Download or read book Individuals Income under Double Taxation Conventions A Brazilian Approach written by Daniel Vitor Bellan and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2010-09-03 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tax conventions (or tax treaties) provide a means of settling on a uniform basis the most common problems that arise in the field of international double taxation. Brazil has over two dozen such conventions in force. This number might seem small but the country will inevitably enter into more such treaties given its economic growth, foreign investments and economic globalization in general. Two highly practical aspects form the basis of the book’s analysis: interpretation and qualification under international tax law; and Brazil’s income tax on individuals. The author employs those starting points to tackle such thorny questions as: Is there coherence in the legal regime that is applicable to individuals’ income in double taxation treaties? Is this “system” for individuals consistent? Is it in accordance with Brazilian constitutional principles? Professionals dealing with Brazil’s tax regime will quickly find this work instructive, insightful and thought-provoking.

Download or read book Tax and Robotics written by Álvaro Falcón Pulido and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are standing on the threshold of the robotic era, the fourth industrial revolution. The undeniable impact and consequences of robotics are already raising economic concerns, such as the loss of income tax revenue as robots gradually replace human workers, as well as legal doubts regarding the possible taxation of robots or their owners. Financial law must adapt to this new reality by answering several crucial questions. Should robots pay taxes? Can they? Do they have the ability to pay? Can they be considered entrepreneurs for VAT purposes? These are just some of the many issues that Dr. Álvaro Falcón Pulido lucidly and insightfully addresses in this fascinating new monographic work, which includes an exhaustive bibliography on the subject.
Download or read book Playing with the Book written by Hannah Field and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beautifully illustrated exploration of how Victorian novelty picture books reshape the ways children read and interact with texts The Victorian era saw an explosion of novelty picture books with flaps to lift and tabs to pull, pages that could fold out, pop-up scenes, and even mechanical toys mounted on pages. Analyzing books for young children published between 1835 and 1914, Playing with the Book studies how these elaborately designed works raise questions not just about what books should look like but also about what reading is, particularly in relation to children’s literature and child readers. Novelty books promised (or threatened) to make reading a physical as well as intellectual activity, requiring the child to pull a tab or lift a flap to continue the story. These books changed the relationship between pictures, words, and format in both productive and troubling ways. Hannah Field considers these aspects of children’s reading through case studies of different formats of novelty and movable books and intensive examination of editions that have survived from the nineteenth century. She discovers that children ripped, tore, and colored in their novelty books—despite these books’ explicit instructions against such behaviors. Richly illustrated with images of these ingenious constructions, Playing with the Book argues that novelty books construct a process of reading that involves touch as well as sight, thus reconfiguring our understanding of the phenomenology of reading.

Download or read book Guide to Community Customs Legislation written by Michael Lux and published by Emile Bruylant. This book was released on 2002 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The customs union is an essential element of the European Community's single market with its four basic freedoms: free circulation of goods, persons, services and capital. This single market with currently 370 million consumers is the largest in the industrialised world. The single market with no internal barriers and common rules for trade with the outside world is the catalyst for economic integration within the Community as well as for the liberalisation and promotion of world trade. Customs policy and legislation are one of the cornerstones of the single market, as well as the Community's trade, development and agricultural policy. They are furthermore linked to the collection of VAT and excise duties at importation and the relief from such taxes at exportation. Globalisation of international trade, e-commerce and the forthcoming enlargement of the Community increase the need for information on customs rules. This book contains 19 well-structured chapters with summaries, illustrative examples, law tables, rulings of the European Courts, case studies, as well as a glossary of customs terms so that it can be used both as a study tool and as a reference book for all aspects of customs legislation. It is an indispensable and reliable tool for all who require clear, comprehensive and up to date information in this field, and includes a wealth of detail for all those involved in international trade issues, such as importers and exporters, customs agents, customs officials, lawyers, consultants and trade federations.

Download or read book Possessing the Land written by Stalls and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Possessing the Land is the first comprehensive treatment of Christian Aragon's expansion under Alfonso I (1104-1134) into a major arena of medieval Christian/Islamic contact: the Islamic Ebro River march of Aragon. Based on an extensive examination of primary and secondary sources, the book's insights into the social and political processes of Christian settlement and the fate of post-conquest Islam are of particular importance. Its conclusions that the freeholding of land characterized the Ebro's Christian settlement, and not heavy seignorialization, and that Christian settlement relied on the Muslim infrastructure, challenge significantly the neo-Marxist thesis of the “feudalization” of twelfth-century Christian Iberian society and the corresponding Christian break with Iberia's Islamic Past. This book constitutes a fundamental work in Iberian frontier studies.
