Download or read book Women and the Curse written by Rodney L. Thomas and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-10-16 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book explores the matter of sexuality from the creation into the long history of Judaism and the church. In this book I highlight how many of the preconceived notions of how God perceives women and roles that He has for them are not the way most people that attend our churches perceive them. We have been dramatically effected by Greek thoughts regarding women and have also been dominated in our thinking by warfare mentality. The value of a person has been weighted by their ability to wage war. Even in this arena there are women who have proven their giftedness and their skill. I believe that if you carefully examine the matters set out in this book you will come to understand that so much of the evidence for the role of women in the church is based upon flimsy and biased evidence. If you open your heart and mind I believe this book can help you to see a new way forward in helping the church promote the spirit of unity and respect between human beings that God desires and has Himself.
Download or read book Written Forever written by Rukun Advani and published by Hachette India. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The journal Civil Lines was conceived in the 1990s to publish the best new Indian writing in English. The first issue (1994) soon garnered a cult readership with works by writers like Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Ramachandra Guha and I. Allan Sealy. Claiming the magazine?s irregularity itself as a guarantee of quality, Civil Lines continued issues erratically. It encouraged a new wave of Indian English writers and laid the ground for, among others, Ruchir Joshi, Siddhartha Deb, Suketu Mehta, Amitava Kumar, and Manjula Padmanabhan, who went on to become established writers Ramachandra Guha?s first brilliant essay, a five-finger exercise in literary anthropology which appeared in the inaugural issue, and Amitav Ghosh?s reflective essay on the Indian practice of the short story as well as a wonderfully fluent translation of one of Tagore?s most famous tales, Kshudhita Pashan (The Hunger of Stones). This volume, edited by Rukun Advani (one of the four original editors), brings together the finest essays, stories, and poems in the first five issues of Civil Lines, all of which are now out of print and hard to come by. For anyone interested in the finest recent Indian writing in English, this is the book to possess.

Contemporaries added to this edition include Beyoncé, Sandra Cisneros, James Comey, Drake, Louise Glück, LeBron James, Brett Kavanaugh, Lady Gaga, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Barack Obama, John Oliver, Nancy Pelosi, Vladimir Putin, Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, and David Foster Wallace. The volume also reflects path-breaking recent research resulting in the updating of quotations from the first edition with more accurate wording or attribution. It has also incorporated noncontemporary quotations that have become relevant to the present day. In addition, The New Yale Book of Quotations reveals the striking fact that women originated many familiar quotations, yet their roles have been forgotten and their verbal inventions have often been credited to prominent men instead. This book’s quotations, annotations, extensive cross-references, and large keyword index will satisfy both the reader who seeks specific information and the curious browser who appreciates an amble through entertaining pages.
Download or read book Days of Glory written by Larry J. Daniel and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2006-09-01 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A potent fighting force that changed the course of the Civil War, the Army of the Cumberland was the North's second-most-powerful army, surpassed in size only by the Army of the Potomac. The Cumberland army engaged the enemy across five times more territory with one-third to one-half fewer men than the Army of the Potomac, and yet its achievements in the western theater rivaled those of the larger eastern army. In Days of Glory, Larry J. Daniel brings his analytic and descriptive skills to bear on the Cumberlanders as he explores the dynamics of discord, political infighting, and feeble leadership that stymied the army in achieving its full potential. Making extensive use of thousands of letters and diaries, Daniel creates an epic portrayal of the developing Cumberland army, from untrained volunteers to hardened soldiers united in their hatred of the Confederates.
