Download or read book Cytobiology of Human Prostate Cancer Cells and Its Clinical Applications written by Kenichiro Ishii and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-25 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of males diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) is increasing all over the world. Most patients with early-stage PCa can be treated with appropriate therapy, such as radical prostatectomy or irradiation. On the other hand, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the standard systemic therapy given to patients with advanced PCa. ADT induces temporary remission, but the majority of patients (approximately 60%) eventually progress to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), which is associated with a high mortality rate. Generally, well-differentiated PCa cells are androgen dependent, i.e., androgen receptor (AR) signalling regulates cell cycle and differentiation. The loss of AR signalling after ADT triggers androgen-independent outgrowth, generating poorly differentiated, uncontrollable PCa cells. Once PCa cells lose their sensitivity to ADT, effective therapies are limited. In the last few years, however, several new options for the treatment of CRPC have been approved, e.g., the CYP17 inhibitor, the AR antagonist, and the taxane. Despite this progress in the development of new drugs, there is a high medical need for optimizing the sequence and combination of approved drugs. Thus, the identification of predictive biomarkers may help in the context of personalized medicine to guide treatment decisions, improve clinical outcomes, and prevent unnecessary side effects. In this Special Issue Book, we focused on the cytobiology of human PCa cells and its clinical applications to develop a major step towards personalized medicine matched to the individual needs of patients with early-stage and advanced PCa and CRPC. We hope that this Special Issue Book attracts the attention of readers with expertise and interest in the cytobiology of PCa cells.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most influential and frequently cited pathology classic is now in its Fifth Edition, with thoroughly revised chapters and over 3,000 brand-new full-color illustrations. This two-volume work provides comprehensive, current information on the principles and techniques of cytopathology and the cytologic evaluation of benign and malignant disorders at every anatomic site. This edition provides greatly expanded coverage of the interpretation of aspirated cell samples. Innovations in the practice of cytopathology and data on molecular biology and cytogenetics have been incorporated into the organ system chapters. This edition also has a greater focus on avoiding diagnostic errors. A bound-in image bank DVD is included in this edition.
Download or read book Visible near Infrared Spectroscopy in Cytology Differentiation and Quantification Birthing written by Suhainah Sudik and published by Penerbit USM. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visible and near-infrared, known as VIS-NIR spectroscopy has emerged as a highly promising alternative to conventional laborious wet chemistry methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of samples. VIS-NIR spectroscopy has successfully been employed in the analysis of a wide variety of applications from food quality analysis to environmental monitoring, medical diagnosis and even in arts and archaeology. This book presents the state-of-the-art method for profiling cancerous cells using the VIS-NIR spectra between 400 nm and 1100 nm. What makes our book truly exceptional? The cell culture techniques, spectroscopic experimental setup and statistical methods are presented in detail, conveniently allowing readers to replicate the study. In this book, the study was specifically conducted on mouse skin fibroblast (L929), human cervix adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and human prostate carcinoma (DU145) cell lines. These cell selections are commonly used in cytotoxicity, anti-cancer, antiproliferative and diagnosis research. Whether you're a student specializing in cell studies or a researcher immersed in optical-based instrumentation and measurement techniques, this book is your essential companion for success.
Download or read book Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology of the Breast written by Gary Tse and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-29 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed update on all aspects of fine-needle aspiration cytology of breast lesions. It will serve as an up-to-date reference and atlas on new entities in breast pathology, including classic benign and malignant lesions, in accordance with current classification schemes and staging protocols. Emphasis is placed on description of characteristic diagnostic features as well as common cytological pitfalls. Correlation of cytology with histology is achieved through cyto-histological illustrations, enabling readers to gain a good understanding of the morphologic features of various lesions. Core-needle biopsy and fine-needle aspiration cytology are compared in depth, with attention to their relative strengths and weaknesses and indications. In addition, the impact of molecular classification of breast cancers on cytologic diagnosis is explored, and the use of molecular techniques and artificial intelligence in diagnostic cytology is discussed.

Book excerpt: Technological inventions allow us to identify molecular events that will effectively detect cancer earlier in biological specimens. This approach enables us to develop molecular biomarkers for detecting cancer early. It is believed that such a molecular marker approach enables the detection of the disease earlier.
