Book excerpt: Amidst the whirlwind of dating, the excitement of engagement, and the anticipation of wedding preparations, unfortunately, halachah often falls by the wayside. However, never are the laws of tznius, yichud, negiah, and proper behavior between the genders, more crucial than during this time. For if the couple is careful in these matters, their entire marriage will be infused with holiness and purity. This comprehensive work discusses all the practical applications of the halachos, in a clear, sensitive way. From the distinguished author of 'Modesty: An Adornment for Life.'

Download or read book The Literary Imagination of Ultra Orthodox Jewish Women written by Alyse Fisher Roller and published by McFarland. This book was released on 1999 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultra-Orthodox sector of Jewish culture possesses its own body of creative English writing, a prose genre which is impelled and shaped by women. Contemporary scholars and writers have brought ultra-Orthodox Jewish women to our attention. However, critical writing about this community has consistently misrepresented or misanalyzed it. This study attempts to correct the outsider's bias prevalent in academic research by letting the insiders' voices--that is, the writings of ultra-Orthodox Jewish women--speak for themselves. Through the women's heretofore little known literature, we can get an unmediated view of this secluded yet vibrant writing community, a glimpse into how traditional women in a postmodern world negotiate feminist consciousness. Writers are analyzed in the specific fields of personal narrative, anthology, Holocaust testimonial, self-help literature, and fiction. A bibliography and index are included.

Download or read book Among the Ruins of the Kingdom written by Douglas Hatten and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kingdom of Mélekh is now a forgotten dream, little more than ancient ruins and a note in history. The world of men is once more divided, while a sinister threat grows in the desolate lands to the north. Zidek, the immortal prophet who set the Crown of Ancients upon King Mélekh's brow a thousand years ago, has taken interest in a young farm boy named Chayim. Acting on a prophecy regarding a coming hero destined to destroy the liche-sorcerer, Tsar-Echthros, and prepare the way for Mélekh's return, Zidek takes the boy under his wing. Together, they set out on a quest to locate Mélekh's ancient sword and armor, which the king long ago divided among his knights for safe keeping. If Chayim is to survive the coming battle and save the world from despairing darkness, he will not only have to accept his calling, but learn how to tap into the very power that brought about the creation of the world.
Download or read book The Soul of Solomon Siegel written by HERBERT SIEGEL and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-03-31 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has no story plot and is about only one person. It is different from other books that may be described as action-packed or "a page turner". It is an inspirational and emotional biographical book that puts you into the life of an orthodox Jew, Solomon Siegel, living in Brooklyn, New York from 1910 until his death in 1951. Through speeches, poems, songs, parables, jokes and Torah stories he is able to present his moral values and philosophy. Many of his writings are so thought provoking and informative that it may require you to sit and contemplate his meaning. His views on the coming of the State of Israel give us the historical view of the Jewish community when he served as a synagogue president. We see his heartfelt obligation and devotion to the survivors of the Holocaust in his support of The Hachnosas Kallah (Bridal Fund) for the young Jewish immigrants arriving here without funds to marry and start a new life. Many of his writings are a powerful and poignant reminder for today's Jewish community if they are to survive the current secular world we live in. The theme of his writings is the keeping of the Sabbath and the Holidays that will define us as Jews. My adventure into the literary world is not a creative attempt to become a famous author. Through this book I want my family to have a strong connection to a person that, to my own regret, I never had. I believe I have achieved this goal. When my twin brother, Martin, and I visited Suwalki Poland his home town, and also through my research of the area and time he was there it was reinforced. I now know this inspiring and perceptive person. I also now know "The soul of Solomon Siegel".
