Book excerpt: The tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, triggered an unprecedented worldwide outpouring of grief from the public that adored her ever since she was first identified as the girlfriend of the Prince of Wales in 1981. Ever since August 31, 1997, people have struggled to account for the depth of the impact she seemed to have on people's hearts and minds. First the little girl who felt that she had disappointed her family by not being a boy, then the schoolgirl who preferred pranks to studying, then the shy kindergarten teacher who won the heart of Prince Charles, Diana's anonymity ended forever only a few weeks after she began dating the heir to the British throne. Over the next sixteen years, she lived her life in the public eye-a smiling, dutiful royal wife and mother, who eventually rocked the monarchy to its foundations by disclosing the details of her troubled marriage to the world, shining a light on the hidden life of the notoriously private royal family. This book examines the contrast between the private Diana and the public princess-the troubled yet radiant woman who believed that one must suffer in order to have compassion for others.

Download or read book Lady Diana written by Dr. Ramnath Sonawane and published by . This book was released on 2019-04 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This play is about Lady Diana. It depicts some real life incidences and some imaginary scenes to sound it more dramatic. Except Lady Diana and Dodi, who are no more. There are six main characters from the Royal Family. The fairytale marriage between the Princess Diana and the Prince George ends with the divorce due to his affair with his first love Pamela. When Diana discovers this, feels distressed and betrayed, she tries to find solace in the charity, the purpose which was dear to her heart even before her marriage. In fact, she marries the Prince with that noble intention only. She does not get the desired support of from the Prince and the Royal Family. She tries to commit suicide. She feels frustrated and lonely in the Palace, whereas, feels happy and homely with the common people who are the victims of war and some social evils. The scene depicting the dialogues between the Lady Diana and Dr. Freud suggests the inner conflict at the sub conscious level. She consciously decides to be a commoner! As she was the media attraction, she was often spied and chased by the paparazzi. During the course of charitable work, she comes across some rich and influential people. She falls in love with some of them. The media gave wide publicity to her personal life which proved to be damaging to the Royal Family. The marriage ultimately ended in Divorce. After divorce, her decision to marry the Egyptian millionaire's son invited wrath of the Royal Family. The Destiny played its role and before her remarriage, both of them died in the road accident. . The sub plot relates to the marriage and divorce between the Duke and the Duchess. It is a perfect foil to the main plot as it depicts the estranged Duchess seeking divorce from the Duke who is tolerant enough to accept her extra marital affair for the sake of Royalty. On the other hand, in the main plot, Diana takes a conscious decision of divorce, sacrificing her title and even the right to Queenship. The dictum of the Shakespearean tragedy," the character is Destiny; we are ourselves the makers or the destroyers of our own fortune" is thus proved through the personality traits of the Lady Diana. Book Diana in Search of Herself

Download or read book Diana in Search of Herself written by Sally Bedell Smith and published by Random House. This book was released on 2012-08-15 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first authoritative biography of one of the most fabled women of the twentieth century—Princess Diana—that paints an insightful and haunting portrait, a “chilling vision of loneliness, need, and untreated mental illness” (USA Today). “[Sally Bedell] Smith has done a remarkable job extracting what’s genuinely pertinent and interesting about Diana. . . . If you’re going to read one Diana book, this should be it.”—Newsweek For all that has been written about Diana—the books, the commemorative magazines, the thousands of newspaper articles—we have lacked a sophisticated understanding of the woman, her motivations, and her extreme needs. Most books have been exercises in hagiography or character assassination, sometimes both in the same volume. With Diana in Search of Herself, acclaimed biographer Sally Bedell Smith has written the first truly balanced and nuanced portrait of the Princess of Wales, in all her emotional complexity. Drawing on scores of exclusive interviews with Diana’s friends and associates, Smith explores the events and relationships that shaped the Princess, the flashpoints that sent her careening through life, her deep feelings of unworthiness, her view of men, and her perpetual journey toward a better sense of self. By making connections not previously explored, Diana in Search of Herself allows readers to see Diana as she really was, from her birth to her tragic death. Original in its reporting and surprising in its conclusions about the severity of Diana’s mental health problems, Diana in Search of Herself is the smartest and most substantive biography ever written about this mesmerizing woman. NOTE: This edition does not include photographs.

Book The Diana Chronicles

Download or read book The Diana Chronicles written by Tina Brown and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2007-06-12 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Years after her death, Princess Diana remains a mystery. This "insanely readable and improbably profound" biography (Chicago Tribune) reveals the truth as only famed journalist Tina Brown could tell it. "The best book on Diana." —The New Yorker Was she “the people’s princess,” who electrified the world with her beauty and humanitarian missions? Or was she manipulative and media-savvy and nearly brought down the monarchy? Tina Brown, former Editor-in-Chief of Tatler, England’s glossiest gossip magazine; Vanity Fair; and The New Yorker gives us the answers. Tina knew Diana personally and has far-reaching insight into the royals and the Queen herself. In The Diana Chronicles, you will meet a formidable female cast and understand as never before the society that shaped them: Diana's sexually charged mother, her scheming grandmother, the stepmother she hated but finally came to terms with, and bad-girl Fergie, her sister-in-law, who concealed wounds of her own. Most formidable of them all was her mother-in-law, the Queen, whose admiration Diana sought till the day she died. Add Camilla Parker-Bowles, the ultimate "other woman" into this combustible mix, and it's no wonder that Diana broke out of her royal cage into celebrity culture, where she found her own power and used it to devastating effect.

Book Adaptation Intermediality and the British Celebrity Biopic

Download or read book Adaptation Intermediality and the British Celebrity Biopic written by Márta Minier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with the premise that the biopic is a form of adaptation and an example of intermediality, this collection examines the multiplicity of 'source texts' and the convergence of different media in this genre, alongside the concurrent issues of fidelity and authenticity that accompany this form. The contributors focus on big and small screen biopics of British celebrities from the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries, attending to their myth-making and myth-breaking potential. Related topics are the contemporary British biopic's participation in the production and consumption of celebrated lives, and the biopic's generic fluidity and hybridity as evidenced in its relationship to such forms as the bio-docudrama. Offering case studies of film biographies of literary and cultural icons, including Elizabeth I, Elizabeth II, Diana Princess of Wales, John Lennon, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Beau Brummel, Carrington and Beatrix Potter, the essays address how British identity and heritage are interrogated in the (re)telling and showing of these lives, and how the reimagining of famous lives for the screen is influenced by recent processes of manufacturing celebrity.

Book A Surgeon and a Maverick

Download or read book A Surgeon and a Maverick written by Simon Pearson and published by American University in Cairo Press. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[A] remarkable journey.”—The Telegraph The incredible life story of legendary cardiac surgeon and scientist Magdi Yacoub, an outsider who succeeded against the odds Veteran journalists Simon Pearson and Fiona Gorman follow the remarkable life of heart surgeon Magdi Yacoub from his formative years in Egypt, through spectacular success at Cairo University, to his long and distinguished career in Britain. Although at times he clashed with the medical establishment in London, Yacoub pioneered great advances in heart surgery. He was knighted in 1992, and in 2014, he was awarded the highest honor in the gift of the Queen, the Order of Merit. Written with unprecedented access and drawing on extensive interviews and research, the biography recounts how Yacoub transformed the treatment of children with congenital heart disease. He performed some of the first heart transplants in Britain and the first heart-lung transplants in Europe. At London’s Harefield Hospital, he created the greatest heart transplant center in the world. Among his patients are men and women who are still thriving more than thirty-five years after he gave them new hope. This story is also about science, the development of new medical techniques, and a deeper understanding of how the human body works. Today, at an age when most people have long since retired, Yacoub is still pushing the boundaries of scientific understanding and surgical know-how. He is also taking heart surgery to places that until now have had little access to cardiac treatment, developing centers of excellence across Africa, including in Egypt, where his hospital in Aswan has an international reputation, and a new center is rising in Cairo. Yacoub’s life is one of triumph and tragedy, success and failure, fierce criticism and high praise—it is also an enthralling journey through the worlds of scientific research and medical politics and ethics at the highest levels.

Was Andanson an SIS operative, trained to use his white Fiat Uno to tip the Mercedes car, causing it to career into the 13th pillar in the tunnel? Why was he found, deep in a forest, beheaded in his burnt out, keyless, locked car, with a bullet wound in his head? Is Tomlinson, ex-SIS agent, absolutely right when he says the Mercedes car accident was a classically planned SIS method of execution, one he knew was being planned to assassinate a former Serbian leader? Did Diana tell a medic that she wished to be buried with Dodi as she lay dying? Was Diana a half-sister to Jemima Khan?
