HappyLand Toy Company denies that its beads were defectively designed and has also asserted an affirmative defense of comparative fault, claiming that the negligence and/or recklessness of Andy Davis and/or Joey's babysitter was more responsible than HappyLand Toy Company for Joey's death.

They were married near Savannah but later moved to Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, where my father was born on June 15th, 1826, the eldest of ten children. My grandfather became a thriving merchant of Lawrenceville, postmaster as well, and my father has told us many entertaining stories of the days when he used to "ride the mail" and sell ribbons and things to the girls.

He was stolen as a child from his home in New Jersey, yoked to servitude for more than forty years in Kentucky and Alabama, and finally freed with the help of a pair of Jewish brothers. It is the only nineteenth-century slave narrative to show the participation of the Jews in the antislavery movement before the Civil War.
