Book Even the Dead Rise Up

Download or read book Even the Dead Rise Up written by Francis McKee and published by . This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Even the Dead Rise Up, and the political becomes personal. In McKee's first novel, observations of séances, scientific advances, group education outings, Kurdish protests for the 'disappeared', become mixed with his own Tarot influenced visions: a haunting spirit appears; the relation between political resistance and Spiritualism is cast as an insurrectionary force and a millenarian energy, celebrating the ecstatic moment. Histories of isolated early Christians and twentieth century mystics affect the psyche, all of this documented through journal entries that move from Scottish islands to Puerto Rico. Influenced by forms of 1960s new journalism, McKee pushes language to match the raw material of the stories, which become more erratic, signalling the looming fate of the text and its author," --Publisher's website (viewed on March 30, 2017).

Book And the Dead Shall Rise

Download or read book And the Dead Shall Rise written by Steve Oney and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive account of one of American history’s most repellent and most fascinating moments, combining investigative journalism and sweeping social history "Years later, the tale of murder and revenge in Georgia still has the power to fascinate...Intense, suspenseful.” —The Washington Post Book World In 1913, 13-year-old Mary Phagan was found brutally murdered in the basement of the Atlanta pencil factory where she worked. The factory manager, a college-educated Jew named Leo Frank, was arrested, tried, and convicted in a trial that seized national headlines. When the governor commuted his death sentence, Frank was kidnapped and lynched by a group of prominent local citizens. Steve Oney’s acclaimed account re-creates the entire story for the first time, from the police investigations to the gripping trial to the brutal lynching and its aftermath. Oney vividly renders Atlanta, a city enjoying newfound prosperity a half-century after the Civil War, but still rife with barely hidden prejudices and resentments. He introduces a Dickensian pageant of characters, including zealous policemen, intrepid reporters, Frank’s martyred wife, and a fiery populist who manipulated local anger at Northern newspapers that pushed for Frank’s exoneration.

Book excerpt: Blake was never one for taking chances. He lived in a world of statistics and probabilities where everything could be controlled. That world disappeared the day the dead got up and began attacking the living. Now he must struggle to survive and to make sense of a new and chaotic world that is quickly spiraling out of control. Rise of the Dead chronicles the first week of events beginning from the moment the dead rise. While the story is a fast-paced thrill ride through an ever-growing zombie horde, the novel aims to draw upon familiar themes as those found in the Romero classics. Along the way, Blake finds himself thrust among other unlikely survivors who must adapt to the realities of the undead world or join the legion of zombies. They must do more than fight off the undead. The survivors must fight against their conditioned apathy towards humanity.

Book excerpt: Based on Sam Raimi¿s 80s cult classic films, EVIL DEAD tells the tale of 5 college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. And although it may sound like a horror, it's not! The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit. EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL unearths the old familiar story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends upon this sleepover in the woods, ¿camp¿ takes on a whole new meaning with uproarious numbers like ¿All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,¿ ¿Look Who¿s Evil Now¿ and ¿Do the Necronomicon.¿

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the small town of Jordan, Oklahoma residents find themselves the victim of a shocking terrorist attack. A society so completely dependent on technology for its security and commerce has suddenly been turned upside down. Even worse than the uncertainty of their immediate safety is another problem that no one can explain. People who have been dead for years are popping up all over town, appearing and giving witness that the Rapture of the Church is eminent but for the lost, the Great Tribulation. Who will listen to their message and repent and who will refuse to believe their own eyes? Meet Jack, a pastor who is suddenly slapped in the face by what has happened and then baffled when he spots Sister Gregg, a former member of his church. The only trouble is the last time he saw the woman was at her own funeral. The town begins to shake at these events and as a church turns to their leader, Pastor Jack desperately searches for the answers he must give his congregation. How much time remains for people to repent is anyone's guess, for Jack and his flock it's a race to reach the lost. The Dead Rise First is a fast-paced, intriguing read for anyone interested in the Rapture. This book brings something new to readers and is provoking discussion among scholars with this one question: why do the dead rise first? Although purely fiction, the events are based on scriptural answers that unearth a new understanding concerning the rapture of the Church. Does it reveal a mystery about how God will raise the dead in Christ as seen in 1 Thess. 4:13-14? Will it be the same way Jesus was resurrected in Matthew 27:52-53? You decide.

Book A Semi graphical Method for Analyzing Strains Measured on Three Or Four Gage Lines Intersecting at 45 Degrees

Download or read book A Semi graphical Method for Analyzing Strains Measured on Three Or Four Gage Lines Intersecting at 45 Degrees written by H. N. Hill and published by . This book was released on 1939 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method herein described is essentially graphical, but does require a small amount of arithmetical manipulation. It is not, however, a combination of the two methods mentioned above. To the best of the writer's knowledge, this treatment constitutes an entirely new procedure for determining stresses from strains measured on gage lines intersecting at 45 degrees. The method is thought to have some advantages in simplicity and directness over both of those previously mentioned.

Book The Application of Green s Theorem to the Solution of Boundary value Problems in Linearized Supersonic Wing Theory

Download or read book The Application of Green s Theorem to the Solution of Boundary value Problems in Linearized Supersonic Wing Theory written by Max A. Heaslet and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the assumptions of linearized theory, general methods of solutin are given for two- and three-dimensional steady-state and two-dimensional unsteady-state equations of compressible flow. The solutions depend in all cases on the use of Green's equivalent layer of sources, sinks, and doublets. Emphasis is placed on applications in supersonic wing theory, the singularities arising in the integrations being treated by Hadamard's finite part of the technique. Four examples of different character are discussed. In particular, the load distribution over a specific swept-back lifting surface is determined at a free-stream Mach number of one.

Book Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow

Download or read book Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow written by Edmund E. Callaghan and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of combined heat and mass transfer from a flat plate has been made in terms of Prandtl's simpified physical concept of the turbulent boundary layer. The results of the analysis show that tor conditioins of reasonably small heat and mass transfer, the ratio of the mass- and heat-transfer coefficients is dependent on the Reynolds number of the boundary layer, the Prandtl number of the medium of diffusion, and the Schmidt number of the diffusing fluid in the medium of diffusion. For the particular case of water evaporating into air, the ratio of mass-transfer coefficient to heat-transfer coefficient is found to be slightly greater than unity.
