It is the occasion in which scholars can illustrate and exchange their activities and innovative proposals, with common aims to promote actions to preserve coastal marine environment. Considering Symposium interdisciplinary nature, the Scientific Committee, underlining this holistic view of Nature, decided to celebrate Alexander von Humboldt; a nature scholar that proposed the organic and inorganic nature’s aspects as a single system. It represents a sign of continuity considering that in-presence Symposium could not be carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Subjects are related to coastal topics: morphology; flora and fauna; energy production; management and integrated protection; geography and landscape, cultural heritage and environmental assets, legal and economic aspects.

Book Coastal Conservation and Management

Download or read book Coastal Conservation and Management written by J. Pat Doody and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal Conservation and Management provides the reader with a synthesis of the range and variation of the main coastal formations and includes practical guidance on their management. The book discusses all the main coastal habitats of importance for nature conservation (saltmarsh, shingle, sand dune and seacliff) as well as combinations of these habitats (estuaries and other coastal wetlands). It offers a comprehensive picture of both the soft sedimentary formations and those which are more resilient. While these habitats have all been covered elsewhere in the literature, no single volume gives such a wide-ranging account. An attempt is made throughout to provide the reader with a basic understanding of the importance and range of variation of each habitat and coastal ecosystem. The principal issues are discussed and the key management options identified. Some prescriptive suggestions are made, though for the most part, the reader is left to ponder the issues and their possible solutions.

Book Black Sea In Crisis The Symposium Ii An Encounter Of Beliefs A Single Objective

Download or read book Black Sea In Crisis The Symposium Ii An Encounter Of Beliefs A Single Objective written by Sarah Hobson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-01-25 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a record of the proceedings of a remarkable symposium that took place on the Black Sea in September 1997. It was held under the auspices of The Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, and His Excellency Mr Jacques Santer, President of the European Commission. It was the second in a series of symposia on the theme of 'Religion, Science and the Environment'. The first symposium, entitled 'Revelation and the Environment', took place on the Aegean Sea in 1995, to celebrate the 1,900th anniversary of the Book of the Apocalypse.Over a period of ten days, more than 400 distinguished scientists, environmentalists, religious leaders and policy-makers from 35 countries discussed the environmental problems facing the Black Sea — a unique environment, sadly degraded by the imprint of humankind and causing profound changes in the economy and life-style of the 160 million people in the area. The book offers ideas to help restore the environmental balance of this much-threatened region. At the same time, it looks at the Black Sea as a paradigm for the world's closed sea problems and demonstrates the value and potential of an integrated approach to global environmental stewardship.

Book European Landscape Dynamics

Download or read book European Landscape Dynamics written by Jan Feranec and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four unique pan-European CORINE Land Cover datasets—CLC1990, CLC2000, CLC2006, and CLC2012— and three datasets concerning changes between 1990 and 2012 have presented the first-ever opportunity to observe the European landscape by means of land cover and its change. This book brings together all these datasets to demonstrate the methods of identification, analysis and assessment of the European land cover and its changes that took place during the intervals of 1990–2000, 2000–2006, and 2006–2012. It provides examples in which CLC data plays a role in offering solutions to European environmental problems such as the monitoring of urban dynamics, land fragmentation, ecosystems mapping and assessment, and high nature value farmland characteristics. Existing environmental problems require new approaches, and European Landscape Dynamics: CORINE Land Cover Data indicates a set of outlooks for CLC data generation that produce more detailed levels of analysis and bottom-up approaches while addressing the relationship of CLC data to the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE). It also discusses the future of CLC data generation. A valuable resource of up-to-date information, it is useful to professionals such as scientists, territorial planners, and environmentalists as well as students of geosciences and all those who are interested in cognition of the European landscape, its changes and development.
