The book is also rich with case examples, both hypothetical and real-life, to demonstrate how to implement the Five P Model in practice, and apply it to various ethical dilemmas. Among the key topics discussed: How to address ethical problems posed by Internet counseling, such as authenticating identity, securing confidentiality, and intervening in a crisis Death competence on the part of the counselor and how the counselor's own experience of grieving can inform counseling practice Guidance on how to report a colleague or face a complaint How to meet ethical obligations towards clients when moving or closing a practice

Book Good Pastors Bad Pastors

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dela Quampah
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2014-08-20
  • ISBN : 162564051X
  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book Good Pastors Bad Pastors written by Dela Quampah and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of Pentecostalism in Ghana has attracted a massive following and generated institutions that have significantly impacted Christian discourse and national life. The movement has produced prominent leaders who have developed exemplary Christian education programs and generated volumes of Christian literature unprecedented in Ghanaian Christianity. Nevertheless, public opinion often upbraids church leaders for unethical conduct. Despite the concern for high moral standards set by Pentecostal church polity and ministerial ethical codes, reports of Pentecostal ministerial misconduct appear regularly in the media. Although congregation members and perceptive public observers appreciate the constructive moral impact of Pentecostal ministers, instances of promiscuity, power abuse, financial misappropriation, and superstition reveal a gap between ethical ideals and practice. As this research reveals, factors behind unethical ministerial conduct include inadequate training, poor accountability, and a general low level of ethical reflection. Good Pastors, Bad Pastors suggests that a multidimensional approach of responsible reportage, emphatic moral education, appropriate but sympathetic response to moral failure, and peer-review accountability could help uphold a higher standard of ministerial ethics.

Book Incapacitation

  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2016-05-23
  • ISBN : 1317117662
  • Pages : 275 pages

Download or read book Incapacitation written by Marijke Malsch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many criminal justice systems a new trend towards incapacitation can be witnessed. A ubiquitous want for control seems to have emerged as a consequence of perceived safety risks. This can be seen not only in the mass incarceration of offenders but also in the disqualification of offenders from jobs, in chemical castration in cases of sexual crimes, the increased use of electronic monitoring and in the life-long monitoring of individuals who pose certain risks. Trends towards incapacitation are now even spreading to public administration and the employment sector, in the refusal of licenses and the rejection of employees with past criminal records. This book discusses the topic of incapacitation from various angles and perspectives. It explores how theories of punishment are affected by the more recent emphasis on incapacitation and how criminal justice practice is changing as a consequence of this new emphasis. Many contributors express criticisms with this trend towards incapacitation. They argue for a better calibration of measures to the severity of the misconduct. In addressing an increasingly important development in criminal justice, the book will be an essential resource for students, researchers, and policy-makers working in the areas of criminal law, sentencing, probation and crime prevention.
