Book excerpt: Christian women have allowed shame to condemn and confine them for far too long. If you’re ready to turn things around, Aubrey Sampson—a pastor’s wife, and an advocate for at-risk women—invites you to become an unashamed woman. Using the model of a house, “Sampson identifies eight major lies of shame such as: I’ll have more value when I change; I cannot experience freedom from shame; My past is unsalvageable; and Shame is only traumatic. Written with a strong biblical theology and humorous authenticity, as well as true-life stories shared by women of all ages, Sampson equips readers with tools for an ongoing spiritual discipline of “shamelessness.” Sampson deals directly with the shame that comes from comical moments in life, as well as from sexual abuse, eating disorders, addiction, abandonment, and other real-life issues. She also encourages women to transform their life’s story into ministry, creating ripple effects of hope and healing that can change the world. Written for any woman whose self-worth has been stolen, Overcomer gives her the courage, in Jesus, to reclaim it.

Book Restoring the Kingdom

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael A. Salmeier
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2011-07-01
  • ISBN : 1498270883
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Restoring the Kingdom written by Michael A. Salmeier and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-07-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book of Acts divine involvement is everywhere. From the beginning God is responsible for promised action, including the geographic expansion--"in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (1:7)--referenced in Jesus' response to the disciples, clearly related to Luke's purpose in writing the book. Geographic expansion, however, is only the second part of Jesus' reply. Is it possible that the first half of Jesus' reply--"It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority"--has even greater bearing on the actions that follow and on Luke's purpose? Is the Father setting times and seasons related to the kingdom's establishment? Does this phrase explain the conspicuous divine involvement throughout the plot? In Restoring the Kingdom, Michael Salmeier answers these questions in the affirmative by exploring Luke's characterization of God in three strands: God as the King who establishes and restores Israel's king, who establishes his people, and who directs events. This unfolds Luke's purpose in assuring the reader concerning the events that have taken place, helping to more fully illuminate Luke's theology concerning God and his kingdom.

Book Handbook of Catholic Dogmatics 5 2

Download or read book Handbook of Catholic Dogmatics 5 2 written by Matthias Joseph Scheeben and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2021-02-15 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Handbook of Catholic Dogmatics, Book V, Soteriology Part 2 the nineteenth-century German dogmatician Matthias Joseph Scheeben turns to an in-depth study of Christ’s redemptive deed. He begins this work with an exploration of the prerequisites for the Incarnate Word’s redemptive efficacy—his personal/capital grace and resultant perfections of intellect and will. Scheeben then examines the various states or mysteries of Christ’s life as well as the efficacy proper to his redemptive deed, by which the God-man restores and superabundantly perfects the supernatural order ruined by the first human sin. In this connection, Scheeben also includes his Mariology in this volume precisely insofar as Mary is the mother of the Redeemer. Located here in his Dogmatics, the figure of Mary thus serves as the point of departure for his planned treatment of the grace of Christ in its ecclesial mediation.

Book The Role of Jewish Feasts in John s Gospel

Download or read book The Role of Jewish Feasts in John s Gospel written by Gerry Wheaton and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first three Gospels, Jesus rarely travels to Jerusalem prior to his final week. The Fourth Gospel, however, features Jesus' repeated visits to the city, which occur primarily during major festivals. This volume elucidates the role of the Jewish feasts of Passover, Tabernacles, and Dedication in John's presentation of Jesus. Gerry Wheaton examines the Gospel in relation to pertinent sources from the Second Temple and Rabbinic periods, offering a fresh understanding of how John appropriates the symbolic and traditional backgrounds of these feasts. Wheaton situates his inquiry within the larger question of Judaism in John's Gospel, which many consider to be the most anti-Semitic New Testament text. The findings of this study significantly contribute to the ongoing debate surrounding the alleged anti-Jewish posture of the Gospel as a whole, and it offers new insights that will appeal to scholars of Johannine theology, New Testament studies, and Jewish studies.

Book Old Testament Theology

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Goldingay
  • Publisher : InterVarsity Press
  • Release : 2010-02-09
  • ISBN : 0830879234
  • Pages : 917 pages

Download or read book Old Testament Theology written by John Goldingay and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third volume of his critically acclaimed Old Testament Theology John Goldingay explores the Old Testament vision of Israel's life before God. The first volume focused on the story of God's dealings with Israel, or Israel's gospel. The second volume investigated the beliefs of Israel, or Israel's faith. Now the spotlight falls on the Old Testament's perspective on the life that Israel should live in its present and future, including its worship, prayer and spirituality, as well as its practices, attitudes and ethics before God. Goldingay sees three spheres of life giving order to Israel's vision: its life in relation to God, its life in community and the life of the individual as a self. Within these frameworks he unfurls a tapestry that is as broad and colorful as all of life, and yet detailed in its intricate attention to the text. With this final volume John Goldingay has given us the third pillar of an Old Testament theology that is monumental in scope and yet invites us to enter through multiple doors to explore its riches. Students will profit from a semester in its courts, and ministers of the Word will find their preaching and teaching deeply enriched by wandering its halls and meditating in its chambers.
