Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) describes the general operating principles of demand oxygen equipment, including variant types such as diluter-demand and pressure breathing equipment. The sources of oxygen supply that can be used in connection with a demand oxygen mask are in principle the same as those used for other oxygen dispensing devices. Except for mention of a few features specifically related to demand equipment, this document does not discuss oxygen sources in detail and the reader is advised to consult other applicable documents that describe the operation of oxygen sources for additional information. AIR825/9 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE Five-Year Review policy.

Book Regulation of Tissue Oxygenation Second Edition

Download or read book Regulation of Tissue Oxygenation Second Edition written by Roland N. Pittman and published by Biota Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-18 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This presentation describes various aspects of the regulation of tissue oxygenation, including the roles of the circulatory system, respiratory system, and blood, the carrier of oxygen within these components of the cardiorespiratory system. The respiratory system takes oxygen from the atmosphere and transports it by diffusion from the air in the alveoli to the blood flowing through the pulmonary capillaries. The cardiovascular system then moves the oxygenated blood from the heart to the microcirculation of the various organs by convection, where oxygen is released from hemoglobin in the red blood cells and moves to the parenchymal cells of each tissue by diffusion. Oxygen that has diffused into cells is then utilized in the mitochondria to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of all cells. The mitochondria are able to produce ATP until the oxygen tension or PO2 on the cell surface falls to a critical level of about 4–5 mm Hg. Thus, in order to meet the energetic needs of cells, it is important to maintain a continuous supply of oxygen to the mitochondria at or above the critical PO2 . In order to accomplish this desired outcome, the cardiorespiratory system, including the blood, must be capable of regulation to ensure survival of all tissues under a wide range of circumstances. The purpose of this presentation is to provide basic information about the operation and regulation of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, as well as the properties of the blood and parenchymal cells, so that a fundamental understanding of the regulation of tissue oxygenation is achieved.

Book Oxygen Equipment for Aircraft

Download or read book Oxygen Equipment for Aircraft written by A-10 Aircraft Oxygen Equipment Committee and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information on the design and use of aircraft oxygen systems. It explains the physiological oxygen requirements of the human body in both a normal environment and in an hypoxic environment. It includes an overview of the continuous flow, demand and pressure demand, and liquid oxygen systems. A basic understanding of how each system operates is then specifically addressed in its own titled section. The charts, tables, and schematics provide a specific example of a theoretical oxygen system design and the calculations showing how that system would meet the regulations established by the FAR's. A comprehensive overview of the theoretical oxygen requirements of the human body at altitude is also provided.A detailed list of specifications and standards applicable to aircraft oxygen systems is included. AIR825C is a comprehensive document covering general information on the various types of oxygen equipment and oxygen systems used on aircraft including basic system design information. These requirements and more are covered in greater individual detail by other SAE documents in an AIR825/1 through AIR825/14 document series.
