Download or read book The Old Latin Manuscripts of the Gospel of Luke written by Annette Weissenrieder and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Codex Vercellensis is one of the great treasures of the Vercelli library, containing the four Gospels. Written during the fourth century, it is the oldest remaining Latin manuscript of the Greek New Testament and one of the most important witnesses to the early understanding of the Gospels. In this edition, Weissenrieder and Visinoni provide the Latin text of the work parallel to spectral images, indicating abbreviations, lineation, foliation and staurograms as well as a (reconstructed) critical edition with references to the most important texts of the Old Latin tradition as well as Greek and Syriac manuscripts and a commentary to this unique Latin translation. The analyses involved will be: (1) digital methods, (2) philological and theological, (3) translation theories in antiquity as well as (4) genealogical. The authors call into question assumptions about the text preserved in the manuscript, arguing that it represents an early stage of the Latin Gospels. The manuscript will be examined in light of its wide-ranging cultural and historical context. As such, the project aligns itself methodologically with the field of manuscript studies and attempts to integrate the specialized expertise of various disciplines in the study of a single object.

This book was released on 2013-11-10 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume summarize an international research project on early Christian citations from Israel’s scriptures. These quotations are not only theologically significant but are also part of the textual history of the Septuagint and adjacent textual traditions of the Greek and Hebrew Old Testament. The essays discuss relevant manuscripts (Bible codices, papyri, etc.) up to the fifth century, signs and marginal notes (e.g., the diplé) that were used in the ancient scriptoria, and the specifics of the reception history in early Christianity from Matthew to 1 Peter and from the apostolic fathers to Theophilos of Antioch. Download or read book Josephus und das Neue Testament written by Christfried Böttrich and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2007 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: Flavius Josephus' works are an invaluable source of material for the history of Judaism in the 1st century AD. The articles in this conference volume deal mainly with the 'mutual perceptions between Josephus' works and New Testament writings. In a discussion between theologians, experts in Jewish studies, ancient historians, philologists and art historians, the authors focus on a wide range of subjects. Leaving the previous selective use of Josephus behind, they engage a productive interdisciplinary discussion.

Download or read book Philo und das Neue Testament written by Roland Deines and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2004 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: This collection of articles is the result of an international symposium in Eisenach 2003 dealing with the New Testament and Philo as two important sources for Hellenistic Judaism in the 1st century AD. Specialists in Philo and the New Testament treat common subjects in both literary corpora showing the advantage of involving Philonic studies in the New Testament and vice versa. The symposium is part of the research project Corpus Judaeo-Hellenisticum Novi Testamenti which works on embedding the New Testament in its Jewish-Hellenistic context. In ubergreifenden Standortbestimmungen (u.a. durch Greg L. Sterling u.

Download or read book Everyday Life and the Sacred written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interdisciplinary gender-sensitive approach toward perspectives on the everyday and the sacred are the hallmark of this volume. Looking beyond the dualistic status-quo, the authors probe the categories, textures, powers, and practices that define how we experience, embody, and understand religion and the sacred, their interconnection, but also disassociation with the secular. Contributions by an international group of feminist theologians and religious studies scholars aim to re-configure the study of both religion and gender: Angela Berlis, Anne-Marie Korte, Kune Biezeveld †, Helga Kuhlmann, Maaike de Haardt, Akke van der Kooi, Dorothea Erbele-Küster, Willien van Wieringen, Magda Misset-van de Weg, Gé Speelman, Mathilde van Dijk, Jacqueline Borsje, Hedwig Meyer-Wilmes, Goedroen Juchtmans, Alma Lanser and Riet Bons-Storm.
