Book Economie om van te smullen

Download or read book Economie om van te smullen written by Ha-Joon Chang and published by Nieuw Amsterdam. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Nederlands Dagblad

Book Economic Crises and Global Politics in the 20th Century

Download or read book Economic Crises and Global Politics in the 20th Century written by Alexander Nützenadel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the history of economic crises from the angle of international politics and its transformation throughout the 20th century. While political and economic debates in the wake of the present financial crisis are revolving around the question of how to create effective forms of global governance, historians have discovered a long tradition of international economic regulation that can be traced back to the late 19th century. In the global economy, sovereign defaults, banking crises and currency crashes have been recurrent phenomena. At the same time, alongside the growing globalization of commodity and capital markets, nation-states have introduced new forms of regulation both on the national and international level. The experience of economic crises has been an important driver behind numerous initiatives to foster global politics. The purpose of the book is to reconnect economic history with the perspectives of political economy and the history of international relations. It forms a dialogue between the disciplines that have been increasingly separated throughout the past decades. With first-rate economic historians and political economists writing for a wider audience, it simultaneously makes public debates and methods of recent cutting-edge research in economic history within a wider academic community. This book was originally published as a special issue of the European Review of History.

Book Surinaams contrast

  • Author : A.A. van Stipriaan
  • Publisher : BRILL

  • ISBN : 9004259791
  • Pages : 510 pages

Download or read book Surinaams contrast written by A.A. van Stipriaan and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Marshall Plan Today

Download or read book The Marshall Plan Today written by John Agnew and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-06-24 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume has as its focus the role of the Marshall Plan as both a force in the transformation of European Economic practices and a stimulus to political integration in Europe. This organizing theme is framed in terms of two other issues that are central to contemporary debates in international political economy and geopolitical studies: the origins and development of the Cold War, and the growing globalisation of the world economy. In relating the Marshall Plan to these issues, this book goes beyond the typical diplomatic history approach to place the Plan in the context of both the political economy of late twentieth-century Europe, and the impact of American models of business and government that came with the Plan.

Book Globalization Regional Development and Local Response

Download or read book Globalization Regional Development and Local Response written by Leendert Andrew de Bell and published by Rozenberg Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In a world that has become increasingly interconnected over the past decades - economically, politically, socially, and culturally - new challenges are posed to development. Since the 1980s, development has increasingly become interpreted in terms of increasing integration into the world economy. Export-oriented manufacturing became widely viewed as the surest recipe for realizing economic growth while reducing income inequality, and the role of foreign direct investments became increasingly important in development strategies worldwide. However, not every region, industry and social group managed to become successfully integrated into the world economy. In order to explain why these processes of economic restructuring have had such a differential impact, this study situates developments within a wider historical social and political context to establish how these processes of globalization are mediated at the regional and local level. The main object of study concerns the drastic socioeconomic transformation that has taken place in the state of Coahuila - situated in the northeast of Mexico, bordering the United States - over the past three decades. In particular since the start of NAFTA in 1994, Coahuila has become one of Mexico's most successful export-oriented manufacturing states, most importantly as a result of the large number of foreign direct investments it received. However, the effects of these developments have been unevenly distributed among its sub-regions, while questions must also be raised about its ability to contribute to sustained, long-term growth with equity. The key issue appears to be not whether, but how regions and localities become linked to the world economy."--page 4 of cover

Book De garoeda en de ooievaar

Download or read book De garoeda en de ooievaar written by Herman Burgers and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Varieties of Capitalism and Business History

Download or read book Varieties of Capitalism and Business History written by Keetie E. Sluyterman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The financial crisis of 2008 brought new urgency to the question how best to organise national economies. This volume gives a business history perspective on the Varieties of Capitalism debate and considers the respective merits of the liberal and coordinated market economies. It looks at individual firms and business people as well as institutions and takes a long-term perspective by covering the whole 20th century. The authors examine both continuity and change with a particular focus on the Netherlands, a nation with an open economy, situated between two countries that oppose each other in the way they organize their economies: Germany and Great Britain. The Netherlands also provides an important case study with Dutch business maintaining strong links to the United States, widely considered to be the ‘typical’ liberal market economy. Contributors address the main topics of the capitalism debate, including labour relations, corporate governance, the firm and its leaders, coordination between firms, innovation, multinationals as agents of change, and economic performance. They show that the Netherlands moved from a mostly liberal market economy before 1914 towards a coordinated market economy from the 1930s onwards, and – up to a certain extent – back again to a more liberal market economy. Under both varieties of capitalism the country experienced economic growth and stagnation, but a more equal division of wealth occurred in the coordinated market economy only. Wars and international economic crises offered moments for revaluation and changes of tack. This book raises questions for every country around the globe: How is change being brought about? Can one see different results from a liberal or a more coordinated market economy? And most critically: which system is more effective in bringing prosperity and enabling enough people to share in the wealth?
