Book Wave Transmission by Overtopping

Download or read book Wave Transmission by Overtopping written by Ralph Herbert Cross and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents a theory for ocean wave transmission past breakwaters by overtopping, based on an evaluation of the energy content of the overtopping water. While several coefficients are subject to further investigation, the data shows that the general form of the equations developed is correct. Comparison of an intermediate theoretical result predicting the volume of overtopping water with published data again shows reasonable agreement. An envelope curve for the transmission coefficient, based on all available data, gives a simple tool for preliminary design estimates of the transmission coefficient. (Author).

Book Wave Overtopping Equation

Download or read book Wave Overtopping Equation written by J. Richard Weggel and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some available data on wave overtopping by monochromatic waves were reevaluated before publication of the Shore Protection Manual (U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers, Coastal Engineering Research Center, 1973). The analysis of earlier data was made in order to summarize and present it in a more readily usable form. This paper provides empirical equations which can be used to predict overtopping rates for various structure slopes and structure types if accurate predictions of runup are available.

Book COASTAL ENGINEERING SECOND EDITION

Download or read book COASTAL ENGINEERING SECOND EDITION written by MANI, J. S. and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-07-01 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present edition, with new title Coastal Engineering, is the enlarged and updated volume of the book origin-ally published under the title Coastal Hydrodynamics in 2012. The book provides an overview of world population and ocean resources, natural threats and man-made hazards, and their impact on coastal environment. It discusses the fundamentals of wind, waves, tides and fluid flow and describes commonly adopted wave theories in coastal engineering. The text explains the methods for estimating wave forces on coastal structures, procedures for the analysis of wave data, and sediment transport. Apart from the estimation of beach profile evolution and shoreline change, the book discusses key aspects related to the design of different coastal structures. NEW TO THE SECOND EDITION • Includes two new chapters on Beach Profile and Shoreline Evolution and Design of Breakwaters and Coastal Protective Structures • Colour photographs are appended at the end of the book KEY FEATURES • Worked-out examples will benefit the reader to understand and solve variety of coastal engineering problems. • Exercises given at the end of each chapter would benefit the reader to get exposed to a variety of practical problems related to coastal engineering. TARGET AUDIENCE • B.Tech./M.Tech. (Ocean Engineering/ Marine Engineering)

Download or read book Breakwaters and Closure Dams written by Kees d'Angremond and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-04 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breakwaters and closure dams belong to the most spectacular hydraulic structures. They are exposed to the most severe loading by waves and currents, either during their construction, or during their life cycle. Design and construction of these structures are so vitally interrelated that a proper understanding requires a thorough knowledge of the th

Book Wave Induced Runup and Overtopping Transmission for Core Loc TM Armor Layers

Download or read book Wave Induced Runup and Overtopping Transmission for Core Loc TM Armor Layers written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave-induced runup and wave transmission due to overtopping are two critical variables to be considered in design of coastal structures. Many studies have been performed on different armor units, but there is no generalized information available on CORE-LOC(TM) armor layer performance with respect to wave runup and transmission. Thus, an experimental study was performed to investigate the runup and transmission response of a CORE-LOC(TM) armor layer. Wave runup and transmitted wave heights were measured for a wide range of wave, water level, and structure conditions in order to develop predictive tools for CORE-LOC(TM) layer response. A new empirical model to predict runup levels was developed from an existing model for rock revetments. Furthermore, a semi-quantitative analysis of transmission data was conducted to give insight and guidance for design purposes.

Book Transmission of Wave Energy Through and Overtopping of the Long Beach California Breakwater

Download or read book Transmission of Wave Energy Through and Overtopping of the Long Beach California Breakwater written by Lyndell Z. Hales and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to meet growing future demands, a 10- to 15-yr harbor expansion program for the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., has been designed to provide an increased amount of terminal space and berthing areas. This increased space will be developed by dredging and landfill construction in the Outer Harbor, with the landfill proposed to lie parallel with the San Pedro Bay middle breakwater for approximately 18,500 ft (14,000 ft being in the long Beach jurisdiction), leaving a 1,000-ft-wide channel between the breakwater and the landfill.
