Download or read book William Randolph Hearst written by Ben Procter and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-24 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Randolph Hearst was a figure of Shakespearean proportions, a man of huge ambition, inflexible will, and inexhaustible energy. He revolutionized the newspaper industry in America, becoming the most powerful media mogul the world had ever seen, and in the process earned himself the title of "most hated man in America" on four different occasions. Now in the second volume of this sweeping biography, Ben Procter gives readers a vivid portrait of the final 40 years of Hearst's life. Drawing on previously unavailable letters and manuscripts, and quoting generously from Hearst's own editorials, Procter covers all aspects of Hearst's career: his journalistic innovations, his impassioned patriotism, his fierce belief in "Government by Newspaper," his frustrated political aspirations, profligate spending and voracious art collecting, the building of his castle at San Simeon, and his tumultuous Hollywood years. The book offers new insight into Hearst's bitter and highly public quarrels with Al Smith (who referred to Hearst papers as "Mudgutter Gazettes") and FDR (whose New Deal Hearst dubbed the "Raw Deal"); his 30-year affair with the actress Marion Davies (and her own affairs with others); his political evolution from a progressive trust-buster and "America first" isolationist to an increasingly conservative and at times hysterical anti-communist. Procter also explores Hearst's ill-considered meeting with Hitler, his attempts to suppress "Citizen Kane," and his relationships with Joseph Kennedy, Charles Lindbergh, Louis B. Meyer, and many other major figures of his time. As Life magazine noted, Hearst newspapers were a "one-man fireworks display"--sensational, controversial, informative, and always entertaining. In Ben Procter's fascinating biography, Hearst shines forth in all his eccentric and egocentric glory.

Download or read book The Hope Deficit written by Rev: James Morris ACS. Bch. M and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refocus your attention on sharing God’s message with the world with the inspiring guidance in The Hope Deficit! In this book, the author proclaims that Jesus Christ, the son of God, is the only hope that is everlasting. He also explains the difference between true hope and false hope, revealing that hope is the very person of Christ residing within the disciple by faith. He also observes that the metamorphosis of evil continues to baffle the naïve. Humanity’s cry for hope is growing ever louder – but hope outside of Christ does not exist. The author considers questions such as: • How does trusting in the Lord and His holy word inspire hope? • Why does every human being need hope so much? • How can we find peace and rest? We must choose wisely who we believe and what we trust. Just as man’s choice to be gods knowing good and evil brought us this hopeless world of sin, death, and pain, man must now choose to believe that Jesus Christ God is the only way for mankind to be saved.

Download or read book Climate Change and the Symbol Deficit in the Christian Tradition written by Jan-Olav Henriksen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring how the climate crisis discloses the symbol deficit in the Christian tradition, this book argues that Christianity is rich in symbols that identify and address the failures of humans and the obstacles that prevent humans from doing well, while positive symbols that can engage people in constructive action seem underdeveloped. Henriksen examines the potential of the Christian tradition to develop symbols that can engage peoples in committed and sustained action to prevent further crisis. To do so, he argues that we need symbols that engage both intellectually and emotionally, and which enhance our perception of belonging in relationships with other humans, be it both in the present and in the future. According to Henriksen, the deficit can only be obliterated if we can develop symbols that have some root or resonance in the Christian tradition, provide concrete and specified guidance of agency, engage people both emotionally and intellectually, and finally open up to visions for a moral agency that provide positive motivations for caring about environmental conditions as a whole.
Download or read book Attention Deficit written by Santo J. Triolo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most clinicians rely on only an interview to diagnose ADHD in adults. With the recent media "overkill" about ADHD, more and more patients have already read numerous articles and books about the topic making it even harder for practitioners to differentiate between symptoms due to ADHD and symptoms of a hypersensitive patient. As a result, the clinician should no longer rely on just an interview but a more sphoisticated and reliable method. Attention Deficit: A Practitioner's Handbook offers practical guidance to diagnose ADHD with special consideration to comorbid and differential diagnoses. This volume also challenges practitioners to move beyond current diagnostic criteria and presents arguments for standardized testing in addition to the traditional interview. Insightful commentaries on major points of current controversy in this area of study are also highlighted. Dr. Triolo, author of the Attention Deficit Scales for Adults (ADSA), also discusses theoretical perspectives of ADHD and bridges the gap between the research and clinical practice. A most practical volume that clinicians will appreciate in their library.

It focuses on the use of this campaign material in the United States, as well as in France, Great Britain, Germany, South Africa, Japan, Mexico, and many other countries. The book examines how posters evolved and discusses their changing role in the twentieth century and thereafter; how technology, education, legislation, artistic movements, advertising, and political systems effected changes in election posters and other campaign media, and how they were employed around the world.
