Book The Cross Cultural Coaching Kaleidoscope

Download or read book The Cross Cultural Coaching Kaleidoscope written by Jennifer Plaister-Ten and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaching has emerged from a Western, largely Anglo-American, perspective that may not be appropriate across cultures, given the multi-cultural nature of societies and workplaces today and the working practice of virtual teams. This has repercussions for the coaching profession. There is little knowledge about the constituent factors of cross-cultural coaching; or the attitudes, skills and knowledge required to practice in a global market. Therefore, there is little sharing of best practice that in turn has an impact upon coaching competency. This book shows a unique approach to describing the impact of culture in the coaching relationship. It demonstrates how culture can affect our perceptions, thoughts and emotions, influence our choices and impact our behaviour. It identifies the need for the coach to become adept at raising awareness of cultural influences and to reframe psychological constructs often thought to have universal meaning; such as responsibility.

Book American Culture in Peril

Download or read book American Culture in Peril written by Charles W. Dunn and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirty years ago, Ronald Reagan rode a wave of patriotism to the White House by calling for a return to what he considered to be traditional American values--personal liberty, free markets, and limited government. After the cultural struggles and generational clashes of the 1960s and 70s, it appeared that many Americans were eager to abide by Reagan's set of core American principles. Yet, despite Reagan's continuing popularity, modern America remains widely perceived as a nation weakened by its divisions. While debates over cultural values have been common throughout the country's history, they seem particularly vitriolic today. Some argue that these differences have resulted in a perpetually gridlocked government caught between left and right, red states and blue. Since the American Founding, commonly shared cultural values have been considered to be the glue that would bind the nation's citizens together. However, how do we identify, define and interpret the foundations of American culture in a profoundly divided, pluralistic country? In American Culture in Peril, Charles W. Dunn assembles top scholars and public intellectuals to examine Reagan's impact on American culture in the twenty-first century. The contributors assess topics vital to our conversations about American culture and society, including changing views of the family, the impact of popular culture, and the evolving relationship between religion, communities, and the state. Others investigate modern liberalism and the possibilities of reclaiming a renewed conservatism today. American Culture in Peril illuminates Reagan's powerful legacy and investigates whether his traditional view of American culture can successfully compete in postmodern America. Book Colonial Legacies in Chicana o Literature and Culture

Download or read book Colonial Legacies in Chicana o Literature and Culture written by Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonial Legacies in Chicana/o Literature and Culture exposes the ways in which colonialism is expressed in the literary and cultural production of the U.S. Southwest, a region that has experienced at least two distinct colonial periods since the sixteenth century. Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez traces how Spanish colonial texts reflect the motivation for colonial domination. She argues that layers of U.S. colonialism complicate how Chicana/o literary scholars think about Chicana/o literary and cultural production. She brings into view the experiences of Chicana/o communities that have long-standing ties to the U.S. Southwest but whose cultural heritage is tied through colonialism to multiple nations, including Spain, Mexico, and the United States. While the legacies of Chicana/o literature simultaneously uphold and challenge colonial constructs, the metaphor of the kaleidoscope makes visible the rupturing of these colonial fragments via political and social urgencies. This book challenges readers to consider the possibilities of shifting our perspectives to reflect on stories told and untold and to advocate for the inclusion of fragmented and peripheral pieces within the kaleidoscope for more complex understandings of individual and collective subjectivities. This book is intended for readers interested in how colonial legacies are performed in the U.S. Southwest, particularly in the context of New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Readers will relate to the book’s personal narrative thread that provides a path to understanding fragmented identities.

Book American Cinema and Cultural Diplomacy

Download or read book American Cinema and Cultural Diplomacy written by Thomas J. Cobb and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-25 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contends that Hollywood films help illuminate the incongruities of various periods in American diplomacy. From the war film Bataan to the Revisionist Western The Wild Bunch, cinema has long reflected US foreign policy’s divisiveness both directly and allegorically. Beginning with the 1990s presidential drama The American President and concluding with Joker’s allegorical treatment of the Trump era, this book posits that the paradigms for political reflection are shifting in American film, from explicit subtexts surrounding US statecraft to covert representations of diplomatic disarray. It further argues that the International Relations theorist Walter Mead’s concept of a US polity dominated by contesting beliefs, or a ‘kaleidoscope’, permeates these changing paradigms. This synergy reveals a cultural milieu where foreign policy fissures are increasingly encoded by cinematic representation. The interdisciplinarity of this focus renders this book pertinent reading for scholars and students of American Studies, Film Studies and International Relations, along with those generally interested in Hollywood filmmakers and foreign policy.

Book Cultural Kaleidoscope

Download or read book Cultural Kaleidoscope written by Rayan Musk and published by . This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The figurative term "Social Kaleidoscope" distinctively catches the embodiment of a general public enhanced by variety and driven by inclusivity. Similarly as a kaleidoscope changes a horde of bright pieces into an amicable and steadily evolving design, social variety shapes our worldwide local area into a dynamic embroidery of encounters, customs, and points of view. Variety is the mosaic of contrasts that characterizes us as people and by and large as a general public. It envelops a rich exhibit of aspects, including race, identity, orientation, religion, language, financial status, and then some. A Social Kaleidoscope recognizes and commends this variety, remembering it as a wellspring of solidarity, versatility, and development. Inclusivity, the corresponding feature of the Social Kaleidoscope, goes past simple acknowledgment of variety. It includes encouraging a climate where each individual feels esteemed, regarded, and engaged, no matter what their experience or character. Inclusivity is the obligation to destroying hindrances, advancing equivalent open doors, and enhancing voices that might have generally been underestimated or unheard. The Social Kaleidoscope flourishes in conditions where individuals embrace the magnificence of contrasts and effectively look to comprehend and gain from each other. It is a powerful exchange of societies, customs, and thoughts that continually develops, making a rich embroidery of shared encounters. The liveliness of this multicolored culture lies in the crossing points and communications between different components, cultivating imagination, development, and a significant feeling of having a place. A fundamental part of the Social Kaleidoscope is the acknowledgment that each social section contributes a one of a kind shade to the general structure. By embracing variety and inclusivity, social orders can take advantage of an abundance of viewpoints that fuel inventiveness and critical thinking. It is through the cooperative mixing of these social tints that we gain a more complete comprehension of the world and its difficulties. Besides, a Social Kaleidoscope develops sympathy and encourages a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of mankind. It challenges generalizations, destroys biases, and assembles spans between individuals from different backgrounds. In this comprehensive space, people are not characterized by particular parts of their personality but rather are recognized for the diverse creatures they are. As we explore an inexorably interconnected worldwide scene, the idea of a Social Kaleidoscope turns out to be more relevant than any time in recent memory. It is a source of inspiration for people, networks, and foundations to focus on variety, value, and consideration. By turning the focal point of our aggregate mindfulness through the Social Kaleidoscope, we can make a reality where contrasts are endured as well as celebrated, and where inclusivity turns into the core value for an amicable and interconnected future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Harry Redner, the phrase “beyond civilization” refers to the new and unprecedented condition the world is now entering—specifically, the condition commonly known as globalization. Redner approaches globalization from the perspective of history and seeks to interpret it in relation to previous key stages of human development. His account begins with the Axial Age (700–300 BC) and proceeds through Modernity (after AD 1500) to the present global condition. What is globalization doing to civilization? In answering this question, Redner studies the role played by capitalism, the state, science and technology. He aims to show that they have had a catalytic impact on civilization through their reductive effect on society, culture, and individualism. However, Redner is not content to diagnose the ills of civilization; he also suggests how they might be ameliorated by cultural conservation. Above all, it is to the problem of decline in the higher forms of literacy that he addresses himself, for it is on the culture of the book that previous civilizations were founded. This study will be of interest to sociologists, historians, and social and political theorists. Its style makes it accessible also to general readers, interested in civilization past, present, and future.
