Book Data Acquisition and Playback System for Traffic Signals

Download or read book Data Acquisition and Playback System for Traffic Signals written by Donald E. Scheck and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project met its objectives which were to develop a system to simulate actual traffic conditions in a controlled shop test of traffic signal installations and a system to evaluate coordinated traffic signal performance based on the actual flow of traffic through the intersections. The first system uses data from the traffic signal monitor/recorder which was developed under an earlier contract. A custom designed interface allows an IBM PC or compatible computer to drive a shop test with actual field data. This capability is especially useful for correcting difficult to diagnose signal failures. The other system consists of five data acquisition devices which collect synchronized time stamped vehicle actuations and green times from traffic signal installations and the software to display this information as a series of time-space diagrams. Data are plotted in the form of a standard time-space diagram with vehicle actuations shown along the bar of signal colors for each intersection. This type of display highlights the progress of traffic relative to the traffic signal cycle.

Book Implementation of Coordinated Signal Monitoring and Playback System

Download or read book Implementation of Coordinated Signal Monitoring and Playback System written by Donald E. Scheck and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emphasis of this project was the implementation of the coordinated signal monitoring and playback system which was developed in an earlier project. The purpose of that system is to evaluate the performance of a system of coordinated signals. The user collects data on vehicle actuations and signal states for a series of coordinated signals and the system synchronizes the observations in time and displays the equivalent of a time-space diagram based on actual rather than theoretical traffic flow. Another objective was to develop a portable battery operated vehicle detection unit that would communicate with the data acquisition unit over an RF link.

Book Traffic Data Collection and its Standardization

Download or read book Traffic Data Collection and its Standardization written by Jaume Barceló and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-20 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nice night of October 2007, in Beijing, during the XV World Conference on ITS a number of colleagues met informally for a dinner party that spontaneously became a vivid discussion on the importance of traffic data for all types of p- poses. Researchers can hardly do any progress in modeling, developing, and te- ing theories without suitable data, and what practitioners can do in real life is limited not only by technology but also by the availability of the required data. Quite frequently, the data and not the technologies are what determine how far we can go. Any discussion about traffic data leads in a natural way to a discussion on the variety of traffic data sources, formats, levels of aggregation, accuracies, and so on. Consequently, we moved to talk on the initiative that Kuwahara had undertaken in his traffic laboratory at the University of Tokyo, known as the International Traffic Data Base, and thus smoothly but inexorably we came to agree that it would be convenient to organize a workshop to continue our discussion at a more formal level, share our points of view with other colleagues, listen what they had to say and, if possible, d- seminate the findings in our professional and academic communities.

Book Radar Remote Sensing of Urban Areas

Download or read book Radar Remote Sensing of Urban Areas written by Uwe Soergel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the key milestones of radar remote sensing for civil applications was the launch of the European Remote Sensing Satellite 1 (ERS 1) in 1991. The platform carried a variety of sensors; the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is widely cons- ered to be the most important. This active sensing technique provides all-day and all-weather mapping capability of considerably ?ne spatial resolution. ERS 1 and its sister system ERS 2 (launch 1995) were primarily designed for ocean app- cations, but soon the focus of attention turned to onshore mapping. Examples for typical applications are land cover classi?cation also in tropical zones and mo- toring of glaciers or urban growth. In parallel, international Space Shuttle Missions dedicated to radar remote sensing were conducted starting already in the 1980s. The most prominent were the SIR-C/X-SAR mission focussing on the investigation of multi-frequency and multi-polarization SAR data and the famous Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). Data acquired during the latter enabled to derive a DEM of almost global coverage by means of SAR Interferometry. It is indispe- ableeventodayandformanyregionsthebestelevationmodelavailable. Differential SAR Interferometry based on time series of imagery of the ERS satellites and their successor Envisat became an important and unique technique for surface defor- tion monitoring. The spatial resolution of those devices is in the order of some tens of meters.

Book Instrument Engineers Handbook Volume 3

Download or read book Instrument Engineers Handbook Volume 3 written by Bela G. Liptak and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 1142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instrument Engineers' Handbook – Volume 3: Process Software and Digital Networks, Fourth Edition is the latest addition to an enduring collection that industrial automation (AT) professionals often refer to as the "bible." First published in 1970, the entire handbook is approximately 5,000 pages, designed as standalone volumes that cover the measurement (Volume 1), control (Volume 2), and software (Volume 3) aspects of automation. This fourth edition of the third volume provides an in-depth, state-of-the-art review of control software packages used in plant optimization, control, maintenance, and safety. Each updated volume of this renowned reference requires about ten years to prepare, so revised installments have been issued every decade, taking into account the numerous developments that occur from one publication to the next. Assessing the rapid evolution of automation and optimization in control systems used in all types of industrial plants, this book details the wired/wireless communications and software used. This includes the ever-increasing number of applications for intelligent instruments, enhanced networks, Internet use, virtual private networks, and integration of control systems with the main networks used by management, all of which operate in a linked global environment. Topics covered include: Advances in new displays, which help operators to more quickly assess and respond to plant conditions Software and networks that help monitor, control, and optimize industrial processes, to determine the efficiency, energy consumption, and profitability of operations Strategies to counteract changes in market conditions and energy and raw material costs Techniques to fortify the safety of plant operations and the security of digital communications systems This volume explores why the holistic approach to integrating process and enterprise networks is convenient and efficient, despite associated problems involving cyber and local network security, energy conservation, and other issues. It shows how firewalls must separate the business (IT) and the operation (automation technology, or AT) domains to guarantee the safe function of all industrial plants. This book illustrates how these concerns must be addressed using effective technical solutions and proper management policies and practices. Reinforcing the fact that all industrial control systems are, in general, critically interdependent, this handbook provides a wide range of software application examples from industries including: automotive, mining, renewable energy, steel, dairy, pharmaceutical, mineral processing, oil, gas, electric power, utility, and nuclear power.
