Book Introduction to Asynchronous Circuit Design

Download or read book Introduction to Asynchronous Circuit Design written by Jens Sparsø and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the design of asynchronous circuits. It is an updated and significantly extended version of an eight-chapter tutorial that first appeared as Part I in the book "Principles of asynchronous circuit design -- A systems perspective" edited by Sparsø and Furber (2001); a book that has become a standard reference on the topic. The extensions include improved coverage of data-flow components, a new chapter on two-phase bundled-data circuits, a new chapter on metastability, arbitration, and synchronization, and a new chapter on performance analysis using timed Petri nets. With these extensions, the text now provides a more complete coverage of the topic, and it is now made available as a stand-alone book. The book is a beginner's text and the amount of formal notation is deliberately kept at a minimum, using instead plain English and graphical illustrations to explain the underlying intuition and reasoning behind the concepts and methods covered. The book targets senior undergraduate and graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering and industrial designers with a background in conventional (clocked) digital design who wish to gain an understanding of asynchronous circuit design.

Book Asynchronous Circuit Design

Download or read book Asynchronous Circuit Design written by Chris J. Myers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-04-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With asynchronous circuit design becoming a powerful tool in thedevelopment of new digital systems, circuit designers are expectedto have asynchronous design skills and be able to leverage them toreduce power consumption and increase system speed. This book walksreaders through all of the different methodologies of asynchronouscircuit design, emphasizing practical techniques and real-worldapplications instead of theoretical simulation. The only guide ofits kind, it also features an ftp site complete with supportmaterials. Market: Electrical Engineers, Computer Scientists, DeviceDesigners, and Developers in industry. An Instructor Support FTP site is available from the Wileyeditorial department.

Book Time to Digital Converters

Download or read book Time to Digital Converters written by Stephan Henzler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro-electronics and so integrated circuit design are heavily driven by technology scaling. The main engine of scaling is an increased system performance at reduced manufacturing cost (per system). In most systems digital circuits dominate with respect to die area and functional complexity. Digital building blocks take full - vantage of reduced device geometries in terms of area, power per functionality, and switching speed. On the other hand, analog circuits rely not on the fast transition speed between a few discrete states but fairly on the actual shape of the trans- tor characteristic. Technology scaling continuously degrades these characteristics with respect to analog performance parameters like output resistance or intrinsic gain. Below the 100 nm technology node the design of analog and mixed-signal circuits becomes perceptibly more dif cult. This is particularly true for low supply voltages near to 1V or below. The result is not only an increased design effort but also a growing power consumption. The area shrinks considerably less than p- dicted by the digital scaling factor. Obviously, both effects are contradictory to the original goal of scaling. However, digital circuits become faster, smaller, and less power hungry. The fast switching transitions reduce the susceptibility to noise, e. g. icker noise in the transistors. There are also a few drawbacks like the generation of power supply noise or the lack of power supply rejection.

Book Dependable Embedded Systems

Download or read book Dependable Embedded Systems written by Jörg Henkel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-09 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open Access book introduces readers to many new techniques for enhancing and optimizing reliability in embedded systems, which have emerged particularly within the last five years. This book introduces the most prominent reliability concerns from today’s points of view and roughly recapitulates the progress in the community so far. Unlike other books that focus on a single abstraction level such circuit level or system level alone, the focus of this book is to deal with the different reliability challenges across different levels starting from the physical level all the way to the system level (cross-layer approaches). The book aims at demonstrating how new hardware/software co-design solution can be proposed to ef-fectively mitigate reliability degradation such as transistor aging, processor variation, temperature effects, soft errors, etc. Provides readers with latest insights into novel, cross-layer methods and models with respect to dependability of embedded systems; Describes cross-layer approaches that can leverage reliability through techniques that are pro-actively designed with respect to techniques at other layers; Explains run-time adaptation and concepts/means of self-organization, in order to achieve error resiliency in complex, future many core systems.

Book Static Timing Analysis for Nanometer Designs

Download or read book Static Timing Analysis for Nanometer Designs written by J. Bhasker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-03 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: iming, timing, timing! That is the main concern of a digital designer charged with designing a semiconductor chip. What is it, how is it T described, and how does one verify it? The design team of a large digital design may spend months architecting and iterating the design to achieve the required timing target. Besides functional verification, the t- ing closure is the major milestone which dictates when a chip can be - leased to the semiconductor foundry for fabrication. This book addresses the timing verification using static timing analysis for nanometer designs. The book has originated from many years of our working in the area of timing verification for complex nanometer designs. We have come across many design engineers trying to learn the background and various aspects of static timing analysis. Unfortunately, there is no book currently ava- able that can be used by a working engineer to get acquainted with the - tails of static timing analysis. The chip designers lack a central reference for information on timing, that covers the basics to the advanced timing veri- cation procedures and techniques.
