Book Spanish Short Stories

Download or read book Spanish Short Stories written by Gudie Lawaetz and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 1992-07-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of short stories contains more diverse and lively writing from the Spanish-speaking world. Again much of it is from Latin America, Carlos Fuentes being Mexican, Norberto Fuentes Cuban, and the other writers having their roots in Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia and the Argentine. Only Ana Maria Matute is a native of Spain. This highly entertaining selection of stories, together with a chapter from Mario Vargas Llosa’s novel ‘Conversation in the Cathedral’, explores stylistic contrasts and gives an insight into the cultural and social milieu of the Spanish-speaking world. With notes on unusual Spanish words and phrases, it will be of great value to English students of the language as well as a helpful companion to Spanish-speaking students of English.

Download or read book Celebrating Cuentos written by Jamie Campbell Naidoo and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-11-18 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More effectively meet the diverse literacy needs of the growing Latino population by learning how to evaluate and select quality Latino children's literature. Latinos are the fastest growing and largest ethnic minority in the United States. The number of Latino children is at a historic high. As a result, librarians and teachers in the United States must know how to meet the informational, cultural, and traditional literacy needs of this student demographic group. An ideal way to overcome this challenge is by providing culturally accurate and authentic children's literature that represents the diversity of the Latino cultures. Much more than simply a topical bibliography, this book details both historical and current practices in educating Latino children; explains why having quality Latino children's literature in classrooms and libraries is necessary for the ethnic identity development of Latino children; and offers a historical overview of Latino children's literature in America. Web resources of interest to educators working with Latino children are also included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cuentos Hispanoamericanos: With Grammar Reviews And Exercises Another objection might be raised because no English Spanish vocabulary has been included for the translation exercises. The omission of such a vocabulary has been a sin of commission. The sentenoes for such exercises have been very careqy prepared. All the information that is necessary will be found in the text for the day. The advantage is that the student must perforce prepare his lesson well and really make his own expressions or words in Spanish that would other wise slip his memory, after he had jotted them down from the vocabulary. The following plan has been found to work out very satis factorily by the editor and is given here as a suggestion. Class work is divided into board work and conversation. As soon as the class is ready, some ten students are sent to the board with the following exercises: themes, translations, idiomatic expressions, and verbs. Each theme topic is assigned to two students, thus anording work for six. The translation exercise may be divided between two students. With the other two exercises one has enough work for ten students. The ideal arrangement would be to send one - half of the class to the board.
