Highlights of this book include the Bochner integral, the Haar measure, Radon functionals, the theory of Fourier analysis on the circle, and the theory of the discrete Fourier transform. After studying this book, the reader will have the preparation necessary for understanding the Peter-Weyl theorems for complete, separable Hilbert algebras, a key theoretical concept used in the construction of Gelfand pairs and equivariant convolutional neural networks.

Book Linear Algebra And Optimization With Applications To Machine Learning Volume Ii Fundamentals Of Optimization Theory With Applications To Machine Learning

Download or read book Linear Algebra And Optimization With Applications To Machine Learning Volume Ii Fundamentals Of Optimization Theory With Applications To Machine Learning written by Quaintance Jocelyn and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-03-16 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 applies the linear algebra concepts presented in Volume 1 to optimization problems which frequently occur throughout machine learning. This book blends theory with practice by not only carefully discussing the mathematical under pinnings of each optimization technique but by applying these techniques to linear programming, support vector machines (SVM), principal component analysis (PCA), and ridge regression. Volume 2 begins by discussing preliminary concepts of optimization theory such as metric spaces, derivatives, and the Lagrange multiplier technique for finding extrema of real valued functions. The focus then shifts to the special case of optimizing a linear function over a region determined by affine constraints, namely linear programming. Highlights include careful derivations and applications of the simplex algorithm, the dual-simplex algorithm, and the primal-dual algorithm. The theoretical heart of this book is the mathematically rigorous presentation of various nonlinear optimization methods, including but not limited to gradient decent, the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, Lagrangian duality, alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), and the kernel method. These methods are carefully applied to hard margin SVM, soft margin SVM, kernel PCA, ridge regression, lasso regression, and elastic-net regression. Matlab programs implementing these methods are included.

Book Differential Geometry and Lie Groups

Download or read book Differential Geometry and Lie Groups written by Jean Gallier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook explores advanced topics in differential geometry, chosen for their particular relevance to modern geometry processing. Analytic and algebraic perspectives augment core topics, with the authors taking care to motivate each new concept. Whether working toward theoretical or applied questions, readers will appreciate this accessible exploration of the mathematical concepts behind many modern applications. Beginning with an in-depth study of tensors and differential forms, the authors go on to explore a selection of topics that showcase these tools. An analytic theme unites the early chapters, which cover distributions, integration on manifolds and Lie groups, spherical harmonics, and operators on Riemannian manifolds. An exploration of bundles follows, from definitions to connections and curvature in vector bundles, culminating in a glimpse of Pontrjagin and Chern classes. The final chapter on Clifford algebras and Clifford groups draws the book to an algebraic conclusion, which can be seen as a generalized viewpoint of the quaternions. Differential Geometry and Lie Groups: A Second Course captures the mathematical theory needed for advanced study in differential geometry with a view to furthering geometry processing capabilities. Suited to classroom use or independent study, the text will appeal to students and professionals alike. A first course in differential geometry is assumed; the authors’ companion volume Differential Geometry and Lie Groups: A Computational Perspective provides the ideal preparation.

Download or read book Functional Analysis written by Theo Bühler and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2018-08-08 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It begins in Chapter 1 with an introduction to the necessary foundations, including the Arzelà–Ascoli theorem, elementary Hilbert space theory, and the Baire Category Theorem. Chapter 2 develops the three fundamental principles of functional analysis (uniform boundedness, open mapping theorem, Hahn–Banach theorem) and discusses reflexive spaces and the James space. Chapter 3 introduces the weak and weak topologies and includes the theorems of Banach–Alaoglu, Banach–Dieudonné, Eberlein–Šmulyan, Kre&ibreve;n–Milman, as well as an introduction to topological vector spaces and applications to ergodic theory. Chapter 4 is devoted to Fredholm theory. It includes an introduction to the dual operator and to compact operators, and it establishes the closed image theorem. Chapter 5 deals with the spectral theory of bounded linear operators. It introduces complex Banach and Hilbert spaces, the continuous functional calculus for self-adjoint and normal operators, the Gelfand spectrum, spectral measures, cyclic vectors, and the spectral theorem. Chapter 6 introduces unbounded operators and their duals. It establishes the closed image theorem in this setting and extends the functional calculus and spectral measure to unbounded self-adjoint operators on Hilbert spaces. Chapter 7 gives an introduction to strongly continuous semigroups and their infinitesimal generators. It includes foundational results about the dual semigroup and analytic semigroups, an exposition of measurable functions with values in a Banach space, and a discussion of solutions to the inhomogeneous equation and their regularity properties. The appendix establishes the equivalence of the Lemma of Zorn and the Axiom of Choice, and it contains a proof of Tychonoff's theorem. With 10 to 20 elaborate exercises at the end of each chapter, this book can be used as a text for a one-or-two-semester course on functional analysis for beginning graduate students. Prerequisites are first-year analysis and linear algebra, as well as some foundational material from the second-year courses on point set topology, complex analysis in one variable, and measure and integration.

Book Operators on Hilbert Space

Download or read book Operators on Hilbert Space written by V. S. Sunder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primarily objective of the book is to serve as a primer on the theory of bounded linear operators on separable Hilbert space. The book presents the spectral theorem as a statement on the existence of a unique continuous and measurable functional calculus. It discusses a proof without digressing into a course on the Gelfand theory of commutative Banach algebras. The book also introduces the reader to the basic facts concerning the various von Neumann–Schatten ideals, the compact operators, the trace-class operators and all bounded operators.
