Download or read book Classification of Offenders as an Aid to Efficient Management and Effective Treatment written by Marguerite Q. Warren and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alternative classification typologies are described and illustrated with a number of clinical and research studies. A cross-tabulation of sixteen typological systems was presented and six cross-classification bands were identified. The six bands or offender subtypes were entitled - asocial, conformist, antisocial-manipulator, neurotic, subcultural-identifier and situational offender. It was pointed out that the consistency in the data of several typological studies which made the cross classification possible is an encouraging sign. In asking whether a typological consensus has any programmatic utility at the present time, current interest among practitioners in developing differential treatment strategies for various types of offenders was noted. It was suggested that it may be possible in the near future to make differential diagnoses of large populations, and to simplify the training of correctional workers by teaching management and treatment specialties rather than the entire range of correctional techniques. The use of differential diagnosis in decision-making along the correctional continuum and its potential value as a treatment-unifying influence was discussed. (Oringinally published as an article in the Journal Of Criminal Law, Criminology and Police Science, v. 62, n. 1, 1971, p. 239-258.).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Volume XIX of a series of nineteen on Abnormal and Clinical Psychology. Originally published in 1932, this study looks at practical applications and bio-physiological foundations of Kretschmer’s types. This work has two main aims: First: To apply the clinically originated constitution psychological typology of Kretschmer (with the extensions of Delbriick, Pfahler, etc.) to male juvenile delinquents. Secondly, to co-ordinate—as far as it was possible within the specialized framework—the bio-typologies of Kretschmer, Jaensch, Pende, Berman, Wiersma, etc., in so far as there appears to be similarity between the underlying biological principles of these typologies and those of Kretschmer’s typology.
Download or read book The Parents Perspective written by Paul Lerman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-08 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1995, this book describes and analyzes the way urban parents view the problems of their adolescent children, and the way they have tried to cope with and seek help for them. Based on the study of parents as third-party help-seekers in and around Newark, New Jersey, the book sheds light on the types of problems experienced by adolescents in similar communities throughout the country. By focusing on the parents, who usually bring the youth into the legal or mental health system, this book provides numerous unique insights into the nature of problems among urban youths. It describes how certain legal and psychological problems often coexist, examines the reasons for this, and shows how this knowledge can be used to improve the delivery of youth and family services.

Download or read book Task Force Report Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Crime written by United States. Task Force on Juvenile Delinquency and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A socio-economic analysis of juvenile delinquency that is critical of society's approach to juvenile crime responds with recommendations and principles for change. Efforts to modernize the juvenile court system and the general attitude of the public sector toward youth crime are discussed. To teach the youthful offenders involvement in community life, the public and private sectors of the population must respond to youthful needs. Emphasis is placed on the following areas for changes in attitude and approach of responsible individuals - public officials, community and social agencies, teachers, and potential employers. Greatest emphasis is placed on juvenile justice system personnel ranging from the police to the judge. The Gault decision is discussed as a viable vehicle for giving perspective to future programs and priorities. That a revitalized juvenile court system is needed is a logical conclusion.

Download or read book Behavioral Approaches to Crime and Delinquency written by Edward K. Morris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The systematic application of behavioral psychology to crime and delinquency was begun only 20 years ago, yet it has already contributed significantly to our practical knowledge about prevention and correction and to our general under standing of a pressing social problem. In this handbook, we review and evalu ate what has been accomplished to date, as well as what is currently at the leading edge of the field. We do so in order to present a clear, comprehensive, and systematic view of the field and to promote and encourage still more effective action and social policy reform in the future. The chapters in this text have been written by professionals who were among the original innovators in applying behavioral psychology to crime and delinquency and who continue to make critical contributions to the field's progress, and by a new generation of energetic, young professionals who are taking the field in important and innovative directions. The contributors have attempted to review and evaluate their areas with critical dispassion, to pro vide thorough but not overly specialized discussion of their material, and to draw implications for how research, application, and social policy might be improved in the future. For our part as editors, we have tried to foster integra tion across the chapters and to provide background and conceptual material of our own.
Download or read book Causes of Delinquency written by Travis Hirschi and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Causes of Delinquency, Hirschi attempts to state and test a theory of delinquency, seeing in the delinquent a person relatively free of the intimate attachments, the aspirations, and the moral beliefs that bind most people to a life within the law. In prominent alternative theories, the delinquent appears either as a frustrated striver forced into delinquency by his acceptance of the goals common to us all, or as an innocent foreigner attempting to obey the rules of a society that is not in position to make the law or define conduct as good or evil. Hirschi analyzes a large body of data on delinquency collected in Western Contra Costa County, California, contrasting throughout the assumptions of the strain, control, and cultural deviance theories. He outlines the assumptions of these theories and discusses the logical and empirical difficulties attributed to each of them. Then draws from sources an outline of social control theory, the theory that informs the subsequent analysis and which is advocated here. Often listed as a "Citation Classic," Causes of Delinquency retains its force and cogency with age. It is an important volume and a necessary addition to the libraries of sociologists, criminologists, scholars and students in the area of delinquency.
