Book Cutting the Gordian Knot

Download or read book Cutting the Gordian Knot written by T N Hari and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cutting the Gordian Knot discusses India's quest for prosperity through job creation. The underlying pieces of this quest are complex and intertwined-an education system that has outlived its shelf life with misplaced aspiration for white-collared jobs. India got educated before it got skilled. Skilling along with micro-entrepreneurship needs to be rejuvenated. Rapid developments in technology are changing the nature of jobs and employment itself. We are living in truly interesting times. The country's youth bulge makes it one of the youngest nations in the world. A youthful demographic profile is necessary but not a sufficient condition for economic growth. It needs to be harnessed well. Some miscalculations and wrong moves could very easily transform a demographic dividend to a recipe for mass discontent. The country has a long way to go, and global disruptions due to rapidly changing technologies are creating hazards on the way. New ways will have to be found, and dominant narratives will have to be challenged. The book presents these views, data and insights with an intent to spark dialogue, awareness and, eventually, change.

Book Untying the Gordian Knot

Download or read book Untying the Gordian Knot written by Timothy E. Eastman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Untying the Gordian Knot: Process, Reality, and Context, Timothy E. Eastman proposes a new creative synthesis, the Logoi framework—which is radically inclusive and incorporates both actuality and potentiality—to show how the fundamental notions of process, logic, and relations, woven with triads of input-output-context and quantum logical distinctions, can resolve a baker’s dozen of age-old philosophic problems. Further, Eastman leverages a century of advances in quantum physics and the Relational Realism interpretation pioneered by Michael Epperson and Elias Zafiris and augmented by the independent research of Ruth Kastner and Hans Primas to resolve long-standing issues in understanding quantum physics. Adding to this, Eastman makes use of advances in information and complex systems, semiotics, and process philosophy to show how multiple levels of context, combined with relations—including potential relations—both local and local-global, can provide a grounding for causation, emergence, and physical law. Finally, the Logoi framework goes beyond standard ways of knowing—that of context independence (science) and context focus (arts, humanities)—to demonstrate the inevitable role of ultimate context (meaning, spiritual dimension) as part of a transformative ecological vision, which is urgently needed in these times of human and environmental crises.

She is convinced that an ancient battle between Iron Age tribes took place here and is determined to prove her theory, but as archaeologists begin to unearth the truth, they are faced with some unexpected surprises. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Jack Harrington is making discoveries of his own and finds himself juggling personal and professional commitments. His organisation is still recovering from recent events in the Mediterranean and is loathed to be drawn into another deadly conflict, but like it or not, there are unresolved issues that cannot be avoided. The Phoenix Legion is about to implement the final phase of its master plan and this time Schiffer is convinced that nothing can stop him from realising his goal. With the past merging with the present, the elements of a deadly conclusion are finally coming together. Will history repeat itself or can another worldwide catastrophe be avoided? Book The Gordian Knot

Download or read book The Gordian Knot written by W. Russell Neuman and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1999-07-26 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Veterans of the high-definition TV wars of the 1980s, the authors, social scientists as well as technologists, came to see themselves as "chroniclers and students of an intriguing and serious techno-economic conflict." Why, they asked, did so few understand the rules of the game? In a broad account accessible to generalist and specialist alike, they address the current national debate about the development of a national information infrastructure, locating the debate in a broad historical narrative that illuminates how we got here and where we may be going, and outlining a bold vision of an open communications infrastructure that will cut through the political gridlock that threatens this "information highway."Technical change the authors argue is creating a new paradigm that fits neither the free market nor regulatory control models currently in play. They detail what is wrong with the political process of the national information infrastructure policy-making and assess how different media systems (telecommunications, radio, television broadcasting,) were originally established, spelling out the technological assumptions and organizational interests on which they were based and showing why the old policy models are now breaking down. The new digital networks are not analogous to railways and highways or their electronic forebears in telephony and broadcasting; they are inherently unfriendly to centralized control of any sort, so the old traditions of common carriage and public trustee regulation and regulatory gamesmanship no longer apply. The authors' technological and historical analysis leads logically toward a policy proposal for a reformed regulatory structure that builds and protects meaningful competition, but that abandons its role as arbiter of tariffs and definer of public service and public interest.

Book excerpt: "A departure at right angles to thinking in the modern Western world. An important, original work, that should get the widest possible hearing" (Iain McGilchrist, author of The Master and his Emissary) Middle Way Philosophy is not about compromise, but about the avoidance of dogma and the integration of conflicting assumptions. To rely on experience as our guide, we need to avoid the interpretation of experience through unnecessary dogmas. Drawing on a range of influences in Buddhist practice, Western philosophy and psychology, Middle Way Philosophy questions alike the assumptions of scientific naturalism, religious revelation and political absolutism, trying to separate what addresses experience in these doctrines from what is merely assumed. This Omnibus edition of Middle Way Philosophy includes all four of the volumes previously published separately: 1. The Path of Objectivity, 2. The Integration of Desire, 3. The Integration of Meaning, and 4. The Integration of Belief.

Book Cutting the Gordian Knot Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cutting the Gordian Knot Classic Reprint written by Percy Daniels and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cutting the Gordian Knot Cutting the Gordian Knot is a blending of two proposed articles each of which is abbreviated, and they are united for lack of time, that they may reach, during the coming campaign, those who may have to chose this year between Democracy and Despotism. The arguments in support of A Graduated Property Tax as a defensive measure against the advance of imperialism, are the concluding arguments in the series which I began as a Republican in 1888. The discussion of the political situation in Kansas and of some events in our recent history, is a warning torpedo placed on the Populist track by a friendly hand. The hosts of Plutocracy are already in the field. Their three branches of service are all actively at work on their respective lines of Intimidation, Deception and Purchase. The People's party columns are in motion to meet them. Forward! is the word sent along the line. Forward! for the rescue of the Republic. Forward! as promised at Omaha; that we "would never cease to move Forward till every wrong is righted." Politics is a form of warfare. Its rational armament is the sword of the ballot.
