Book Defending the Faith in the Last Days

Download or read book Defending the Faith in the Last Days written by John G. Leslie and published by . This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of religion, philosophy, and science and the inter-relationship of each is integral to how we develop our view of life. God uses each of these domains to teach us about our triune nature: spirit, soul, and body. As we are fallen from His origin design for us, He desires to interact with us at every level of our being, and to re-mold us more into the image of Jesus Christ. This book discusses some of the ways that God does this and contrasts these to the ways and views of non-Christian worldviews and systems.

Book Defending the Faith

Download or read book Defending the Faith written by Mary Jo Sharp and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women want answers! A busy twenty-first century woman who has not taken the time to think through exactly what she believes about God, even why she believes in God, tends to live as a practical atheist. Today's Christian woman needs the transformation that having a reasoned belief in the reality of God's existence can bring, the intellectual confidence that will empower her to speak boldly on faith issues, with love and self-control. It's not that women need different or special apologetics arguments; they simply need to be encouraged and instructed in the importance of apologetics in their daily lives. Women who are exposed to apologetics find themselves energized and excited about sharing their faith with family, friends, and coworkers. Popular apologist Mary Jo Sharp issues a personal challenge for sisters in Christ to approach their faith on an intellectual level, along with a compelling call for women's ministries to help women love God with their minds by incorporating apologetics into their programs.

Book I Don t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist

Download or read book I Don t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist written by Norman L. Geisler and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2021-05-17 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To some, the concept of having faith in a higher power or a set of religious beliefs is nonsensical. Indeed, many view religion in general, and Christianity in particular, as unfounded and unreasonable. Norman Geisler and Frank Turek argue, however, that Christianity is not only more reasonable than all other belief systems, but is indeed more rational than unbelief itself. With conviction and clear thinking, Geisler and Turek guide readers through some of the traditional, tested arguments for the existence of a creator God. They move into an examination of the source of morality and the reliability of the New Testament accounts concerning Jesus. The final section of the book deals with a detailed investigation of the claims of Christ. This volume will be an interesting read for those skeptical about Christianity, as well as a helpful resource for Christians seeking to articulate a more sophisticated defense of their faith.

The battle for truth cannot be won apart from destroying the false presuppositions held by those who reject the gospel.

Book In Defense of Faith

Download or read book In Defense of Faith written by David Brog and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religious faith is under assault. In books and movies and on television, militant secular critics attack religion with a renewed vigor. These “new atheists” repeat a two-part mantra: that religious faith is hopelessly irrational and that those possessed of such faith are responsible for the hatred and bloodshed that has plagued humanity. Abandon religion, they urge us, and the world will at last live in peace. In Defense of Faith examines this proposition in the context of Western civilization and the Judeo-Christian tradition and asserts that, far from encouraging hatred and violence, the Judeo-Christian tradition has easily been the most effective curb upon the dark defects of human nature and our best tool in the struggle for humanity. From the Christian activists who fought to stop the genocide of Indians in South America and their ethnic cleansing in North America, to the abolition of African slavery on both sides of the Atlantic, and on to modern human rights activists from Martin Luther King Jr. to the rock star Bono—In Defense of Faith rebuts the fashionable arguments against religion and presents the strong and lasting record of the Judeo-Christian idea. History has not been as kind to the atheist model: every time it is put to the test, we have reverted to the most base, violent instincts of our selfish genes.

Book The Allure of Gentleness

Download or read book The Allure of Gentleness written by Dallas Willard and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revered Christian author whose bestselling classics include The Divine Conspiracy and The Spirit of the Disciplines provides a new model for how we can present the Christian faith to others. When Christians share their faith, they often appeal to reason, logic, and the truth of doctrine. But these tactics often are not effective. A better approach to spread Christ’s word, Dallas Willard suggests, is to use the example of our own lives. To demonstrate Jesus’s message, we must be transformed people living out a life reflective of Jesus himself, a life of love, humility, and gentleness. This beautiful model of life—this allure of gentleness—Willard argues, is the foundation for making the most compelling argument for Christianity, one that will convince others that there is something special about Christianity and the Jesus we follow.

Book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason

Download or read book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason written by Jason Lisle and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You can’t trust the Bible — it’s full of hundreds of contradictions.” Really? Just because the critic mindlessly declares it so? Don’t be so fast to believe everything you hear! In this book Dr. Jason Lisle examines 420 claims of Bible contradictions and sets the record straight. Contradiction #139 Was Abraham justified by faith or by works? Romans 4:2 - says by faith VS. James 2:21 - says by works Bifurcation fallacy. Abraham was justified both by faith and by works (James 2:24, 26). To “justify” means either to be in right moral standing or to show that one is (morally) in right standing. Abraham was justified by faith before God since God knows all things — including Abraham’s faith (James 2:23). God sees our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7), so we are justified before God by our faith alone, which God can see. But men cannot see another man’s faith. They only see the outward works that follow from inward faith. Therefore, Abraham was justified before men by the works that followed from his faith, since men cannot see faith but can see works. James explicitly teaches this (James 2:18–26).

Book Humble Apologetics

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Gordon Stackhouse
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2006
  • ISBN : 0195307178
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Humble Apologetics written by John Gordon Stackhouse and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publisher description: Is it still possible, in an age of religious and cultural pluralism, to engage in Christian apologetics? How can one urge one's faith on others when such a gesture is typically regarded with suspicion, if not outright resentment? In Humble Apologetics John G. Stackhouse brings his wide experience as a historian, philosopher, journalist, and theologian to these important questions and offers surprising--and reassuring--answers. Stackhouse begins by acknowledging the real impediments to Christian testimony in North America today and to other faiths in modern societies around the world. He shows how pluralism, postmodernism, skepticism about our ability to know the truth, and a host of other factors create a cultural milieu resistant to the Christian message. And he shows how the arrogance or dogmatism of apologists themselves can alienate rather than attract potential converts. Indeed, Stackhouse argues that the crucial experience of conversion cannot be compelled; all the apologist can do is lead another to the point where an actual encounter with Jesus can take place. "Our objective," Stackhouse writes, "is to offer whatever assistance we can to our neighbors toward their full maturity: toward full health in themselves and in their relationships, and especially toward God." In the last part of the book, he shows how an attitude of humility, instead of merely trying to win religious arguments, will help believers offer their neighbors the gift of Christ's love. Drawing on the author's personal experience and written with an engaging directness and humility, Humble Apologetics provides sound guidance on how to share Christian faith in a postmodern world.

Book Is This Still That

  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book Is This Still That written by Jonathan Sargent and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost caused quite a commotion: 120 believers speaking in tongues, every foreigner hearing the wonderful works of God in their native language, and 3,000 people saved! The Church was birthed, and the Holy Ghost was poured into the followers of Christ. On that day, there were those who were amazed and questioned, "What does this mean?" Likewise, there were those who mocked them, saying, "These men are full of new wine." But Simon Peter, in his inaugural address to the Church, silenced the critics with the words of the Old Testament prophet, "But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh." Peter proclaims, "This is that!" This is what Joel prophesied was coming nine hundred years ago. The question we face is this: "Is this still that?" The Church was birthed with signs and miracles following them. Was that for only them? Has there really been a cessation of gifts? Is it still for us two thousand years later? This book, Is This Still That? Defending the Pentecostal Faith, attempts to answer the following questions: Is there a continuation of signs and wonders? Where did the Church begin moving away from the supernatural power of the Spirit, and how did they get it back? How does one receive the baptism in the Holy Ghost? What is it that the Pentecostal/Charismatic Church is guilty of that makes people doubt our message?
