Download or read book Delphi Complete Works of Joel Chandler Harris Illustrated written by Joel Chandler Harris and published by Delphi Classics. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 4380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American author and creator of the folk character Uncle Remus, Joel Chandler Harris produced a wide body of works, reflecting his life and interests in the Deep South. As a young journalist, he established a reputation as a brilliant humorist and writer of dialect. His Uncle Remus stories secured for Harris a place in American literature. The format was an instant success — a wise and genial old black man, Uncle Remus narrates tales of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and other animals to the son of a plantation owner, while interweaving his philosophy of the world about him. Harris’ later novels reveal his ability as a writer of ‘local color’, exploring important issues facing the South after its Reconstruction. Download or read book The Letter to the Philippians written by G. Walter Hansen and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-05 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this commentary G. Walter Hansen offers rich exposition of the text of Philippians as well as wisdom and maturity in its application. In so doing he emphasizes partnership--the social and corporate dimensions of community--in the progress of the gospel. After a select bibliography, Hansen's introduction sets forth the historical setting of the church in Philippi, the nature and occasion of the letter, and a preview of two key themes--the gospel of Christ and the community in Christ. The commentary itself discusses Philippians in light of these themes, considering Paul's greetings, reports of gospel ministry, imperatives for citizens worthy of the gospel, recommendations of two Christ-like servants, and disclosures of his personal experience. Hansen's treatment as a whole is distinctive for the way it draws out and highlights the themes of partnership, citizenship, and friendship in Paul's Philippian letter. "With themes and emotions so varied, the letter to the Philippians needs a commentator with a sure grasp and a warm heart. . . . Hansen writes with admirable clarity and simplicity, even when he is unpacking notoriously complex matters." -- D. A. Carson (from the preface)

Each society characterizes and, consequently, treats death and dying in its own individual ways—ways that differ markedly. These particular patterns of death and dying engender modal cultural responses, and such institutionalized behavior has familiar, economical, educational, religious, and political implications. The Handbook of Death and Dying takes stock of the vast literature in the field of thanatology, arranging and synthesizing what has been an unwieldy body of knowledge into a concise, yet comprehensive reference work. This two-volume handbook will provide direction and momentum to the study of death-related behavior for many years to come. Download or read book Diddie Dumps Tot or Plantation child life written by Louise Clarke Pyrnelle and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-08-22 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Diddie, Dumps & Tot; or, Plantation child-life' by Louise Clarke Pyrnelle, readers are transported to a vivid and poignant depiction of life on a Southern plantation through the eyes of three young African American siblings. The book's literary style combines elements of sentimentalism and realism, offering a unique perspective on childhood in the antebellum South. Pyrnelle's use of dialect and detailed descriptions of the landscape create a rich literary context that immerses readers in the past. Through the siblings' adventures and interactions with adults and peers, the book provides a window into the complexities of race and childhood during this tumultuous period in American history. Louise Clarke Pyrnelle, an African American author and educator, drew on her own experiences growing up in the South to write 'Diddie, Dumps & Tot'. Her firsthand knowledge of plantation life and her commitment to portraying the humanity of African American characters shine through in the narrative. Pyrnelle's dedication to giving voice to marginalized perspectives makes this book a valuable contribution to American literature. I highly recommend 'Diddie, Dumps & Tot; or, Plantation child-life' to readers interested in exploring the nuances of childhood, race, and history in the antebellum South. Pyrnelle's insightful storytelling and vivid characterizations make this book a compelling and thought-provoking read.
