Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentially-English, almost-certainly quirky, and definitely a little crazy, come and meet our feisty R.E.D. (Retired Extremely Daisy) heroine, and find out why she’s such a hit with readers! “One of the best cozy mysteries I’ve ever read!” “A real breath of fresh literary air!” It’s the Great Wiltingham End of Spring Fayre. Everyone is there, including the local landowners Lord and Lady Falconbridge-Stuart. The women are encouraged to dress as flowers, the men as vegetables (no gender-related pun intended!) It is a two-hundred year old festival, after all. Daisy and Aidan are there too, and despite Daisy being virtually ordered to attend as she already has the name of a flower, she starts to enjoy the day. Until things turn darker, that is. Someone is murdered, and with many of those attending disguised by their costumes, it’s not easy to know who is even there to be a suspect. Then someone makes everything easier, by confessing to the crime. It’s the last person anyone expects. At first Daisy is quite prepared to accept the confession, given who it is, but the others persuade her things maybe aren’t as cut-and-dried as they first appear. The Henderson Detective Agency delve a little deeper, and soon discover the dark and hidden past of a village resident, taking them back over forty years as they follow a rocky road that becomes ever more dangerous with each twist and turn. Read all about Daisy, and everything else we create, on the rtgreen website Enjoy!

Book excerpt: Matilda Goodman is an underemployed wedding photographer grappling with her failure to live as an artist and the very bad lie she has told her boyfriend (that she has a dead twin). Harry, her (totally alive) brother, is an untenured professor of literature, anxiously contemplating his dead-end career and sleeping with a student. When Matilda invited her boyfriend home for Thanksgiving to meet the family, she falls down a slippery slope of shame, scandal, and drunken hot tub revelations forcing both siblings to examine who they really are and who they want to be. Told entirely in hilarious email exchanges, this is a wonderfully subversive, sensitive novel of romantic entanglement and misguided ambition

It follows Peter Carey's career from the nightmare-haunted stories of The Fat Man in History and War Crimes to the madcap satire of Bliss, from Illywhacker's picaresque landscapes to Oscar and Lucinda's glittering achievement, and the powerfully confronting vision of The Tax Inspector. Dancing on Hot Macadam is a lucid account of Peter Carey's fiction and its intriguing critical reception. It explores his preoccupation with imprisonment and metamorphosis, and the desire of his characters to escape from bewildering roles, relationships and societies.Dancing on Hot Macadam is another volume in the excellent Studies inAustralian Literature series ... It is a sound and persuasive critique thatgets much better as it goes along.Times Literary SupplementThe book contains a lot of ideas ... and will be the base from which to drawthe map of Carey's fiction as it develops further.Julian Croft Weekend Australian

Book The Storymaker Man from Ban Ban Doree

Download or read book The Storymaker Man from Ban Ban Doree written by Peter Poidevin and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book displays just one of the creative streams to which Sydney born, Peter Poidevin contributes. His output is prodigious as it is seemingly irrepressible. It has interspersed a varied and interesting working life, during which he worked with some of Australias best proponents in the hospitality industry. He managed and owned restaurants and clubs, then changed to taxi driving for twenty years on the Gold Coast in Queensland. These jobs brought him into contact with a great variety of people, but thats another story Through his acquaintance with musicians, he produced a CD of childrens songs which he had written. This CD, called Animals Oztralia has been widely distributed throughout the world and been very well received. The songs feature the unique native animals of Australia as well as Australian folklore. Though Peter is not able to write music or play a musical instrument, melodies and words come together in his mind, as he proceeds to write each song. These he then sings to the musician who writes and arranges the music for the song. Luckily he has access to some of the best musicians in Australia. Now retired and happily settled in Tasmania, he continues to write. His writings were brought to my attention with a view to have them illustrated. For me it has been a pleasure to contribute to his most interesting works.

Book You re Not Ugly To Look At

Download or read book You re Not Ugly To Look At written by Cara Bristol and published by Cara Bristol. This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s only the first twenty-seven years of marriage that are hard. Fact is funnier than fiction when romance author Cara Bristol gives us an inside peek into her own marriage and romance to “DH,” by sharing their private conversations. With snark and wit (and just a little spousal one-upmanship), they discuss the heavy issues of the day such as what to fix for dinner, the benefits of ice cream as a diet, which one of them got luckier when they got married, whether the president will get laid in White House on Inauguration Day, what they’ll do when they win the lottery, and squirrels. The author recalls unforgettable moments during their courtship, including how DH asked her to marry him (spoiler alert: it was the least romantic proposal in the history of the world) and the time he almost shot her. Their conversations are humorous and relatable to anyone who has ever had to live with a mate.

Book excerpt: On their second trip to Australia, Ruth and Harold met a couple during a Great Barrier Reef cruise. They and their children eventually became great friends. Lynette and Rob had lived in Washington, DC and had traveled all over the world, but they had never been to the Outback. So when the opportunity to explore it under the sponsorship of the highly respected National Trust appeared, they seized the chance and invited the Harbaughs along. The almost three week journey involved one widely traveled American couple, 14 reserved Aussies, and a driver named Dave. Together they explored deserted telegraph stations, hidden water holes, and compelling Outback attractions rarely seen by outsiders. The well educated Australians aboard were expecting a university scholar to conduct this 8,000 mile circle that included 5 of the 7 Australian States and 1 Territory, but they ended up with Dave, a mate whose favorites subjects were beer, fishing, and lame, politically incorrect jokes.

'Once a jolly swagman camped by a Billabong Under the shade of a Coolibah tree And he sang as he watched and waited till his Billy boiled You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me...' In 1894, twelve-year-old Matilda flees the city slums to find her unknown father and his farm. But drought grips the land, and the shearers are on strike. Her father has turned swaggie and he's wanted by the troopers. In front of his terrified daughter, he makes a stand against them, defiant to the last. 'You'll never catch me alive, said he...' Set against a backdrop of bushfire, flood, war and jubilation, this is the story of one girl's journey towards independence. It is also the story of others who had no vote and very little but their dreams. Drawing on the well-known poem by A.B. Paterson and from events rooted in actual history, this is the untold story behind Australia's early years as an emerging nation.
