Download or read book Une Degustation Topologique Homotopy Theory in the Swiss Alps written by Dominique Arlettaz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The talks given at the Arolla Conference on Algebraic Topology covered a broad spectrum of current research in homotopy theory, offering participants the possibility to sample and relish selected morsels of homotopy theory, much as a participant in a wine tasting partakes of a variety of fine wines. True to the spirit of the conference, the proceedings included in this volume present a savory sampler of homotopical delicacies. Readers will find within these pages a compilation of articles describing current research in the area, including classical stable and unstable homotopy theory, configuration spaces, group cohomology, K-theory, localization, p-compact groups, and simplicial theory.

Download or read book The Taste of Wine written by Emile Peynaud and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1996-10-14 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emile Peynaud's Le Gout du Vin has long been considered the definitive book on winetasting by professional tasters. Now, this new English language second edition makes his timeless classic truly accessible to a new generation of American readers. The Taste of Wine is Peynaud's complete examination of the science and practice of winetasting, with detailed treatment of the senses and how they function, tasting techniques and problems, wine balance and quality, winetasting vocabulary, training, and the art of drinking. A brilliant synthesis of the Bordeaux and Burgundy/Beaujolais schools of tasting, Peynaud's unique method combines the subjective description of wine with well-established scientific principles--forming an approach which is definitive, comprehensive, and free of esoteric jargon. With a foreword by Michael Broadbent, this edition features Michael Schuster's excellent translation, which retains all of the wit and sparkle of the original while remaining faithful to Peynaud's precise vocabulary. The text is beautifully complemented by a carefully selected range of illustrations and full-color photographs, which give full expression to the principles and spirit of the book. As vital to increasing our understanding of winetasting as it is to enhancing our appreciation of wine, The Taste of Wine will be savored by professionals and amateurs for generations to come. This English translation of Emile Peynaud's Le Gout du Vin brings a new edition of this classic French work to an American audience for the first time. Erudite yet accessible, as beautifully written as it is scientifically documented, The Taste of Wine is, quite simply, the complete guide to the science and practice of winetasting. Covering all of the essential elements of the subject, from the physiology and experience of the senses to tasting techniques, vocabulary, training, and quality assessment, Peynaud's singular approach is a masterful combination of the empirical and statistical styles of winetasting--a blend as distinctive and enduring as wine itself. Whether you are an oenologist, wine producer, wine merchant, restaurateur, or informed consumer, The Taste of Wine is now yours to enjoy . . .

Download or read book Project Based Second and Foreign Language Education written by Gulbahar H. Beckett and published by IAP. This book was released on 2006-09-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dewey's idea of Project-based Learning (PBL) was introduced into the field of second language education nearly two decades ago as a way to reflect the principles of student-centered teaching (Hedge, 1993). Since then, PBL has also become a popular language and literacy activity at various levels and in various contexts (see Beckett, 1999; Fried-Booth, 2002; Levis & Levis, 2003; Kobayashi, 2003; Luongo- Orlando, 2001; Mohan & Beckett, 2003; Weinstein, 2004). For example, it has been applied to teach various ESL and EFL skills around the world (e.g., Fried-Booth, 2002). More recently, PBL has been heralded as the most appropriate approach to teaching content-based second language education (Bunch, et al., 2001; Stoller, 1997), English for specific purposes (Fried-Booth, 2002), community-based language socialization (Weinstien, 2004), and critical and higher order thinking as well as problem-solving skills urged by the National Research Council (1999). Despite this emphasis, there is a severe shortage of empirical research on PBL and research-based frameworks and models based on sound theoretical guidance in general and second and foreign language education in particular (Thomas, 2000). Also missing from the second and foreign language education literature is systematic discussion of PBL work that brings together representative work, identifying obvious gaps, and guiding the field toward future directions. This, first of its kind, volume bridges these obvious gaps through the original work of international scholars from Canada, Israel, Japan, Singapore, and the US.

Gehry and Norman Foster. ? A unique gift for the wine connoisseur and design devotee alike ? A compelling look at all the design elements that make up the world's most beautiful wineries
Download or read book Charlie Trotter written by Chicago Tribune Staff and published by Agate Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05-03 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bursting onto the Chicago fine-dining scene in 1987, Charlie Trotter's restaurant soon became a local icon and eventually a national landmark. From his initial rise to culinary stardom to his untimely death in November 2013, Charlie Trotter was one of Chicago's most distinguished and high-profile chefs. Trotter, more than any of his peers, ushered in a new type of dining experience—the "New American" gourmet cuisine that has proliferated across the country—by never offering the same menu twice, and creating multi-course meals from scratch each day using boutique ingredients, including a rare all-vegetable degustation. Drawn from 26 years of Chicago Tribune articles, profiles, and reviews, Charlie Trotter offers a comprehensive account of the restaurant that put Chicago at the center of the American culinary world and chronicles the events and tributes surrounding Trotter's decision to close his eponymous restaurant in 2012. Employing both the fine-tooth comb of local journalism and the acerbic wit of high-stakes restaurant criticism, Charlie Trotter gives readers an intimate portrayal of the lightning-rod figure who for years was synonymous with Chicago fine dining, revealing the inner workings of both the man and his landmark restaurant.
Download or read book Sensory Experiences written by Danièle Dubois and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensory Experiences: Exploring meaning and the senses describes the collective elaboration of a situated cognitive approach with an emphasis on the relations between language and cognition within and across different sensory modalities and practices. This approach, grounded in 40 years of empirical research, is a departure from the analytic, reductive view of human experiences as information processing. The book is structured into two parts. Each author first introduces the situated cognitive approach from their respective sensory domains (vision, audition, olfaction, gustation). The second part is the collective effort to derive methodological guidelines respecting the ecological validity of experimental investigations while formulating operational answers to applied questions (such as the sensory quality of environments and product design). This book will be of interest to students, researchers and practitioners dealing with sensory experiences and anyone who wants to understand and celebrate the cultural diversity of human productions that make life enjoyable!
