Book Data on the Anadromous Arctic Charr Salvelinus Alpinus of Nauyuk Lake Northwest Territories 1974 88

Download or read book Data on the Anadromous Arctic Charr Salvelinus Alpinus of Nauyuk Lake Northwest Territories 1974 88 written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arctic charr is an extremely important resource to the native people of northern Canada, feeding both humans and dogs, sold commercially, and the target of sport fisheries. Little is known about the dynamics of the species, making its conservation and management difficult. Consequently, a research program was begun in 1974 on the Nauyuk Lake system, running to 1980. Some parts of the program were conducted again in 1984 and 1988. This report summarizes the biological data collected, including monitoring of annual migrations of adult, juvenile, pre- and post-spawning charr; length, weight, age and sex data; numbers of fish migrating; time spent at sea; and time spent in freshwater.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Atlantic salmon is one of the most prized and exploited species worldwide, being at the centre of a massive sports fishing industry and increasingly as the major farmed species in many countries worldwide. Atlantic Salmon Ecology is a landmark publication, both scientifically important and visually attractive. Comprehensively covering all major aspects of the relationship of the Atlantic salmon with its environment, chapters include details of migration and dispersal, reproduction, habitat requirements, feeding, growth rates, competition, predation, parasitsm, population dynamics, effects of landscape use, hydro power development, climate change, and exploitation. The book closes with a summary and look at possible future research directions. Backed by the Norwegian Research Council and with editors and contributors widely known and respected, Atlantic Salmon Ecology is an essential purchase for all those working with this species, including fisheries scientists and managers, fish biologists, ecologists, physiologists, environmental biologists and aquatic scientists, fish and wildlife department personnel and regulatory bodies. Libraries in all universities and research establishments where these subjects are studied and taught should have copies of this important publication. Book Vertebrate and Invertebrate Respiratory Proteins Lipoproteins and other Body Fluid Proteins

Download or read book Vertebrate and Invertebrate Respiratory Proteins Lipoproteins and other Body Fluid Proteins written by Ulrich Hoeger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on respiratory proteins, the broad hemoglobin family, as well as the molluscan and arachnid hemocyanins (and their multifunctional roles). Featuring 20 chapters addressing invertebrate and vertebrate respiratory proteins, lipoproteins and other body fluid proteins, and drawing on the editors’ extensive research in the field, it is a valuable addition to the Subcellular Biochemistry book series. The book covers a wide range of topics, including lipoprotein structure and lipid transport; diverse annelid, crustacean and insect defense proteins; and insect and vertebrate immune complexes. It also discusses a number of other proteins, such as the hemerythrins; serum albumin; serum amyloid A; von Willebrand factor and its interaction with factor VIII; and C-reactive protein. Given its scope, the book appeals to biologists, biomedical scientists and clinicians, as well as advanced undergraduates and postgraduates in these disciplines. Available as a printed book and also as an e-book and e-chapters, the fascinating material included is easily accessible.

Book Genome Mapping and Genomics in Fishes and Aquatic Animals

Download or read book Genome Mapping and Genomics in Fishes and Aquatic Animals written by Thomas D. Kocher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-07 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping of animal genomes has generated huge databases and several new concepts and strategies, which are useful to elucidate origin, evolution and phylogeny. Genetic and physical maps of genomes further provide precise details on chromosomal location, function, expression and regulation of academically and economically important genes. The series Genome Mapping and Genomics in Animals provides comprehensive and up-to-date reviews on genomic research on a large variety of selected animal systems, contributed by leading scientists from around the world. This volume summarizes the first era of genomic studies of aquaculture species, in which the tools and resources necessary to support whole-genome sequencing were developed. These tools will enhance efforts toward selective breeding of aquaculture species. Included in this volume are summaries of work on salmonids, cyprinids, catfish, tilapias, European sea bass, Japanese flounder, shrimps and oysters.
