Book Deep Spirit Great Heart

Download or read book Deep Spirit Great Heart written by Louis Silverstein and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2002-04-02 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A first-person account, of thoughtful, healing and provocative excursions into the material and spiritual realms of existence while under the influence of cannabis sativa. Captured in words by Ganja and given to Louis to be the journal keeper, we read of journeys into the positive use, as contrasted to abuse, of a gift bestowed upon humans by the gods. Be it described as a plant teacher or a weed, marijuana has been used across cultures throughout the ages to reveal multiple realms of consciousness, and to introduce new ways of being to those who have come to respect its powers and accord marijuana the reverence it deserves in order to unleash its full potential to make of life a rapturous experience.

Journal entries that tell of a joyous daily existence, awareness of eternal truths, sexual ecstasy and spiritual enlightenment are to be found within the pages of this book as we read of Ganja´s travels into the land of "Deep Spirit and Great Heart," where we come to realize that heaven is not a place, but a state of consciousness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-compassion. Positive social relations. An enduring sense of freedom and peace. They're essential parts of our everyday lives, or should be. But each of us struggles with difficult emotions and mental blockages: we might lash out when we should know better, or regress in negatively familiar situations, or struggle with our confidence. These types of problematic reactions occur--and recur--when we're unkind to and negligent of our inner selves. The Great Heart Way offers us all a way to heal inner wounds and transform our difficult emotions. Anyone can try it, and everyone should. Using clear language and personal anecdotes, The Great Heart Way shows how to follow the Great Heart Method, an efficacious program for healing and self-fulfillment. The Method is easily incorporated into busy schedules (it can take less than 30 minutes per day), and is accessible to all, regardless of spiritual background. The Great Heart Way gives readers the tools to safely work through uncovered emotional pain and establish a healthier, happier and well-balanced way of thinking.

Book Radical Spiritual Motherhood

Download or read book Radical Spiritual Motherhood written by Rosetta R. Haynes and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this cutting-edge work, Rosetta R. Haynes explores the spiritual autobiographies of five nineteenth-century female African American itinerant preachers to discover the ways in which they drew upon religion and the material conditions of their lives to fashion powerful personas that enabled them to pursue their missions as divinely appointed religious leaders. Haynes examines the lives and narratives of Jarena Lee (1783--?), Zilpha Elaw (c. 1790--?), Julia Foote (1823--1900), Amanda Berry Smith (1837--1915), and Rebecca Cox Jackson (1795--1871) through an innovative conceptual framework Haynes terms "radical spiritual motherhood" -- an empowering identity deriving from the experience of "sanctification," a kind of spiritual perfection following conversion. Drawing upon conventional nineteenth-century standards for motherhood, radical spiritual motherhood also challenges traditional standards: These were women whose religious missions authorized them to preach in public, to assume an activist role, and to declare sexual autonomy through celibacy. They redefined their relationships to the powers that be by becoming instruments of God in a kind of protofeminist gesture. Haynes uses historical methods, feminist literary theory, and liberation theology to investigate the ways these women, as reflected especially in their autobiographies, employed the idea of motherhood to fashion strong, authentic identities as women called to preach the gospel. Though radical spiritual motherhood is an identity specifically adopted by free black women, the lives and texts of these itinerant preachers retain close ties to those of enslaved black women through the negative cultural stereotypes assigned to both groups. To illustrate this connection, Haynes analyzes the writings of the preachers within the context of the narratives of former slaves Harriet Jacobs, Mary Prince, and Sojourner Truth. Haynes also links the lineage of radical spiritual motherhood to a modern woman by considering Pauli Murray (1910--1985), the first African American woman (and the second African American) to be ordained as an Episcopal priest. By looking at Murray's intellectual and spiritual development, especially her feminist ideologies, social activism, and espousal of liberation theology, Haynes shows that Murray was in fact a modern-day radical spiritual mother. Pioneering and accessible, Radical Spiritual Motherhood marks a turning point in the study of both African American literature and women's studies.

Book Sunny Memories of Three Pastorates

Download or read book Sunny Memories of Three Pastorates written by William Elliot Grifffis and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2005-12-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I were to say that in looking over my life as a pastor, it seemed to me that I had but one charge, and that was in Schenectady, I might be doing injustice to my fellow-Christians in Boston and Ithaca, who were co-workers with me; and yet I should not be far from the truth in uttering my feelings thus; for, apart from the freshness of first love, there was, between the edifice itself and my boyhood dreams, a providential link of endearment of which I shall tell.-from "In the Home Land Again-Schenectady"Cosy and intimate, these recollections of a life in the service of God make up a warm and heartfelt professional autobiography of a man who dedicated his life to faith and education. William Elliot Griffis served as a pastor and teacher in Schenectady (from 1877-1886), Boston (1886-1893), and Ithaca (1893-1903), where he drew around him a wide circle of dedicated students and devoted friends, and his cheerful stories of them and his work are a joy to read. First published in 1903, this lovely book also includes an inspiring collection of Griffis's sermons and essays on such topics as camaraderie, community, and Christ. Also available from Cosimo Classics: Griffis's The Religions of Japan.American author, educator, and theologian WILLIAM ELLIOT GRIFFIS (1843-1912) was born in Philadelphia.
