Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A quote says “eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables keeps you away from diseases”. In fact, there is a need to consume various fruits and vegetables to fulfill the quote so that the body gets sufficient bioactive compounds, quantitatively low and qualitatively diverse. However, it is not easy to differentiate fruits from vegetables. Moreover, vegetables and fruits are also traditionally believed to cure various diseases. How will consumers manage safe combinations? Imagine when the cocktail of bioacatives are antagonistic, what would be the consequences of such consumptions? Hence, appropriate understanding of the uses, types of components in each kind of fruit or vegetable, parts of the edible portions, etc. are critical for proper diet practices. In this book, descriptions of 50 types of vegetables consumed by people throughout Indonesia are given, including the folklores about the curing capacity or partially proven curing practices using fruits and vegetables, as well as regions of Indonesia where the products are abundantly distributed. The challenges in order to prove the folklores based on scientific data warrant very fertile research areas in functional foods as well as processing to optimize curing effects, and indeed to prove the quote scientifically. Therefore, this book is expected to give overviews and current updates on vegetable health benefits, ultimately vegetables which are daily consumed in Indonesia."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia is a fascinating archipelago of over 17,000 islands in Southeast Asia. With a population of over 270 million, it’s the fourth most populous country in the world, and is home to a diverse range of ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. Indonesia is also one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, with a rapidly developing tourism industry, and is a member of the G20. But despite its cultural and economic diversity, Indonesia is also a country of contrasts. While some parts of the country are modern and developed, others are still very much rural and traditional. Additionally, Indonesia faces a range of social, environmental, and political challenges, including poverty, corruption, deforestation, and natural disasters. So while Indonesia may seem like a dream destination for travelers, its complexities and contradictions make it a particularly interesting place to explore. As a tourist, there are many amazing things to discover in Indonesia, including the world-class beaches and surf breaks, crystal clear waters and coral reefs, stunning volcanoes and mountains, rich cultural heritage and ancient temples, bustling cities and vibrant nightlife, and delicious food and local markets. However, it’s also important to be aware of the challenges that the country faces, including the fact that Indonesia is particularly vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters, and has a complex political situation that is still evolving. With this in mind, it’s important for visitors to Indonesia to be respectful and responsible, and to take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enriching trip.

Book Rural household welfare in Papua New Guinea Food security and nutrition challenges

Download or read book Rural household welfare in Papua New Guinea Food security and nutrition challenges written by Schmidt, Emily and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papua New Guinea continues to encourage a policy focus on food and nutrition security. The PNG National Nutrition Policy (2016-2026) and Nutrition Strategic Action Plan (2018-2022) (NSAP) set a path to improve coordination, secure sufficient funding, and improve technical capacity of nutrition-focused pro gram implementation. As policy prioritizes improved nutrition outcomes, it is important to understand the cost that households face of securing a higher level of nutrition. Ensuring a healthy diet that meets nutrition standards is relatively expensive in PNG. The analysis presented in this paper, which uses detailed household food and non-food consumption data suggests that 4/5 of households in the survey sample live below the healthy diet poverty line (which sets a calorie threshold and defines healthy diet nutrition targets). That is, these households do not have the income available (or do not consume sufficient food and non-food goods) to meet their basic needs which includes securing a nutritious diet that meets food based die tary guidelines.

Hay addresses complex questions regarding cultural models, agency, and other relationships to conclude that the ethnomedical knowledge they use to cope with their illnesses ironically inhibits improvements in their health care.
