    Book Details:
  • Author : Greg Bersche
  • Publisher : Xulon Press
  • Release : 2012

  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book Christ in Wildness written by Greg Bersche and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the coal mine country of eastern Kentucky to the sidewalks of Los Angeles, the young men in our country speak, eat and play in many different ways. Boys noodling for catfish along the Mississippi Delta would receive disapproving stares from boys playing dodge ball against a brick townhouse in the Bronx of New York City. But there lies deep in the fiber of every young man a commonality placed there by the Creator Himself that only He can make sense of. It is a deep stirring and wonderment of all things wild and untamed. It is that stir within a boy that holds his stare into the red coals of a warm campfire and spawns anxious fear at the yelping of a coyote on a distant ridge. It is the common glue that bonds all boys to their ancient past and to one another. This innate wonder hardwired into every young man, we will call "wildness." It is this wildness component that can be used to drag boys away from their video games and internet sites to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: "The Cullman Democrat was established about 25 years after the first newspaper to publish in the town named for the famous German settler, John G. Cullman. While it came relatively late on the scene, its circulation soon grew to match that of the most successful Alabama weekly newspapers. The Democrat was first published by Major W.F. Palmer in June of 1901. Palmer sold the paper to R.L. and J.E. Griffin in 1902, but by the end of January of 1903, the paper was purchased by Joseph Robert Rosson. The Democrat remained in control of the Rosson family for man years after."--Publisher's description

Book Research Manual in Child Development

Download or read book Research Manual in Child Development written by Lorraine Nadelman and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2003-10-03 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique hands-on lab manual in child development provides great ideas and resources for teaching research courses involving child subjects. It includes projects in psychomotor/perceptual, cognitive, and social development. Projects are preceded by background essays on the history of that topic, related research, theoretical issues, and controversies. Each project has hypotheses to test, detailed procedures to follow, all stimuli, individual and group data sheets, empty tables, suggested statistics, discussion questions, and an updated bibliography. Special features of this second edition: *The introductory text portion details research considerations, including an introduction to psychological research, sections on developmental research, children as subjects, and general experimental research procedures. *The popular Infant Observation project has the student visit homes with babies for a semester and provides practice in observational data collection, reliability assessment, and report writing. *The cognitive development section includes two new subfields: Theory of Mind and Language--Children's Interpretation of the Word Big, in addition to classic studies of Piaget's spatial perspective-taking and attention and memory. The final chapter describes a suggested neuropsychological project. *The socialized child section includes a new study on sibling relationships as seen by the older or younger sibling, in addition to the earlier projects on self-esteem, sex identity, and cooperation-competition. The final section describes a suggested cross-cultural interview project.

Book The Gospel According to Flannery O Connor

Download or read book The Gospel According to Flannery O Connor written by Jordan Cofer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jordan Cofer examines the influence of the Bible upon Flannery O'Connor's fiction. While there are many studies exploring how her Catholicism affected her fiction, this book argues that O'Connor is heavily influenced by the Bible itself. Specifically, it explicates the largely undocumented ways in which she used the Bible as source material for her work. It also shows that, rhetorically, many of O'Connor's stories (and/or characters) are based upon biblical models. Furthermore, Cofer explains how O'Connor's stories engage their biblical analogues in unusual, unexpected, and sometimes grotesque ways, as her stories manage to convey essentially the same message as their biblical counterparts. Throughout O'Connor's work there are significant biblical allusions which have been neglected or previously undiscovered. This book acknowledges her biblical source material so readers can understand the impact it had on her fiction. Cofer argues that readers can better appreciate her work by examining how her stories are often grounded in specific biblical texts, which she similarly distorts, exaggerates, and subverts, in order to shock and teach readers. Simply put, O'Connor doesn't merely reference these biblical stories, she rewrites them.
